I'm Just a Nobody, Why Are You Calling Me a God?!

Chapter 9: Chapter 9: Ten Thousand Points of Damage

Wang Yanfie was fully prepared. The energy within him surged, and a layer of pale green jade-like radiance spread across his chest. His entire body hardened into a texture resembling solid stone.

"Come on!" he shouted, standing firmly in place.

The blue-white dragon-shaped energy projection shot forward, colliding with his chest with a dull thud. Energy rippled outward, illuminating the entire living room with a radiant glow, followed by a soft boom.

Wang Yanfie staggered two steps backward but quickly regained his footing. Looking down at his chest, he found himself unscathed, except for a faint scorch mark on his clothes where the shockwave had brushed against them.

"Whoa! That's actually pretty strong!" Wang Yanfie exclaimed in amazement. "The power isn't small, but my defense completely held up."

"Are you really okay?" Xu Jiayin asked anxiously, stepping forward to check on him.

"Of course, I'm fine." Wang Yanfie patted his chest with a grin. "Your attack was definitely powerful—if it had been a normal person, they'd have been sent flying. But I have a hardened physique, so this level of impact isn't enough to take me down."

"It looks like her ability relies primarily on impact force and destructive capability," Lin Yi mused. "But Jiayin, with more practice, your power should become even stronger."

Hearing Lin Yi's praise, Xu Jiayin's cheeks flushed slightly. She glanced at her fingers and couldn't help but smile. "Really? I thought I was just being clumsy…"

"Clumsy?" Lin Yi shook his head gently, his tone warm yet firm. "Not at all. Your attack was already impressive. If you keep training, you'll definitely become a top-tier ability user."

A warmth spread in Xu Jiayin's heart as she heard his encouragement. Looking up, she hesitated for a moment before tiptoeing and planting a soft kiss on Lin Yi's cheek, her voice tinged with shyness. "Thank you, Lin Yi."

Lin Yi froze for a second, then chuckled and ruffled her hair. "Keep going. I believe in you."

On the side, Wang Yanfie, witnessing their affectionate moment, felt his mouth twitch as he was bombarded by the overwhelming air of romance.

"I swear…" He rubbed his nose, his tone full of resignation. "Can you guys take this somewhere else? A single guy like me can't handle this level of public affection."

Xu Jiayin blushed even deeper, while Lin Yi remained unfazed, looking at Wang Yanfie with a calm expression. "Maybe if you awakened a flashy ability, you'd catch someone's attention too."

"Yeah, right." Wang Yanfie waved his hand dismissively and stood up, heading for the door. "You two carry on. I won't intrude. Suddenly, I feel like single people should maintain their dignity. I'm going for a walk to clear my head."

With that, he shut the door behind him, letting out a dramatic sigh. "Sigh, awakening an ability is useless… I still have to endure this public display of affection. Life is truly tough."

As the door closed, Xu Jiayin couldn't help but cover her mouth and giggle. "Yanfie is really adorable."

Lin Yi sighed, shaking his head affectionately. "He just likes to act tough, but he's more reliable than anyone. Alright, let's keep testing your ability."

After leaving Xu Jiayin's home, Wang Yanfie found a small roadside restaurant and sat down for dinner. He ordered two dishes and scrolled through his wristband messages while eating.

Midway through his meal, his wristband vibrated. He glanced down—it was a message from his family group chat, "Warm Home Family".

Warm Haven (Dad):

"Yanfie, there's a lot of talk about the meteor recently. I've heard many people are awakening abilities. Anything unusual on your end?"

Xiaoxiao's Little Star (Sister Wang Xiaoxiao):

"Brother, my classmates said some people in District Seven have awakened abilities! You didn't awaken too, did you? If you did, tell me!"

Queen Mother (Mom):

"Xiaoxiao, stop pestering your brother. He's busy. But Yanfie, I have news—this morning, I discovered I awakened an ability! I can materialize a stick! It doesn't seem that special, but at least I've kept up with the times."

Xiaoxiao's Little Star (Sister):

"Mom?! You awakened too?! That's so cool! When will I awaken? The whole family has abilities—I can't be left behind!"

Wang Yanfie stared at the chat, his mouth twitching as he typed:

Flying Swallow (Wang Yanfie):

"Mom, you awakened too? Looks like the meteor had quite an impact. I've also awakened—hardened defense. I tested it today, and it works pretty well."

The group chat immediately exploded.

Warm Haven (Dad):

"Son, if you've awakened, you should go register with the Smart Brain immediately. The officials are collecting data. The sooner you register, the more convenient things will be later."

Queen Mother (Mom):

"Yes, your dad is right. Awakening an ability is serious business. Go register—it'll give us peace of mind. We're heading there tonight; you should do the same."

Xiaoxiao's Little Star (Sister):

"Brother, when I awaken, you have to train with me!"

As he read the messages, the warning from the Black Box resurfaced in Wang Yanfie's mind—"Do not tell the Smart Brain."

He hesitated for a moment before typing:

Flying Swallow (Wang Yanfie):

"Got it. I'll finish eating and then go register. No need to worry."

Warm Haven (Dad):

"Good. Let us know once you're done."

After responding, Wang Yanfie set down his wristband and resumed his meal, a knot of uncertainty forming in his mind.

"Register? The Black Box warned against trusting the Smart Brain. Reporting this so easily… isn't it risky? But if I don't, my parents will keep asking questions."

Gritting his teeth, he made a decision:

"I'll just tell them I registered once I get home. For now, I need to keep this quiet. I need more time to observe the Smart Brain."

After finishing his meal, he paid the bill and began his walk home. The night sky stretched above him, his thoughts tangled in uncertainty.

Stepping into his home, Wang Yanfie casually tossed his jacket over a chair and flopped onto the sofa, letting out a long sigh. He absentmindedly scrolled through his class group chat—still as lively as ever.

One familiar avatar caught his attention—it was a chubby classmate. His username had changed from "Meat Egg Chef" to "Little Fire Dragon".

Curious, Wang Yanfie clicked on the chat history.

Little Fire Dragon:

"My hand can now produce fire! It's not big, but it can burn paper and light candles! Haha! Call me Fire Dragon Knight!"

Humanities Champion:

"You've been bragging all day."

Little Fire Dragon:

"Check this out!" (Attached video)

The video played—Little Fire Dragon held out his palm and snapped his fingers. A small orange flame flickered to life at his fingertips. Grinning, he looked into the camera. "Don't be jealous! Awakening is only for the chosen ones!"

Athletics Ace:

"Damn, Fatty, that's actually cool. I'm borrowing your fire next time."

Wang Yanfie smirked at the chat. He wasn't surprised by his classmate's enthusiasm, but deep inside, he felt a strange shift. Awakening abilities… it was already beginning to change people's lives.

"So this is what it feels like to be one of the 'chosen' ones." He muttered to himself, closing his wristband.

Leaning back, he turned on the TV, his mind unable to shake off the weight of everything that had happened.
