I'm Just a Nobody, Why Are You Calling Me a God?!

Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Registration

Time flew by, and the awakening wave following the meteor's impact continued to spread across different regions. A month had passed, and discussions about awakened abilities had become part of daily conversations. The Guardian Squad's registration centers were bustling with activity.

In the end, Wang Yanfie decided to report his ability. It wasn't that he fully trusted the Smart Brain, but he realized that if he delayed too long, his family and friends would start questioning him. To avoid unnecessary trouble, he chose to go voluntarily.

On the day of registration, the Guardian Squad hall was crowded. Awakened individuals lined up, waiting for their turn, an air of excitement and nervous anticipation filling the space. Wang Yanfie stood in line, curiously eyeing the massive machine ahead.

This was the "Ability Detection Device," a newly introduced machine by the Smart Brain, said to be capable of precisely analyzing an individual's energy waves and ability type.

When it was finally his turn, Wang Yanfie stepped forward. The screen in front of him lit up, prompting him to place his hands on the scanning area. The machine emitted a faint humming sound before displaying a set of data and a brief analysis report.

"Awakened ID: D72035."

"Ability Type: Physique Enhancement (Defense)."

"Additional Notes: The individual's energy possesses hardening and impact absorption properties. A name for the ability is recommended."

The staff member glanced at the screen and asked, "Do you have a name for your ability? If not, we can use the default identification number."

Wang Yanfie thought for a moment before answering, "Jade Vein Strength. Let's go with that."

The staff recorded the name in the system before saying, "Your ability has been successfully registered. If it evolves or changes in the future, please return to update your records."

"Understood." Wang Yanfie nodded before walking out of the Guardian Squad center, feeling an unexpected sense of relief.

Like Wang Yanfie, Lin Yi also went to register. When he stepped up to the ability detection machine, the scanner ran multiple scans before displaying the result:

"Ordinary individual. No energy fluctuations detected."

The staff barely glanced at the screen before jotting down, "Ordinary. No energy detected. Registration complete."

Lin Yi nodded and calmly walked out of the center, showing no signs of disappointment. This result was exactly what he had anticipated.

In reality, Lin Yi's ability was different from other awakeners. He didn't exhibit any visible energy fluctuations but instead possessed a far more subtle and enigmatic ability—future traversal. This kind of ability couldn't be detected by standard scanning devices, and thus, he was classified as an ordinary person.

He wasn't bothered by this classification. In fact, keeping his ability hidden might be beneficial.

After completing the registration, Wang Yanfie immediately contacted Lin Yi, and the two met up at their usual spot in the street food market.

"How was it? Was it a hassle?" Lin Yi asked casually while sipping a cup of soy milk.

Wang Yanfie took a bite of his fried dough stick and replied nonchalantly, "Not too bad. The detection machine quickly confirmed my ability—hardening physique, officially categorized as defensive. I named it 'Jade Vein Strength.' Sounds cool, right?"

"Jade Vein Strength?" Lin Yi chuckled. "Definitely better than something generic like 'Iron Body.'"

"Exactly," Wang Yanfie smirked. "What about you? Any results?"

"The machine classified me as ordinary," Lin Yi replied calmly. "It couldn't detect anything."

Wang Yanfie blinked in surprise. "Wait… it couldn't detect anything? But you…" He paused mid-sentence before correcting himself, "Well, I guess that's convenient. Ordinary status means fewer complications."

Lin Yi smiled faintly without elaborating. "For most people, awakening is still rare. Not awakening is completely normal."

Wang Yanfie studied Lin Yi for a moment before nodding. "You're taking this pretty well. Being ordinary isn't bad—keeps life simple and drama-free."

Lin Yi took another sip of his soy milk, his eyes calm. He didn't explain further, nor did he intend to. Keeping his ability a secret was the safest choice.

After a short silence, Lin Yi suddenly spoke in a low voice, "By the way, Yanfie, we need to set up a contingency plan."

"A contingency plan?" Wang Yanfie raised an eyebrow.

Lin Yi leaned in slightly, his tone serious. "Write down your training method. If I manage to travel to the future again, I'll bring it back to you. There's a chance it could help you push your ability beyond its current limits."

Wang Yanfie's eyes widened. "You really think that'll work?"

Lin Yi shrugged, his expression relaxed but his gaze firm. "No harm in trying. If my ability can't be detected through conventional means, then it might be more unique than we think. I'll figure it out eventually. For now, you just focus on your own training."

After a brief moment of contemplation, Wang Yanfie broke into a grin. "Alright, got it. I'll document everything. Next time you show up in the future, take it with you."

"Deal." Lin Yi stood up and patted Wang Yanfie's shoulder. "Keep training. 'Jade Vein Strength' has more potential than you realize."

That night, Lin Yi returned home, washed up, and went to bed as usual.

But the moment he opened his eyes again, he found himself back in that familiar wasteland.

The sky remained a murky gray. Ruined buildings and a barren landscape stretched before him, exuding an eerie stillness. The faint scent of decay lingered in the air, and the surroundings were deathly silent.

Lin Yi rubbed his temples and glanced at the rusted sign near his feet. As expected, it still read:

"Welcome to District Three of the Eastern Federation."

"So, I'm back…" he muttered, recalling his previous experience.

Crouching down, he reached for the book he had hidden earlier. To his surprise, the book was now noticeably thicker, as if new content had been added since he last saw it.

"The book changed? Could it be… Yanfie's training manual?" Lin Yi's eyes lit up with excitement, though a trace of confusion remained.

He still didn't fully understand the mechanics of his ability—whether he traveled to the future at set intervals or triggered it under specific conditions. But now wasn't the time to dwell on that. Time was running against him.

The familiar countdown timer appeared on his wristband:

1:59:45

"Only two hours again…" Lin Yi wasted no time. He immediately sat down, flipping through the book with intense focus.

The pages were densely filled with text and diagrams, all detailing Jade Vein Strength's training methods. Every section meticulously outlined the energy flow, breathing techniques, and optimal movements.

"This really is his training method," Lin Yi murmured, excitement rising. But he had no time to celebrate—he needed to memorize every single word before time ran out.

As he continued reading, he came across a key insight:

"The first stage of Jade Vein Strength enhances skin toughness, providing resistance against standard attacks. The second stage strengthens bones, increasing durability and impact resistance. The third stage fortifies internal organs, offering full-body defense."

"So this technique can actually reinforce the bones and organs too…" Lin Yi muttered, flipping through the pages even faster. The deeper he read, the more he realized how valuable this training method was.

The timer continued to tick down.

0:45:32

"I need to hurry…" Lin Yi forced himself to absorb the information as quickly as possible, memorizing not just the text but also the detailed illustrations of the energy flow pathways.

By the time the countdown hit the final ten minutes, he had reached the last page. He closed the book, took a deep breath, and ran through everything in his mind to ensure he hadn't missed any details.

"I've got it all," he exhaled, but an unshakable urgency remained in his chest.

He gazed at the desolate wasteland around him and made a silent vow.

"This time, I'll bring the training method back. Yanfie deserves a chance to push his ability to the next level."

As the countdown reached zero, the familiar white light enveloped his vision.

And just like that, he was returning to the present.
