Chapter 27: Chapter 27: The Shock of Qin Shi Huang!

Wang Yan said nothing further, merely glancing at Zhao Feng.

"Your original logistics camp hasn't been moved yet, but I've arranged barracks for you at the main base," she said calmly.

"Also, General Li Teng wishes to meet you tonight. I'll have someone inform you when the time comes."

"What does General Li want with me?" Zhao Feng asked.

"You'll know when you meet him," Wang Yan replied.

"Alright," Zhao Feng nodded, refraining from asking more.

"I'm leaving," Wang Yan said, giving Zhao Feng another glance. Seeing that he had nothing more to say, she seemed a bit disappointed but turned and headed for the door.

As she reached the entrance to the wounded soldiers' camp, Wang Yan suddenly paused.

"I may have joined the army to prove myself, but do you know why I need to prove myself? Do you think this is something I truly want?"

With those words, Wang Yan left, her tone carrying a trace of bitterness and unwillingness.

Zhao Feng, however, was perplexed.

"How would I know why you want to prove yourself? Why do you sound so resentful toward me?" Zhao Feng muttered to himself, feeling baffled. They had barely interacted, and yet her tone carried an inexplicable sense of grievance.

Nearby, Chen Fuzi watched Wang Yan leave with a knowing smile before turning to Zhao Feng.

"Young man," he said, chuckling, "you're quite lucky with the ladies, aren't you?"

"What do you mean?" Zhao Feng asked, confused.

"I know about this young lady. Her background is far from simple. If she's taken a liking to you, your prospects are bright," Chen Fuzi teased.

"Chen, don't spout nonsense. I barely know her, let alone anything about her liking me," Zhao Feng retorted, feeling slightly exasperated.

"I heard someone saved her life amid the chaos of the battlefield. I wasn't sure who it was before, but now I know it's you," Chen Fuzi said, still smiling.

"A life-saving favor, Zhao Feng! That's no small thing. Aren't you two destined?"

Zhao Feng shot him a glance, choosing to focus instead on tending to the wounded.

Chen Fuzi, watching his retreating figure, chuckled to himself.

"Who would've thought? General Wang Jian's precious daughter has her eyes on someone. At fifteen, she's at the age of marriage. His Majesty intended to arrange her marriage to Prince Fusu, but she joined the army to avoid it, hoping her military merits might change the situation. A remarkable girl indeed."

The solemn and majestic Qin King's Hall

"Reckless ambition and negligence! Failing to fortify Yang City and leaving it vulnerable while pursuing the enemy! Allowing Bo Yuan to hide his forces and strike at our supply lines. Li Teng," Qin Shi Huang's voice thundered, his expression dark with anger, "you have greatly disappointed me!"

"Your Majesty, please calm yourself!"

The court officials all bowed, holding their ceremonial tablets high.

Bo Yuan's ambush had disrupted the supply lines, marking a setback for Qin's campaign against Han. It was a blunder that could have been avoided, and everyone in the court understood the weight of this failure.

"Your Majesty," said Wei Liao, stepping forward, "though Bo Yuan's ambush caused disruption, his forces are limited. He faces none other than General Wang Jian. While there may be losses, this incident will not hinder Qin's conquest of Han."

Qin Shi Huang's cold expression softened slightly. He nodded. "I hope you are right."

"However, Li Teng's negligence will not be forgotten. His punishment shall wait until after the campaign," he declared.

At that moment, a loud voice interrupted.

"Report!"

A messenger, bearing a command banner and a bamboo tube, entered the hall urgently.

"An urgent report from General Wang Jian. I request Your Majesty's review!"

The court turned its attention to the messenger. Most officials felt a mix of trepidation and hope this could be either terrible or great news.

The messenger knelt, presenting the bamboo tube. Zhao Gao stepped forward, retrieved it, and swiftly brought it to Qin Shi Huang, bowing low.

"Your Majesty, the urgent report," Zhao Gao said as he handed it over.

Qin Shi Huang's expression remained impassive as he opened the bamboo scroll. His eyes scanned its contents, and slowly, a look of surprise crossed his face.

When he finished reading, his stern demeanor shifted, replaced by a rare smile.

"Ha! Bo Yuan! All your schemes have come to nothing!" Qin Shi Huang laughed heartily, his voice echoing through the hall.

The oppressive tension that had filled the chamber lifted instantly.

"Your Majesty," Prime Minister Li Si stepped forward cautiously, "has General Wang Jian defeated Bo Yuan?"

"Not only defeated," Qin Shi Huang said with satisfaction, "but Bo Yuan is dead."

"Without Bo Yuan, Han has no capable generals left to challenge Qin's army," he declared.

The court erupted in jubilation.

"Congratulations, Your Majesty! The conquest of Han is within reach!"

"General Wang Jian's command surpasses all; Bo Yuan's risky maneuvers were doomed to fail," Wei Liao said with a smile.

Qin Shi Huang, however, shook his head.

"You're mistaken, Wei Liao. This victory wasn't achieved by General Wang Jian," he said, a peculiar expression on his face.

"If not General Wang Jian, then who? Could it be Li Teng, finally correcting his mistake?" Wei Liao asked.

Qin Shi Huang let out a faint chuckle, raising the bamboo scroll. "This report will astonish you all. Zhao Gao, read it aloud."

Zhao Gao unrolled the scroll and began reading:

"From Wang Jian to His Majesty the King!"

"In the battle of Yang City, General Li Teng's reckless ambition and failure to fortify the city allowed Bo Yuan to exploit the opportunity to launch an ambush on our forces, striking at Yang City and disrupting our supply lines.

Bo Yuan's ambush resulted in heavy losses over 9,300 of our 10,000 logistics soldiers perished.

However, amidst this crisis, one brave lieutenant from the logistics corps took command, rallying his scattered troops and leading a counterattack.

With fewer than 5,000 men, and using only improvised weapons, they managed to hold Bo Yuan's force of over 7,000 elite troops at bay.

Their resistance bought enough time for reinforcements from Yang City to arrive. Together, they routed the enemy and secured a decisive victory.

This battle demonstrated the unparalleled bravery of Qin soldiers, even among our logistics troops. This victory belongs to them.

The key to this triumph lies in one individual…"
