Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Stay on earth diary
Once I left the car, I was escorted into the parliament by the inspectors.
It's a castle, this place.
I walked down the aisle, uncomfortable with the solemn interior.
At the destination where I was guided, The young Prime Minister asked me to shake his hand.
"Welcome to Canada. Ms. Lina Malderita."
"Thank you for accepting my sudden visit. Ottawa is a rich and beautiful city."
The sweet-masked prime minister smiled as I said a few words of greeting.
"I'm glad you liked it. I'm sure the people will be very pleased with your visit. Please take a look at Canada's specialties and tourist attractions."
"Thank you for your kindness. I've brought you a shrink box as well, and I hope you'll accept it."
At my words, the senators around him began to stir.
"Really? I didn't know you would take the trouble to bring us something so precious. This must be the goddess of luck smiling on Canada."
"Haha, I'm glad you like it."
Well, considering it as an interaction, I think it's better to visit different countries.
I'll probably focus on games, though.
I managed to survive my sudden visit to the Prime Minister by sending 30 shrink boxes to Canada.
As expected, I was given the hotel's top floor, where I could view the night scenery of Canada while operating my device.
The top news in the world today was also about me.
Apparently, the Canadian government made a big announcement about Ambassador Maldea's visit and the giving away the shrink box.
[Lina Marderita suddenly appears in Ottawa to greet the Canadian Prime Minister.]
A photo of me shaking hands with the prime minister with an awkward smile was displayed at the top of the social networking site.
On the Internet, various comments were written about the news.
[Welcome to Canada! I'm glad you came to my country.]
[Lina is so cute when she awkwardly greeting the Prime Minister.]
[There are so many bad news, but seeing the pictures of Lina's visit warms my heart.]
[What is Maldea's intention by visiting Canada?]
[Maybe they want to interact with people outside of the US and Japan.]
[I think she came to see a game company in Canada too. You know, BioWell, the company that developed Mass Effector.]
[The copyrights of Mass Effector are owned by an American company. Besides, after Maruo, it's hard to imagine suddenly getting their hands on a title like that.]
[It doesn't sound like she came to Canada for a video game.]
[Lina can be a rather clumsy girl. Maybe she made a mistake and ended up in Canada.]
[I'm prety sure you're right.]
[I've been thinking about it for a while. The case mistaking Tokyo for Kyoto and landing in Tokyo is a real thing. There's a lot of footage and photos of Lina in Akihabara.]
[Nikkendo has a branch office in Tokyo, and she was on her way there. There is no such thing as mistaking the target point for more than a hundred kilometers.]
Yap, There is.
But I can't say publicly that I made a mistake.
I think it's fine that this time, as Ambassador of Maldea, I tried to greet countries other than Japan and the US.
Eventually, I'll have to go to another country.
And then there is a knock at the entrance door.
"Yes."
I opens the door and see a woman in a suit standing there.
"Excuse me for taking your precious rest time. Ms. Marderita. I would like to ask you a few questions about your plans for tomorrow."
"My plans?"
"Yes. How long do you plan to stay in Canada? We are prepared to show you around Ottawa. We are also arranging a meeting with the Queen tomorrow."
"Well, thank you very much. I'd like to ask you something. Has the United States or the United Nations said anything?"
"Yeah. They want to send a pickup immediately. But don't worry, it is Miss Mardelita who sets the dates for the Earth visit, not the Americans. You may do as you wish."
"H-hahaha"
I couldn't help but smile back at the woman who smiled at me.
I have a feeling that there's something going on under the surface, but let's not touch it.
Yeah, it's best to live in peace.
In the morning of the next day, I was taken on a tour of Ottawa's tourist attractions.
The National Gallery of Art, with its large glass building.
The historic Notre Dame Cathedral.
And the Parliament building is also beautiful.
I was able to taste the rich culture and the grandeur of Canada.
"This is maple cookie."
For lunch, they served sweets with tea.
It was a three-leaf cookie, representing the leaves of the sugar maple tree, which is also used on the Canadian flag.
Stylish and very pretty.
"These cookies are made with maple syrup, a specialty of our country."
Canada is known for its maple syrup.
The guide explained to me that 80% of the maple syrup consumed in the world comes from Canada.
Come to think of it, I've never seen such a product like syrup at Maldea.
I took a bite of one of the cookies, and the rich sweetness flooded my mouth.
Yes, it's a nostalgic taste.
"This is very good. It tastes like nothing I' ve ever tasted in Maldea."
"That's good to know. Maple syrup is a food, but it can be stored. If you bring it to your planet, it will last for two years as long as you keep it sealed."
"Two years, that's great."
Perhaps because of my reaction, the people around me become noisy.
"Hey, arrange for a souvenir right away."
"Yes."
So they gave me about a thousand bottles of maple syrup as a gift.
If I didn't have a transport plane, I don't know how I would bring it back, but oh well, I'm glad I got them.
"Thank you so much for everything. I'll bring it back to Maldea and I'll share it with everyone."
The Canadians were happy to hear my words.
And so my trip to Canada came to an end.
In the evening I boarded a chartered plane and I was soon on my way to New York.
The flight from Ottawa took about an hour and a half.
Apparently, it was not that far after all.
When I arrived at the UN headquarters, I was immediately assigned to a meeting with a group of high-ranking UN officials, led by diplomat Randall Skaar.
The atmosphere in the conference hall was a bit grim.
After all, the people who run the United Nations in New York had made arrangements for my visit.
Then comes the news that Lina Malderita is smiling and shaking hands with the Canadian Prime Minister in Ottawa.
It's a ridiculous story.
I'm messing up the UN schedule …
At this point, I felt that I should be honest
"I'm sorry. I made a mistake in the landing location."
When I bowed my head in honest confession, Mr. Skaar took a breath of relief.
"After all… But can warp technology actually cross borders with just a small mistake?"
"No, well, there seems to be a problem with the interstellar warp I've been assigned… I' ll do my best to avoid such problems in the future."
"Oh, okay, .... Well, it looks like you're in unforeseen trouble too. From now on, we'll try to be as prepared as possible for wherever you lands."
"I'm sorry and thank you for everything."
"No, it's for your protection. Anyway, how's the game sales going in Mardea?"
"Yes, it's very good. We are planning to increase our production of Switz in the future."
"I'm glad to hear it. If you have any problems, please let us know. We' ll do whatever we can to help."
"Thank you. Actually, …."
I decided to talk about some of the problems that we are currently having in Maldaea.
One of the major problems is that online gaming is not feasible.
"Hmm. It is indeed a difficult problem. I'll discuss it with you."
That's what Mr. Skaar told me, but this is not something that can be solved overnight.
We put the issue off for now, then the talks in the US were over.
Next stop, Japan.
