Chapter 6: Chapter 6
Ace's all-out attack scattered the monster birds like leaves in a storm, and the shockwave even cracked open parts of the ant nest hell behind them.
But with great power came poor balance.
The force of his attack sent Ace teetering over the edge of the ship. His arms flailed, the sea rushing up to greet him—until two hands reached out and grabbed him just in time.
"Pirates, huh? Guess that's not a bad gig," Shin muttered with a sigh, hauling Ace back aboard. "I've spent these last few days just trying to survive. Honestly, if Garp showed up right now and offered to make me his apprentice, I might've said yes."
"If I stay with you guys," Deuce said, his eyes reflecting the sea's endless horizon, "I won't run out of stories. Let me follow you—I'll write the most epic adventure the world has ever seen."
Ace grinned, pride swelling in his chest. "Then it's decided!"
He raised a fist toward the sky.
"I hereby declare—The Spade Pirates are born! Let's charge forward together!"
The three burst into laughter, a breeze catching the sails as if to mark the start of something new.
"Different paths, same goal," Shin said, smiling as he suddenly produced his fishing rod like a magician performing a trick. "Let's see what the sea's got for us today."
Ace threw his head back and laughed. "That's the spirit!"
From that moment on, the Spade Pirates were official.
"Back when I first set out," Ace said, flames curling gently from his feet as they powered the ship, "all I wanted was to find some treasure and take down strong pirates. I thought I could make a name for myself in the East Blue. But now…"
"Let's go to the Grand Line," Shin interrupted, eyes focused on the water as he cast his line. "Whoa, wait—did something just bite?"
"Huh? You think you can fish at this speed?" Deuce asked.
"I've gotten better," Shin said smugly. "Watch and learn."
With a grunt and a pull, Shin reeled in something—not a fish, but a small, sealed box no longer than his forearm, glowing faintly with a purple hue.
[Ding! Daily task completed. Reward received.]
The familiar prompt echoed in Shin's mind. Despite catching plenty of junk with his so-called Supreme Fast Rod, the system's guarantee had always ensured at least one "catch" per day.
Fish? Rare. Weird boxes and cursed boots? All the time.
Still, it was better than nothing.
"What is that?" Ace asked, leaning over.
"Treasure?" Deuce was already flipping open his notebook, ready to record every detail.
Shin popped the lid. Inside was… a pair of flip-flops.
"...That's it?" Ace and Deuce groaned in unison.
Shin blinked. [Supreme Fast Slippers: The most durable footwear. Humble in form, unmatched in comfort.]
"Seriously? Flip-flops?" he muttered. "These better not come with athlete's foot."
Still, his old shoes were falling apart, so with a shrug, he kicked them off and slipped the new ones on.
Under a vast sky, beneath the golden sun, a small pirate ship sailed the open sea.
Though modest in size, its deck was broad enough for a dozen men. Its proud mast bore a black sail with a bold insignia: a spade-shaped crest with a grinning skull wearing a hat. One side of the brim smiled, the other frowned. Flames curled up from the top of the hat.
This was the ship of the Spade Pirates.
Since escaping Ant Nest Hell Island, the crew had clashed with several pirate groups. Some attacked on sight; others tried to trick them first. All were defeated.
Their current ship was spoils from one such skirmish.
Shin, for his part, had adjusted quickly to pirate life. He sparred with Ace whenever they had free time—well, if getting punched across the deck counted as sparring.
At first, he could only dodge or take hits. But as the days passed, he began to push back.
His Armament Haki, though still soft as soggy paper, was at least functional. And in a surprise to Ace, it even allowed him to touch Ace's fire-form.
"That's Haki for you," Ace had said, impressed. "Now I get why Luffy always screamed when Gramps punched him."
They both agreed: Garp was a nightmare teacher. He built solid foundations but explained absolutely nothing.
Thanks to the system, Shin continued getting stronger—even if he mostly fished up garbage. Between daily tasks, his growing instincts, and constant battles, he was improving steadily.
Meanwhile, Deuce had taken over as navigator, helmsman, and all-around ship guy. With two chaotic clowns for crewmates, someone had to keep the boat afloat.
Ace was strong but hopeless with anything unrelated to eating.
Shin could barbecue and had a weird talent for sensing water currents, which helped dodge a few whirlpools.
But for the most part? He was just a laid-back fisherman with an unhealthy obsession with treasure chests and roasted meat.
So Deuce ran the show. And thankfully, the East Blue's waters were calm enough that their little ship stayed on course.
Together, the Spade Pirates sailed forward—three misfits with fire in their hearts and freedom on the horizon.
