Infinite Evolution: My Idle Evolution System

Chapter 450: Lang Qingyue

Lang Qingyue went deathly quiet, a blueness coloring the atmosphere.

Necro, on the other hand, was focused on something else. 'The Greenflame and Hundred-Eyed Sects joined together…?'

His eyes narrowed into slits as his killing intent flared.

"M-Mr. Python," Lang Qingyue said through tears and sniffles, failing to bury her extreme sadness. "Is… Is there any possible way that you could… that you could…"

"You want me to get revenge for you?" Necro finished what she was trying to say. "I can do that."

"I-It'll only be until I can get in contact with the Shaman Clans in the North— Wait, you'll what!?"

That easy!?

"I have personal misgivings with the Hundred-Eyed Sect, so the matter of your revenge is simply something that would've happened either way," said Necro, his voice as cold as ice. "They'll die. Every single last one of them."

Although shocked, Lang Qingyue's mouth gradually transformed into a smile. Tears of happiness and sadness mixed together, contorting her face into something hard to put into words.

Who would've thought… that when she had no one to rely on and everyone she cared about dead, the one that extended a hand—parting the darkness that clouded her vision—would turn out to be a talking wooden snake…

"T-Thank you so much, Mr. Python… Yo-You have no idea how much this means to me…"

"Mhmm, no problem," said Necro. "But I'm not a python."

Lang Qingyue paused. "You're not…?"

"Nope," Necro replied. "This is merely an extension of my main body."

"...Your main body…?"

"Would you like to see?" asked Necro, finding her expressions quite amusing.

The more she talked with this mysterious entity, the less sorrow she felt, so if she could find a reason to stay around him longer, she'd take it. Therefore, she nodded meekly, soon asked to follow behind him.

It was also only now that she realized that Mr. Python was connected to the ground below!

It really was just an extension!

Then what was the main body like!?

Yet no matter how absurd her imagination ran wild, nothing could've prepared her for what she witnessed after passing around a mountain corner…

There, in the middle of a once destitute area, sat a massive tree hundreds of feet tall.

It had a very wide trunk as well as thick and long branches that swayed in a mesmerizing way. But most remarkable and terrifying of all was the giant building-sized spherical orb placed in the center of the tree's huge surface mass.

"This is my main body."

"Hwa…!?"

The orb had a face! And it spoke!

What sort of Demon Beast was this!?

"That surprised, are you?" Necro chuckled a little, laughing for the first time in ages. "Want to see something even cooler?"

Without waiting for her response, all hundred of his large branches erupted in light, filtering between red, black, and purple in showy fashion. The branches then synced up with the dozens of thick roots wiggling around beneath the ground for hundreds of meters.

Dumbfoundment was etched across Lang Qingyue's face as she watched the illuminated branches and roots spin around. Gusts of air were blown about, and with one final eruption of light at the tree canopy and trunk, something beyond stellar revealed itself to the awed girl.

"So pretty…"

She had never seen anything so beautiful in her entire life. It was simply indescribable—impossible to put into words.

Necro smiled, deciding to let her revel in the dazzling light show for a while longer.

After some time, he eventually returned to normal.

That was when he said, "You're still injured, aren't you? And you have nothing to wear either. Here, I'll fix that for you."

While Lang Qingyue was still in the process of leaving her reverie, a droplet of [Life Essence] was dropped on her. During her healing process, Necro called for a couple of his Shadow Tree Soldiers, having them stitch together some temporary clothing using the fur of slain animals.

Like scary maids of wood, they created a fluffy coat that fit Lang Qingyue like a glove.

"It's winter, after all," said Necro as he ordered the Shadow Tree Soldier to back away from the woman who was obviously terrified of them. "You have to stay warm, right? That's one of the human race's weaknesses, if I remember correctly…"

Lang Qingyue stared at the cozy coat draped around her. Her eyes gradually warmed up alongside her body temperature as she snuggled it close to her face.

"Thank you," she said with genuine gratitude in her voice. "Th-Thank you so much… Y-You're just so… hick— so… sniff, sniff…"

'Huh?'

Lang Qingyue randomly began crying her eyes out while hugging his trunk.

Not knowing what to do, Necro said, "There, there…?"

She cried even louder in response to his attempts at comfort…

'Human women are so complicated,' Necro thought. 'How do you get them to stop secreting strange liquids out of their eye sockets?'

For a while, he was held hostage by the sorrowful woman. However, he ultimately regained his freedom, prompting him to say:

"You can feel free to stay here with me if you'd like. You have nowhere to go, and I don't feel good about leaving strays out in the cold. Also, I feel like you'd want to witness your vengeance with your own eyes, not from word of mouth."

"Y-You'd really have someone like me…?" Lang Qingyue asked through residual sniffles. "I… I wouldn't be a bother to you?"

"No," replied Necro. "Just don't interrupt my naps. I don't like being awake only to realize I still can't move from this spot."

"Mhmkay!" Lang Qingyue beamed, her fright from earlier completely replaced with an ever-growing affection for this big softie of a tree with a scary exterior. "Can I call you Brother Tree from now on?"

"You can just use my name."

"Your name?"

Necro grinned from edge to edge, his pointed mouth a truly horrifying thing to see.

"Necro," he declared, causing leaves to scatter into the wind. "That's what a kind-hearted person called me a long time ago. Now it's mine forever."

"Necro… Necro…" Lang Qingyue repeated the name a few times, her smile widening after each time. "It's a nice name. I bet the person who gave it to you was wonderful."

"...She was…"
