Chapter 68: Episode 68: The Battle for Balance
A Desperate Gamble
The wasteland stretched endlessly before them, the once-thriving Heartwood now reduced to ashen remains and twisted roots. The sky swirled with ominous green and black hues, pulsing with the energy Oranos had stolen. His massive, corrupted form loomed over them, his toxic gold eyes gleaming with malicious triumph.
Ren, Sakayanagi, Shigan, and Kaelen stood amidst the ruins, breathing heavily. The weight of defeat pressed against them.
But they weren't done yet.
Kaelen, voice trembling yet firm, placed a hand on Ren's back. "I can still feel it… the remnants of nature's power. It's weak, but it's still here."
Sakayanagi followed, placing her palm against Kaelen. "Then we channel it."
Shigan smirked, pressing his palm against Sakayanagi's back. "And push it forward."
A circuit of energy formed between them. Their remaining power, their very life force, flowed through one another until it converged—all directed into Ren. His eyes widened as the energy pulsed through his core, his very being charged with both shadow and nature's last will.
A deep voice echoed from within him—the whispers of his gathered shadows. "Take it. Wield it. Become the balance."
Ren clenched his fists, feeling an overwhelming surge of energy unlike anything before. His breath came in sharp gasps as his veins pulsed with a mixture of black and emerald light. His shadowy aura intertwined with the faint flickers of nature's fading strength.
He stepped forward.
Oranos smirked, unimpressed. "Still standing? I crushed the very land beneath you, and yet you persist."
Ren raised his head, his golden irises burning with defiance, his shadow aura flickering wildly, blending with the faint green energy still clinging to the land.
"I'm done listening to you."
His voice was calm, yet firm—like the wind before a storm.
Then, he vanished.
The Battle Begins
The camera would have snapped to high-speed action, focusing on the blurred motion of Ren rushing forward with shadow-infused speed. The very ground cracked beneath his launch.
Ren appears behind Oranos—
"Verdant Abyss!"
A massive black-green shockwave erupts from his palm, twisting into a spiraling vortex of shadows and raw life force. It collides with Oranos's back, sending him skidding forward, tearing through the remains of the land like a meteor impact.
Oranos barely stops himself, planting his clawed feet into the shattered earth.
The camera shifts—his expression turns from amusement to irritation.
Oranos grits his teeth. "Annoying pest."
He raises his hand—
"Nature's Wrath!"
The entire wasteland rumbles as jagged vines burst from the earth, tipped with razor-sharp thorns, all surging toward Ren like a storm of spears.
Ren dodges, twisting midair with fluid shadow-enhanced movements. The vines tearing apart the ground in rapid succession, missing Ren by inches as he weaves through the deadly barrage.
Cut to a close-up of his feet barely touching the ground before he vanishes again.
Ren reappears midair, directly above Oranos.
"Shadow Fang!"
A massive serrated, wolf-like maw made of pure darkness forms in the air, snapping down at Oranos. The corrupted being barely manages to block with a barrier of energy, but the force sends him crashing into the ruins of the Heartwood, shattering the remnants of ancient trees.
A wide shot reveals the battlefield—
Oranos erupts from the wreckage, his corruption pulsing violently.
"Enough of this—Gaia's Requiem!"
He slams his hands together, and suddenly, gravity itself distorts. The air turns thick with green and black energy, forming a colossal, swirling mass of nature's essence twisted into a weapon.
Cut to Ren—his breath visible in the tense atmosphere.
He grips his fists, shadow energy boiling around him, wrapping his arms in black flames tinged with emerald sparks.
He whispers.
"Shadow Emperor's Domain."
A shockwave erupts—black mist floods the battlefield, warping the environment itself.
For a moment—silence.
Then, Ren moves.
He launches forward, breaking the air barrier, his form flickering between shadows like a ghost.
He appears right in front of Oranos, within striking distance.
Oranos, shocked—tries to react.
Too late.
Ren's fist slams into his gut, shadow energy exploding on impact, launching Oranos skyward.
Ren leaps after him, shadows trailing behind him like wings.
He pulls back his hand, gathering everything.
A voice, deep and commanding, echoes from within Ren.
"End this."
Ren smirks. "You got it."
He whispers the name of his final attack.
"Nocturnal Genesis."
From the black mist, a thousand shadowed arms burst forward, reaching for Oranos. They seize him, dragging him toward Ren.
The camera focuses on Ren's glowing fist, charged with the combined power of his allies and the lingering nature energy.
One final shot of Oranos's panicked face.
Then—impact.
A colossal, spiraling burst of energy engulfs the battlefield.
the entire landscape is illuminated for miles, the corrupted energy torn apart in a massive explosion of light and shadow.
The dust settles.
Ren falls to his knees, exhausted, the last remnants of his shadow aura flickering.
Oranos lies motionless in the crater, his once-monstrous form beginning to crack, splintering apart like dried bark.
To be continued…
