Chapter 46: Chapter 46: Renting a Training Ground?
The others watching from the side felt completely speechless.
"Women are all the same, huh..."
"By the way, Boss, you still haven't told me how good Cleffa is!" Ino asked, lifting her head again after playing with Cleffa for a while.
Ryo smiled. "Cleffa is quite good. Among all the Pokémon, it ranks in the middle to upper tier."
"Huh?" Ino looked a bit disappointed. "Just middle to upper tier?"
Cleffa!
As if sensing Ino's emotions, Cleffa widened its big eyes and gave her a cute, innocent look.
Seeing Cleffa's adorable expression, Ino instantly forgot her disappointment. "It's okay. It doesn't matter if Cleffa is only middle-tier."
After all, when she first saw Cleffa, it wasn't its strength that attracted her. It was that irresistibly cute appearance.
Ryo shook his head. "Although base stats are important for Pokémon, it's not the only thing that matters. The most crucial factor is the trainer. If the trainer does well, even Pokémon with lower stats can achieve great things."
"But if the trainer is not good, then even high-stat Pokémon will be useless."
"So, you don't need to focus too much on stats. Just concentrate on nurturing the Pokémon you've bonded with."
Ino nodded seriously, gazing at Cleffa with a determined look. "I'll definitely train Cleffa well."
Cleffa!
Hearing Ino's promise, Cleffa smiled brightly and nodded in response.
Watching this scene, Ryo and the others, including Asuma, couldn't help but smile as well.
"What about you guys? Do you want to check your Pokémon stats too?" Ryo asked after a brief pause, turning toward the remaining three.
Asuma shook his head. "No need, Boss. You just said it yourself—stats aren't everything. What matters most is how we train them, so there's no point in obsessing over it."
Ryo nodded. "Fair enough."
At this moment, Shikamaru stepped forward. "By the way, Boss, when we went into the mountains earlier, we saw two Pokémon training in the backyard. We scanned them without your permission. I'm sorry about that."
Ryo waved it off. "No worries. It's nothing."
Everyone who bought a Pokédex today ended up scanning Dragonite and Espeon in the backyard at some point.
In fact, some people even tried to catch Dragonite with a Poké Ball—only to be beaten up and thrown into the mountains for their trouble.
Curiosity is natural, and Ryo never intended to keep Dragonite a secret.
Shikamaru nodded and continued. "Boss, can we bring our Pokémon here to train with yours?"
Ryo's eyes widened in surprise. He blinked at Shikamaru, taken aback.
This was the first time anyone had made such a request—to bring their Pokémon to his place for training?
Was this some kind of joke? He barely had enough time to train himself, and now they wanted to use his space too?
Just as he was about to refuse, Shikamaru quickly added, "Of course, we'd be willing to pay for it. We won't disturb you. We'd just need a spot to train."
"Huh?"
Hearing this, Ryo paused and reconsidered. "You just want a training space?"
Shikamaru nodded. "Yes. We're willing to pay 5,000 ryo per person per day. All we need is a place in the back to train."
Ryo raised an eyebrow in surprise, his expression turning serious as he looked at Shikamaru.
The others were equally stunned, unable to believe what they were hearing.
Ino, especially, was baffled. "Shikamaru, are you crazy? Spending 5,000 ryo just to train for a day?"
Although 5,000 ryo wasn't a huge amount for Shikamaru, it still seemed excessive to pay that much just to train.
"Let him decide, Ino," Asuma interjected, stopping her from continuing. He gave Shikamaru a thoughtful look.
Knowing Shikamaru well, Asuma was aware that his student must have his reasons. Even if it seemed surprising, he wasn't going to stop him.
Shikamaru nodded at Asuma's silent approval and turned back to Ryo.
Ryo thought for a moment before nodding. "Alright. 5,000 ryo a day. It's a good deal for you."
"Boss, you got that wrong! This is a good deal for you!" Ino rolled her eyes. "You'll be earning 5,000 ryo a day without lifting a finger."
Ryo ignored Ino's comment, his eyes still fixed on Shikamaru.
He knew exactly what Shikamaru was thinking. With Dragonite's high level, just observing its training and getting a few pointers could be invaluable for someone with no prior experience in Pokémon training.
Not to mention, Ryo did have some training equipment in the backyard that could enhance the effectiveness of their training.
Using those tools, along with imitating Dragonite and Espeon's routines, and possibly getting some advice, 5,000 ryo a day was definitely a bargain for Shikamaru.
Shikamaru smiled. "Alright then, Boss. It's settled. I'll pay for the first ten days upfront."
As if worried that Ryo might change his mind, Shikamaru quickly handed over the money.
Ryo shook his head helplessly and accepted it.
Ino, watching the scene unfold, felt even more puzzled. She glanced at Shikamaru with suspicion. "Are you serious?"
Shikamaru nodded and turned to the others. "If you want, why don't you join me for training too?"
"No way! I'm not—" Ino immediately began to refuse, but before she could finish, Asuma nodded. "Alright, we'll join too. Boss, I'll pay for ten days like Shikamaru."
Choji didn't overthink it and quickly pulled out some cash as well.
To him, it wasn't something worth pondering too much. Since Shikamaru, the smartest one in their group, was doing it, following his lead seemed like the best choice.
Ino froze for a moment, her mind in a daze. Then, gritting her teeth, she also handed her money to Ryo.
After all, if everyone in their team was training here, it wouldn't make sense for her to go elsewhere.
Ryo watched this unfold, a bitter smile creeping onto his face.
He suddenly realized that, despite selling so many energy cubes, providing a training ground might actually be more profitable.
Accepting the money from the group, Ryo nodded. "Alright. As long as you're happy with it."
It didn't matter to him. Even if they gained something, he wouldn't lose out.
If Dragonite and Espeon could hear Ryo's thoughts, they'd probably smile wryly and say, "You've got to be kidding us."
Sure, you're not losing anything—but we are the ones doing all the work!
