Chapter 79: Chapter 79: Gaal - Being Cool is a Lifelong Journey!
Kyoka's brow was twitching rapidly. As expected, humans are no good. Why not just destroy them all while we're at it?
Grimoire Heart hired them, requesting they intercept Gaal Brons. Including her, there were four of them. But Grimoire Heart only sent two.
Are they serious about getting rid of Gaal Brons or not?
Hearing Kyoka's questioning, Azuma also showed an awkward expression. He didn't like it either, but they were seriously short on people now.
Stinger and Rustyrose were dead. Ultear betrayed them, Meredy was just a child, and Zancrow was too cursed to leave the airship.
How did Gaal Brons manage to curse Zancrow in the middle of the night?
Because of it, no one had a good night's sleep for days; even Hades was busy shielding the Magic Airship while researching ways to break or defend against the curse.
The guild was down to just the two of them who could still take action, and they couldn't show any weakness.
Azuma cleared his throat and spoke, "There's nothing we can do; the guild has too many issues to deal with lately. The Magic Council is targeting us too. Zancrow is busy with other matters, so it's just Kain Hikaru and me who are available. But with this many, it's more than enough. We've prepared spatial restriction arrays and magic suppression circles. We'll definitely be able to take down Gaal Brons."
Kyoka clicked her tongue but didn't say more; her expression relaxed somewhat, and Seilah and Tempester also remained silent.
However, the completely demon-like Franmalth, with his rotund body armored and a single large eye, mocked, "Hehehe, what's with so many people? Don't get it wrong. We are not like you ugly humans; we are noble demons. Once Gaal Brons is finished, I want his soul, hehe. I wonder how much the soul of such a gifted human brat is worth?"
Azuma's face darkened, letting out a cold snort without saying anything.
Kyoka furrowed her brow, "Shut up, Franmalth."
Franmalth showed a nonchalant expression, soon followed by a Grimoire Heart Airship landing nearby.
As Azuma walked onto the airship, he said, "Gaal Brons stayed in Vineyard City within the Fiore Kingdom for a while and then bought a ticket to the Ishgar Continent. Last night, intelligence reported that he's appeared in Norwich City in the west. We need to get to Norwich quickly, lure him out, and then deal with Gaal Brons."
---
Western Ishgar Continent, Norwich City.
As one of the port cities, it primarily connects the Fiore Kingdom with merchant ships occasionally arriving from the Western Continent.
Gaal strolled through the bustling streets, occasionally checking out items at the stalls, while his psychic power discreetly monitored the mages keeping an eye on him. He nonchalantly continued shopping as if unaware.
Few days later, in a hotel room, Gaal noticed the number of mages watching him had decreased, leaving only one. He approached the window, pushing it open.
From the third floor, he had a clear view of the street below.
The mage monitoring him was startled, instinctively drawing back and reporting in a low voice into a communicator, "Report to Azuma-sama, Gaal Brons is behaving oddly. He just opened the window suddenly. Unknown... Oh no! He's headed east, flying out of the city!"
In the dark guild base outside the city, Azuma's face darkened as he heard this.
The few mages who gave up shadowing Gaal and returned to suck up to him were shocked.
Kyoka laughed mockingly, "Idiots. Gaal Brons, a mage of that caliber, and you sent these guys to follow him? He must have caught on long ago. Fools. Now that Gaal Brons has been alerted, what do we do?"
Azuma's expression turned grim as he eyed the mages, "This is what you call foolproof?"
He could hear the sarcasm in Kyoka's tone but was helpless.
These were the only people they had. What were the alternatives, grabbing random civilians from the street to shadow Gaal Brons?
Azuma's voice was tinged with irritation, glaring at them.
The mages shivered, with the lead mage hurriedly saying, "We still have time! Our base is southeast. If we hurry, we can intercept that cursed Gaal Brons!" Azuma snorted coldly, "Which direction?"
The mages pointed east outside the city.
Azuma glanced at Kain Hikaru, "Kain Hikaru, intercept him first. We're right behind you."
Kain Hikaru, although hesitant, nodded, "I understand."
He then took out his doll. Unlike before, it had three strands of hair embedded in it, allowing for three enhancement spells.
But against Gaal Brons, Kain Hikaru decided using the Light Source Body enhancement would suffice.
He couldn't risk Gaal's curse, which rendered Zancrow's physical existence worse than death.
With the doll in hand, Kain Hikaru took a deep breath, "Self-Enhancement: Light Source Body!"
The doll in his palm emitted a golden glow, and Kain Hikaru himself turned a bright gold. In the blink of an eye, he vanished into a golden streak.
The demons from Tartaros watched with interest, surprised by the speed. Curses and curse magic bore similarities, especially Kyoka's self-enhancement curse, as she thoughtfully observed Kain Hikaru's vanishing figure.
Azuma raised his hands, and a rumbling arose from the ground. A wolf's head formed of rock appeared beneath them, lifting them toward the east.
Outside Norwich City, high above, Gaal, dressed in a black mage's robe, swiftly traversed the sky. The forest below receded rapidly.
Suddenly, a light shone from the ground below to his right, accompanied by a loud shout, "Flash: Mighty Flying Kick!!!"
Before the shout was heard, the light arrived first. Gaal raised his right hand and summoned a magic circle, turning to observe the approach.
BOOM!
In an explosion, Kain Hikaru, enveloped in gold light, attempted a kick against Gaal's magic shield.
The force caused ripples on the shield, but Kain Hikaru's leg couldn't break through.
With surprise and a serious tone, Kain Hikaru remarked, "Such quick reflexes."
This was practically an ambush, despite announcing it. Yet Gaal's defense was even faster than the attack. Was it possible to defend against such a strike?
Gaal chuckled, his voice calm and light, "I've been wary of you from the start. Those who followed me were incompetent; maybe change them next time. Did you use Light Magic, too? Interesting."
Kain Hikaru, slightly stunned, protested, "And you, being from a Light Guild, use such underhanded curse techniques. So what if I use Light Magic?"
Gaal nodded understandingly, his eyes glimmering with a faint golden hue, "Makes sense."
In the next moment, swoosh, swoosh—two beams of golden light shot from Gaal's eyes like arrows, slicing through the air and slamming Kain Hikaru into the ground below.
Accompanied by a thunderous crash, the earth trembled, and dust billowed like mist swirling around.
Countless birds were startled into flight.
Within the dust cloud, Kain Hikaru promptly stood and swept away the dust, glaring at Gaal, who stood with arms crossed in the sky, bursting out, "What the...! Using eye magic? Are you out of your mind?"
Was his talent so high that he could do anything he wanted? He even doubted his own eyes. Compressing a magic circle to the size of a pupil—wasn't that just ridiculous?!
