Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix

Chapter 619: Too cool

"If we can do that thanks to you, why not we just drop in the middle of the ice golems and kill them all? We won’t have to worry about poison with them, right?" Jori asked. "That will save time, we can use the confusion in our favors and the enemies will be confused."

"They must have one trick or two up their sleeve, so I don’t want to risk that," Rain said. "We will strike fast and strong, but not like before, that is why we are going to retreat once we achieve our goals and before the enemies can try anything to fight back."

The enemies had deployed the first groups of monsters, starting with the trolls, followed by the salamanders, and now the ice golems, the first two had fewer if compared to the new force. With their numbers likely close to five thousand, the odds were not overwhelmingly against the humans.

However, what concerned Rain the most was the enemy’s ability to control these creatures. He wasn’t sure how they could leverage that power, so he intended to be cautious until he had a better understanding of the enemy’s capabilities and strategies. The key was to remain vigilant and adapt as they learned more about their opponents.

"I am fine either way as long as I keep cutting things with my spear," Reca said. "Still, are we only going to keep fighting monsters?"

"The enemies probably want that, decrease our numbers without losing theirs is a sure fire way to win any wars," Rain said. "That is why we need to kick their asses hard and destroy the army of ice golems before retreating."

Jori and Reca nodded and soon they weren’t to call the warriors that were going with them. Letting their fighting spirit do the fighting for them was fine and all, but they would need more than that this time, they would need total focus because Rain’s plans relied on that to work. "I would rather not use such a nice trick so soon, but it is better than using a large-scale spell that will put the enemies on guard," Rain thought.

"Be careful out there, don’t hesitate in using the deals if you have to," Terra said when the troops assembled outside.

Rain nodded… Terra was busy healing a lot of people and while she was using potions as well to recover her mana, taking hers would still be taxing for her. Terra and Seara gained experience when Rain used the seals, that means that they also put some effort and had to endure their energy being drained beyond their control.

Regardless, Rain quickly created a thin ice layer below everyone’s feet and then they began to fly toward the enemies. They used about ten percent of their energy while moving before, but now Rain was planning to let them use all the energy only for fighting.

When the group found the enemies in the distance, they saw the ice golems still on the same spot as before. The Bodies of the monsters that had been burned were lying around, calling them bodies was a bit too much, charred remains would be more accurate.

In any case, they ignored those since they weren’t emitting any miasma and as they got closer the ice golems raised their arms and then began to fire countless ice arrows at them.

The ice arrows from the golems rained down upon the warriors, but the sturdy shields of the warriors held strong against the barrage. The intensity of the attack created a cacophonous noise akin to a meteor shower pounding against a city forged from metal.

However, the diehard warriors stood their ground and endured the unrelenting impacts, their shields offering them protection against the cold onslaught.

As soon as the warriors reached the golems, they used Shield swings to test the endurance of the monsters and as expected, they barely flinched. When that happened, the ice under their feet fell apart and as they had planned, they used Limit Breaker and Magic Boost to attack the enemies with their weapons.

Without the necessary range to keep attacking like that, the golems began to spin their bodies and then their arms began to hit the warriors, but they stood their ground until their allies coming from behind jumped over them and impaled the heads of the golems.

Before they could even fall, the warriors flew backward before the monsters could recover and counter attack and then the warriors that blocked the previous attacks used their spears to impale the monsters over and over again. Other warriors came from the side and chopped off the limbs of the monsters.

At first, the ice golems tried to regenerate, but eventually, their bodies decreased in size to the point that it was useless.

In their final moments, the ice golems charged toward the warriors once more and then exploded while firing countless ice arrows in all directions. Fortunately, their targets were floating in the air with their shields raised.

"All right, you guys move to the side and then let the others gain more experience," Rain said while making those warriors fly to the flanks.

Thanks to the presence of the ice golems, the area was quite cold. That decreased the cost of the ice spells and increased their power too. Thanks to it, Rain could move his warriors like that, like chess pieces.

The warriors that attacked the flanks were led by Jori and Reca… Rain didn’t have to worry about them, but he took a peak at them just to be safe. As usual, they chopped the golems limbs easily, but when the beasts exploded, Jori swung his sword round him in a circle and blocked all of the ice arrows. Reca also spun her spear and did the same.

"What the hell? Are they trying to become cooler than me?" Rain furrowed his eyebrows. "What next? Are they going to send right back at the monsters the projectiles?"
