Chapter 196: CA [196]: Thunder and Triumph
In the Danmachi world, leveling up through the Blessing followed a pattern: during an upgrade, the skill or trait you most desired often manifested. With strong enough resolve, you could even steer the outcome toward a specific skill.
Kirari was driven by fierce determination. Once she set a goal, she pursued it relentlessly. As she put it, a woman of the Momobami family must remain steadfast, devoted to her chosen path, and partner, forever.
Altair might've quipped about outdated traditions, but as Kirari was his partner, he had no complaints. The Momobami upbringing was commendable, indeed.
The arsenal Altair crafted for Kirari, massive cleavers, alloy arms, and anti-gravity gear, hinged on one condition: she needed to wield lightning magic to control them. Without it, the equipment would be unusable.
Thus, to reach Level 3, Kirari had to awaken her lightning magic.
Her burning desire drew the attention of the goddess Hestia, who, fresh from parading her litle girl legion through Orario, returned to Utopia City to oversee Kirari's upgrade. At Level 3, Kirari awakened her coveted skill.
[Thunderghost]
Let thunder purge all sin!
Winds, bow to me!
One slash, end it all!
The chant, unmodified and bold, was pure Kirari. Did she have no shame?
With Thunderghost's blessing, Kirari could harness lightning magic. Twin horns sprouted from her head, shoulder guards materialized, and lightning tattoos traced across her back. In this state, her speed and attack power surged, and she could strike enemies with bolts of electricity.
The skill also boosted her magic stat. Previously reliant on agility and dexterity like Altair, her magic capacity now grew substantially.
Kirari had effectively become a Herrscher of Thunder, minus a pilfered dragon mount.
This skill allowed Altair's crafted gear, especially the oversized cleavers, to shine. Unlike some worlds, Danmachi's magic didn't provide weapons, but Kirari's new abilities paired perfectly with her arsenal.
She could now deal significant damage to massive monsters, even the dragons on Floor 51. If my Railgun fires fast enough, no dragon scale can hold. Worst case, I launch a giant iron ball at its head. No need to pierce, impact alone will cause internal bleeding, a lethal injury!
Altair doubted dragon scales could withstand the Railgun's terrifying force.
Kirari's combat prowess skyrocketed at Level 3. Though not as dramatic as Altair's growth, paired with her custom gear, she was a force to be reckoned with in Orario. To challenge her now, an opponent needed at least Level 6 strength. Level 5s would fall to her summoned ghost armor and relentless slashes, as most adventurers in this world prioritized offense over defense, unable to endure her onslaught.
Kirari's strength thrilled Hestia. Beyond Altair, the Hestia Familia now boasted another powerhouse, with Kayo and Tina showing immense potential. Though small, the Familia was an elite unit.
Ecstatic, Hestia demanded a celebration.
Freshly empowered, Kirari stepped into the kitchen, embracing the role of chef.
Was wielding lightning destined to make one a cook? Well, except for a certain lightning-obsessed shut-in.
With Hestia bringing a horde of litle girls from Gensokyo, the feast required a mountain of ingredients. Altair, Kayo, and Tina assisted Kirari, toiling in the kitchen for hours.
Hestia, meanwhile, lounged in the dining hall, surrounded by her adoring litle girls, basking in her divine glory. The worship, the unwavering belief in her every word, it was intoxicating. Among these litle girls, Hestia reclaimed her godly dignity.
Altair was pleased to see Hestia so content, though he worried her flaunting might invite trouble outside. Her showboating was a bit too brazen.
After the banquet, Hestia used her admin privileges to open a portal to Gensokyo, sending the litle girls back. Utopia City, though spacious, lacked beds for dozens of girls. They were better off resting in their cozy Gensokyo homes.
Altair, Kirari, Kayo, and Tina handled cleanup.
At the sink, Altair washed dishes under running water while Hestia perched happily on the counter nearby, chatting.
"Hey, Altair, guess who I took the gang to see today?" She asked.
"I don't know all the gods you visited, but I'm sure Hephaestus was one of them, right?"
"Exactly!" Hestia cheered.
"No surprise there. You're so predictable." Altair teased. With her limited circle in the lower world, Miach, Takemikazuchi, Hephaestus, Hephaestus was her favorite target for gloating. Once reliant on her, Hestia now seized every chance to rub her Familia's success in her face. Altair almost pitied Hephaestus.
"I showed off to Hephaestus, telling her you brought two crazy-talented newbies to our Familia. She got all grumpy and kicked us out. So stingy!" Hestia huffed.
No, no. I can imagine your smug face. Getting kicked out instead of punched was a mercy, Altair thought.
"After that, I ran into Loki. Oh man, she was shocked to see my huge crew! I told her they're all new Familia members you brought, and her face, priceless! I'm still laughing thinking about it." Hestia giggled.
Hestia had two favorite show-off targets: her friend Hephaestus, where her "sharing joy" was often mistaken for provocation, and her rival Loki, where she relished sparking envy.
Altair could only shrug. As long as Hestia was happy, he wouldn't interfere.
But as Hestia mentioned Loki, a window popped up before Altair.
