Chapter 218: Chapter 13: Kisara Tendo Vigilance

A week passed in the blink of an eye.

Early in the morning, a courier on a bicycle made his way through an old neighborhood in the outer district, delivering mail.

He stopped in front of a church that looked out of place in the area and pulled a letter from his bag.

After confirming the address and the crookedly carved words "This Article" on the church door, he left the envelope at the entrance.

He knocked on the door and left.

Soon, the church door opened, and a small head peeked out.

It was Shiraishi Hina.

Compared to the pale, malnourished girl she'd been a week ago, she now looked much cleaner and more energetic.

However, her scarlet eyes were still striking, which was why she hadn't wanted to show herself to the courier.

Cursed Children needed to learn to control the Gastrea factor in their bodies, suppressing it to an inactive state to hide their red eyes.

Though Shiraishi Hina had been learning how to control her Gastrea factor from Enju Aihara, mastering it in just a week was no easy feat.

"It's finally here."

Holding the letter, Shiraishi Hina couldn't quite read the words on it, but she already knew what was inside.

A Promoter's license.

To be precise, it was Nia Honjo's Promoter license and her own Initiator license.

A week ago, Nia had planned to take Nibelcole to register as an Initiator.

But after encountering Shiraishi Hina on the way, Nia not only saved her but also healed her eyes and took her in.

The registration for the Initiator was changed to Shiraishi Hina.

To become a registered Initiator, the International Initiator Supervision Organization had to assess the Cursed Child's combat ability, physical condition, type of Gastrea factor, and level of erosion.

This required blood tests.

While Nibelcole combat ability was undoubtedly up to par, she failed the blood test.

So, to achieve her goal, Nia had Shiraishi Hina replace Nibelcole as the registered Initiator.

A slightly excited Shiraishi Hina closed the church door and hurried to hand the letter to Nia, who was busy drawing a manga.

"Oh, it's here already?"

Nia set down her brush, opened the letter, and pulled out two licenses.

One was her Promoter's license.

The other was Shiraishi Hina's Initiator license.

"Let's see... Avian type Gastrea factor?"

Nia adjusted her glasses, not particularly surprised. "No wonder you sing so well. It really is related to your Gastrea factor."

Before meeting Nia, the blind Shiraishi Hina had made a living by singing.

Since being taken in, she'd continued to sing, encouraged by Nia.

What had once been a means of survival had now become a joy she could share with others.

"Still, I might not be much help in battle," Shiraishi Hina said regretfully. "Aside from my self healing ability, I'm definitely not as strong as other Cursed Children."

There were many types of avian Gastrea factors, and the abilities they granted varied widely.

Some gave sharp vision, others sharp claws, and some even allowed gliding.

But her ability was sound based completely non combative.

If not for Nia's insistence, the International Initiator Supervision Organization would never have registered a Cursed Child like her.

"Don't be down. I never planned for you to fight in the first place," Nia said, pulling her close and ruffling her hair. "Besides, I didn't take you in to use you. You're here to be my assistant."

"But wouldn't Nibelcole be a better assistant? She's been with you longer and knows you better."

"Ah... that girl..."

Nia glanced out the window at Nibelcole, who was watching ants in the backyard, and sighed. "Forget it. Fighting's probably the only thing she's good at."

"Is that so? I think Nibelcole always so calm and composed."

"That's because there's nothing going on in her head."

Nia sighed again.

The Nibelcole created by the system was vastly different from the original.

Her personality was nothing like the "Devil's Daughter" she was supposed to be.

All she did all day was eat and sleep.

It had been a week since they'd arrived in this world, and with no battles to fight, Nibelcole presence had become increasingly... annoying.

It was like having a freeloading relative during the holidays.

Sometimes, Nia wondered if she'd wasted an Spirit Summoning Ticket on a bodyguard who did nothing but eat and sleep.

"Oh well. Her time will come eventually."

She shook her head and turned her attention back to her Promoter's license.

With this, she was finally an official Promoter.

Now, it was time to start working on the main and side quests.

Nia picked up her phone and dialed one of the few numbers saved in her contacts.

The call connected quickly.

"This is Rentaro. What's up?"

"Good morning, young man. I've got my Promoter's license. When can you introduce me to Kisara chan?"

"Oh, it got approved that fast? They must really be short on Promoters," Rentaro said.

"But are you sure you want to join the company I'm working for? It's not great for an employee to say this, but if you're looking to make money, Kisara's company is the last place you should join."

"Making money is one reason, but it's not the main one," Nia replied calmly. "Don't worry, I know what I'm doing. Just introduce me to Kisara."

"Alright... if you insist."

"Then I'll leave it to you."

Five minutes later.

At the Tendo Civil Security Company, President Kisara Tendo ended her call with Rentaro.

"I didn't expect anyone to want to join my company," she muttered, tapping her desk with slender fingers. "This is... unusual. So unusual that I'm starting to doubt this Nia Honjo's real motives."

This was something Kisara had never anticipated.

From the start, she hadn't expected anyone to join her company.

As the rebellious daughter of the Tendo family Tokyo's most influential political family Kisara had a poor reputation in the industry.

Even if she swallowed her pride and tried to recruit people herself, no one would give her the time of day.

If Rentaro hadn't left the Tendo family with her and voluntarily joined her company, she might've starved to death somewhere.

She trusted Rentaro.

But she didn't trust anyone else.

From their conversation, Kisara could tell that Rentaro trusted Nia Honjo a lot. And they'd only known each other for a week.

This was highly unusual.

She knew Rentaro was a cautious person who didn't trust others easily.

Something must have happened between them that she didn't know about.

When she asked Rentaro why he trusted Nia, he hesitated and said it was a secret between them.

This answer set off alarm bells in Kisara's mind.

"Nia Honjo... I don't know what kind of spell you've cast on Rentaro, but it won't work on me," Kisara murmured, gazing out the window at the bustling city.

"Let's see what you're really after."
