Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Fall of the Raikage

"Minato, you're back!"

On the other side, Rasa—already furious from failing to catch up with the Raikage—spotted Minato returning with a group of shinobi and quickly flew toward him.

"This must be the current head of the Uchiha clan. Please, help me kill that man!"

Rasa no longer cared for formalities. Every second of delay could mean more Sand Shinobi lives lost.

"Got it."

Minato and Fugaku exchanged a glance and nodded.

"I'll go stall him first. You guys follow immediately!"

With that, Minato used the Flying Thunder God Technique to chase after the Raikage.

The Sand Shinobi on the battlefield, already resigned to death, suddenly saw a flash of yellow light rush toward the rampaging lightning.

Everyone was stunned.

The figure that had rampaged through their ranks without pause had finally been stopped!

"That yellow flash... Could it be the legendary Namikaze Minato?!"

"He stopped that monster by himself?"

"So... so strong!"

Minato's powerful entrance brought a sliver of hope to the Sand Shinobi.

For the first time, they truly understood the benefit of having Konoha as an ally.

No wonder it was the strongest hidden village—the one that had fought all four great villages in the last war and still stood tall.

"As expected of you, Brother Minato."

Fugaku, catching up with Rasa, couldn't help but praise him.

With strength like that—and his service as an envoy to the Sand—was he perhaps the next Hokage?

Seeing this, Rasa relaxed slightly, though his mind raced with similar thoughts.

But now wasn't the time to think about politics.

You old bastard, I finally caught you!

"Magnet Release: Gold Sand Spear!"

Rasa formed hand seals, and the surrounding gold dust condensed into spear-like constructs, shooting rapidly toward the Raikage.

"Hell Stab: Four-Finger Piercing!"

The Third Raikage blocked Minato's Flying Thunder God Kunai with one hand, unable to dodge. With his other hand, he thrust forward, piercing through the gold spears with brutal force.

Soon, the Raikage felt their momentum drop.

A chance!

"Hell Stab: Three-Finger!"

"Hell Stab: Two-Finger!"

The Raikage instantly counterattacked, driving his lightning-coated fingers forward.

He pierced through Minato and Rasa's chests—effortlessly.

...Or so it seemed.

Something was off.

The sensation of hitting flesh and cracking ribs... it all felt too real.

But his instincts screamed that it was too easy.

And then—

"Magnet Release: Gold Dust Funeral!"

A booming voice echoed from the horizon.

The ground beneath his feet collapsed, and an avalanche of gold dust surged around him, binding him in a crushing embrace.

Rasa stood with cold killing intent, arm raised.

"Die!"

He clenched his fist.

BOOM!

The gold dust reacted violently to his command, compressing all at once and triggering a powerful explosion!

Beside him, Fugaku deactivated his Sharingan. He had used genjutsu to create an illusion and give Rasa the perfect opening to activate the forbidden technique.

But Minato remained wary.

Something about this didn't sit right.

He's not dead. I can feel it.

"Hahahaha! That felt amazing! Really, I haven't had a good fight like that in years!"

A loud, gravelly laugh rang out.

As the smoke cleared, a battered but still-standing figure emerged from the crater, lightning flickering faintly around his torn form.

The Third Raikage.

Blood coated his body, and his armor dimmed—but he stood tall.

"If not for the blood and wheezing, I'd think he wasn't even hurt!" Fugaku muttered.

"Sand Shinobi, that jutsu wasn't bad," the Raikage grinned, ignoring the blood on his beard. "I haven't enjoyed a battle this much in decades."

He looked toward Fugaku.

"A brat from the Uchiha clan who managed to trick me? Not bad."

And then to Minato.

"You... You kept up with me. You must be Sarutobi's pick for the next Hokage, right?"

His voice lowered slightly, almost wistful.

"Konoha really is full of monsters..."

His tone held a mix of admiration and frustration.

The Land of Fire had always been the most prosperous—richest in resources, best in climate, and unmatched in shinobi talent.

But why? he thought bitterly.

Why does Konoha always get everything?

His dream had always been to raise Kumogakure's power to match or surpass Konoha's, to one day seize the Fire Country and its riches.

During the Second Shinobi War, however, Konoha crushed that dream.

One village... against four... and it still came out on top.

And now?

Konoha's reinforcements had ruined everything again.

Cloud Shinobi suffered massive casualties.

And worst of all, now he could see it clearly:

Minato.

A symbol of Konoha's future.

So bright, so untouchable.

Unacceptable!

If fate loves Konoha so much, then I'll destroy its future myself!

"Raaaaahh!!"

An overwhelming, destructive aura burst from the Raikage.

He activated the ultimate technique passed down only through generations of Raikage—a forbidden jutsu that released all bodily limits.

By overstimulating every cell with overclocked lightning chakra, he pushed beyond all limits.

The cost: total destruction of the body. No Raikage could ever use it twice.

"Hell Stab: Four-Finger!"

Minato barely reacted in time, blinking away with Flying Thunder God.

"Hell Stab: Three-Finger!"

"Hell Stab: Two-Finger!"

The Raikage continued attacking in rapid succession, chasing Minato with terrifying speed.

Too fast! Even Flying Thunder God had its limits—there was always a minuscule delay between thoughts and action.

And now—

"Hell Stab: One-Finger!"

The Raikage burned all his remaining chakra, boosting his speed to the max.

His body vanished—pure motion and lightning.

Minato saw it too late.

Too close! No time to dodge!

THUNK!

A sickening sound echoed.

The Raikage looked down.

A silver-haired boy now stood between him and Minato—his arm driven through the child's chest.

Kakashi.

He grinned through bloodstained teeth.

"Y'know, stabbing kids is generally frowned upon... even for war-hardened pensioners like yourself."

The Raikage growled, "Where did this brat come from?!"

"From the academy. Top marks in sarcasm and suicidal bravery," Kakashi coughed.

He slammed a palm against the Raikage's chest.

"Seal!"

A jolt of chakra surged through the Raikage's body.

His chakra network froze. Lightning armor vanished.

Before he could react, Kakashi kicked off the Raikage's chest, yanking himself free.

Minato didn't waste the chance.

"Flying Thunder God Slash!"

SWOOSH!

A golden flash cut through the Raikage's chest.

He staggered... looked down at the gaping wound.

His heart—destroyed.

He stumbled back, still in disbelief.

So this... is it.

Ai... The village is yours now.

Father… I'm coming.

His body finally slumped, and the Third Raikage breathed his last.
