Chapter 293: Chapter 294

The reason Gensou had gone out of his way to eliminate Orochimaru early on was to prevent a scenario similar to the Fourth Great Ninja War, where Orochimaru—or in that case, Kabuto—used Edo Tensei to summon wave after wave of the dead, turning the war into a massive "dream team."

When quantity escalates with quality, it becomes a serious problem.

Gensou's current forces were sufficient to deal with the Allied Shinobi Forces. However, with the resurrection of one legendary ninja after another, uncertainty loomed large.

While Gensou himself did not fear these historical powerhouses, their sheer numbers could inflict significant casualties on his subordinates.

More importantly, the Divine Tree needed time to bloom and activate the Infinite Tsukuyomi. During this period, the resurrected might focus their efforts on destroying the Divine Tree—a task they had a fair chance of succeeding in.

After all, the Divine Tree, for all its power, had limited defenses, and its massive size made it difficult to protect every part of it.

Many resurrected shinobi possessed unique abilities, making it nearly impossible to guard the entire tree.

"Edo Tensei…"

As Gensou pondered, a deafening roar erupted from the distance.

He turned his head to see a massive crimson beam of light piercing the sky, shattering the clouds and distorting a wide swath of the heavens.

"Chaos is brewing, and all sorts of monsters are crawling out of the woodwork," he muttered.

The day had been bright and clear, yet now the area around the crimson beam was plagued by ominous thunderclouds. The scarlet lightning and oppressive aura signaled nothing good.

Most likely, some fool was attempting another harebrained scheme to dominate the ninja world—an all-too-common occurrence.

Such individuals were dime a dozen in the ninja world. Kill one batch, and another would soon rise.

Gensou had no intention of intervening.

However, just as he turned to leave, the crimson beam surged in size again. Scarlet lightning snaked across the sky, spreading far and wide.

Simultaneously, the atmosphere grew heavier, and the top of the beam morphed into a massive, visible vortex, greedily consuming energy.

Gensou raised an eyebrow, sensing the rapid flow of chakra toward the beam.

It wasn't just the immediate area.

One kilometer, five kilometers… ten kilometers.

The range far exceeded his expectations. Chakra from all around was being drawn toward the crimson light.

"Quite the commotion," Gensou muttered coldly, extending his hand to feel the uncontrolled chakra flow in the air.

"Someone dares to compete with me?"

Having already claimed all the chakra of this world as his own, Gensou would not tolerate anyone encroaching on his share.

Moreover, as he recalled the crimson beam, something clicked in his memory.

If his suspicions were correct…

With a sharp glint in his eye, Gensou sped toward the source of the disturbance.

Meanwhile, in Konoha, the village had grown lively with the arrival of one Edo Tensei summon after another.

The Five Great Nations had been prepared for this, sending representatives to Konoha, including descendants of the resurrected shinobi. These representatives sought to persuade the summoned to join the Allied Shinobi Forces, fighting for their descendants and their villages.

Although most of the resurrected agreed in principle, commanding them like regular subordinates proved challenging for the younger generation of the Five Nations.

Not every resurrected shinobi was as agreeable as the Four Hokage.

With time to spare, many of the resurrected wandered Konoha out of curiosity, eager to see what the modern world looked like.

To conserve chakra, Orochimaru, whose supply was not infinite, released control over the Edo Tensei summons after bringing them back. This allowed the resurrected their freedom.

While these shinobi strolled through the village, cloaked and concealed to avoid alarming the populace with their cracked and weathered appearances, Konoha's citizens couldn't help but notice mysterious figures quietly exploring their streets.

Amid this activity, Black Zetsu infiltrated Konoha unnoticed.

Slipping past the commotion, he reached the storage room holding the DNA samples from the Five Great Nations that had yet to be used in Edo Tensei. Casually, he swapped one sample with Madara's DNA.

Moments later, a group of shinobi entered, taking the samples to Orochimaru for the next round of Edo Tensei.

Hidden in the shadows, Black Zetsu smirked as he watched.

In a spacious chamber, Kabuto, his face marred with cracks, respectfully reported to Orochimaru:

"Orochimaru-sama, another batch of sacrifices and DNA samples has arrived."

Orochimaru patted Kabuto's shoulder, his raspy voice tinged with emotion.

"Truly, only with you by my side do I feel at ease. It's a shame you were killed by Gensou."

Adjusting his glasses, Kabuto replied calmly:

"It couldn't be helped. I'm nowhere near your level, Orochimaru-sama. That said, as an Edo Tensei summon, I feel no fatigue, no need for rest, no pain, and I recover chakra quickly. This state allows me to assist you more effectively."

"Is that so? I'll have to resurrect you more often, then."

"It would be my honor."

As they conversed, they approached the new batch of DNA samples and sacrifices. Orochimaru scanned the labels with amusement.

"The Five Nations have really brought out their hidden treasures this time."

This batch of Edo Tensei summons was of exceptional quality.

Eight samples in total.

Among them were the names of the First Kazekage, Mizukage, Raikage, and Tsuchikage, as well as their respective successors: the Second Kazekage, Mizukage, Raikage, and Tsuchikage.

"To think the Kages of entire villages would gather together like this. No one could have anticipated this before," Kabuto remarked with a grin.

"Indeed. We owe this to our dear Second Hokage, don't we, Tobirama-sama?"

Turning his head, Orochimaru addressed the silver-haired Tobirama, who stepped into the chamber with a stoic expression.

Tobirama glanced at Orochimaru and replied indifferently:

"Begin."

Given the gravity of summoning the Eight Kage, Tobirama had come to oversee the process and explain the situation to his fellow Kage afterward.

Orochimaru shrugged and obediently complied.

"Elders take precedence. Let's start with the first four Kage."
