Chapter 41: Chapter 40: In Vienna
Afterwards.
Lucas mother immediately contacted the police and made a report about me.
While waiting to be picked up from Vienna, I was welcomed at their home.
"I can't thank you enough for all you've done for my family, but I hope you'll at least have dinner with us."
Lucas mother made a special stew for me.
"Thank you very much. Let's eat."
A mouthful of warm soup calms me down.
As I ate, Lucas mother was sitting facing me.
"I knew that Lucas wanted to work as a clerk. I knew he would have a hard time with that eye, so I tried to help him develop skills that would not be handicapped by it."
"So it was the piano."
"Yes, it was. But I guess that was too much. Maybe it would have been better to find something that he could enjoy."
Lucas mother lowered her head, as she seemed to regret everything she had done.
"Lucas, it seems he like talking with other people."
"Yes, he does. He's usually very cheerful. He has a lot of friends at school, but I tied him up in lessons and I didn't let him play much I've been making that kid look so gloomy."
As we were talking about this, I heard Lucas's voice from the living room.
"Mom. It's amazing, the fire in the fireplace burns like this!"
I'm sure he will make many wonderful discoveries in the future.
As I was watching over him with a smile on my face, I heard a noisy commotion outside.
It seemed that it was time to head to the capital.
"Thank you very much!"
"Thank you, big sis. Bye!"
I waved to the parents and children of Heiligenstadt, and the car carrying me drove off toward Vienna.
"Sorry, I'm a little late picking you up."
The Austrian police man sitting next to me bowed in a respectful manner.
"No, thank you for coming."
"We had planned to have dinner with the Prime Minister today, but it's getting late so we' re heading to a hotel in the city. Please have a good night's rest."
"Thank you. I'm sorry for changing your schedules."
"No, we appreciate your help with the son of that house. Still, your German is very good."
Apparently, he was an acquaintance of Lucas mother, because he smilingly said that he knew Lucas mother.
Then I wondered if the mother was from the police.
She said she was helping to search for me, so I guess that's her job.
As I was making my predictions, the car arrived at the hotel.
As usual, I was escorted to my suite on the top floor, and soon fell asleep, exhausted.
The next morning.
I immediately headed out for my customary visit to the Austrian government.
We drove through the city surrounded by evenly spaced buildings and stopped at the Austrian chancellery.
As I entered, I was welcomed by all the leaders.
"Welcome to Austria. Miss Marderita."
"Thank you for your warm welcome."
The prime minister here is a handsome man, quite young.
When I greeted him in German, he widened his eyes in surprise.
"Wow, that's great pronunciation. Did you learn the language on purpose for this trip?"
"Yes, I wanted to learn about Austrian culture. I'm looking forward to hearing the historical classical music of Vienna."
"Yes, I hope you will enjoy it in the best possible environment."
The officials seemed to have a good impression of my German speaking skills.
Well, I worked hard to learn it!
Then I gave them forty Shrink Boxes, and the deal with the government was over.
I spent the afternoon listening to a opera and an orchestra in a very historical hall.
Oh, wow. Live orchestra and singing. I'm sure there are excellent performers and singers here.
Particularly impressive was Beethoven Symphony No. 9.
It was a joyful song.
The chorus that reverberated throughout the venue felt tremendously powerful.
I guess it' s like a mass of life energy.
It felt like I had been exposed to a lot of raw energy.
It wasn't magic, but it was like magic.
It is truly amazing the things mankind has created, isn't it?
"Did you like it, Miss Marderita?"
"Yes, it was wonderful. The power of the music seemed to arise from the depths of the earth."
In fact, Beethoven was born in Germany.
But his career as a musician was in Vienna.
From his twenties, he continued to create masterpieces despite suffering from hearing loss, and had a great impact on the history of music.
He had once lived in Heiligenstadt, where I met Lucas.
He had lived in Heiligenstadt, where I met Lucas. The guide gave me a wonderful explanation of that area.
That's why his mother loves Beethoven.
He is a local star, right?
After enjoying myself soaking up the Austrian culture, I returned to my hotel.
I sat on the big bed, which I had gotten used to, and watched TV.
There was an Austrian news program on the air.
"This is Lina Mardelita's first visit to Austria. She had dinner with the chancellor and then spent some time listening to musical performances in Vienna."
The man next to her clapped his hands in joy as the newscaster, a woman with glasses, read out the news.
"Well, I'm glad she finally came here."
"Yes, Lina Mardelita landed in Heiligenstadt, a suburb of Vienna. We have a video of a young boy who met her there and had his eyes healed."
And then the screen switched.
It was Lucas who appeared.
He looks smiling in front of the camera, and the interviewer calls out to him.
"Ms. Marderita is in Vienna right now. She may be watching this program. Please say something to her."
Then Lucas turned to the camera and said.
"Thank you, wizard sister. I'm sure I'll become a candy store clerk!"
The newscasters are smiling at the footage.
"Apparently, the rumors about her are true. Even in Austria, she came to a child in trouble and helped him with her magic."
"There is no doubt that she has brought happiness to our country."
The uncle has a look on his face that says, 'That warmed my heart.
Another weird theory about the warp was added to the list.
Oh well. I'm tired today.
I turned off the TV and lay down on my bed.
Well, this was the end of my trip to Austria.
I had to go to the airport immediately and fly to the UN headquarters.
However, an unplanned situation happened here.
In the middle of the trip, I received a call from the United Nations.
"A major hurricane is approaching the east coast of North America. There is a high possibility that it will hit New York City, and the damage could be severe. Can't we use the magic stones we've accumulated so far to eliminate it somehow?"
So far, the trade with Earth has been going smoothly.
Now, it seems, the time has finally come.
Finally, the request to deal with the disaster came.
The total number of magic stones in the United Nations so far and the amount I have in my possession now is just over 30,000.
That's enough to deal with a wide range of disasters.
A catastrophe requires more than a million magic stones, but this time it was a hurricane that occurs every year around the world.
In Japan, it is a typhoon.
It is a medium scale disaster. A few tens of thousands of magic stones are enough to deal with it.
I guess they want to test it in the presence of the United Nations first.
They're probably testing me to see if I can really handle it.
If that's the case, I have no choice but to prove it to them head-on.
Nevertheless, a disaster is a disaster.
Hurricanes are said to have strong winds at high altitudes, which can cause significant damage to skyscrapers in major cities.
In addition, suspension bridges are also susceptible to damage frome the high tides of water, increasing the damage.
Naturally, it was expected that there would be no small number of fatalities.
This is not just a test of the magic stone.
If I fail, there will be casualties.
With my heart pounding, I took a chartered plane to the east coast.
