Chapter 37: Chapter 37: End of the Yunsha Battle
"Kakashi!"
Rin, rushing onto the battlefield, suddenly burst forward with everything she had.
Minato, who had just brought down the Third Raikage, didn't spare a glance at the body. In a flash, he appeared beside Kakashi.
"Rin, how is he?"
Minato—usually calm, confident, and composed—now showed rare urgency. If Kakashi hadn't risked his life to protect him, he could've been gravely injured… or worse.
Rin didn't reply. Instead, she knelt beside Kakashi, ripped open his flak jacket and shirt, and gasped.
The wound on Kakashi's right chest was horrifying—his internal organs were visible, and blood soaked his entire torso.
Her heart twisted.
Rin took a deep breath, pushed down her panic, and immediately poured her chakra into a Healing Jutsu.
"Hiss—!"
"Ack—hey, doc, easy! That's my favorite lung you're jabbing."
Kakashi tried to crack a grin, then coughed—hard. The movement made sharp pain stab through his chest, and he coughed up blood.
Rin's hands trembled.
Still, she kept healing. Silent tears rolled down her cheeks.
"You know, this isn't how I imagined getting you to touch my chest," Kakashi rasped, his lips twitching. "But hey, I'll take what I can get."
"You idiot!" Rin cried out, tears flowing freely now.
"You forgot I've got that fancy [Mitotic Regeneration Technique], remember?" Kakashi grinned, though his face was pale.
The truth was, he hadn't even had time to activate it earlier. Blocking the Raikage's attack had been pure reflex—he was lucky he didn't get his head turned into paste.
Now, seeing Rin like this, he quickly released the seal.
The diamond mark on his forehead lit up. Lines of chakra bloomed across his face, and his injuries began to close rapidly.
Soon, his chest was healed—good as new.
"Ta-da! Miracle medicine: just add chakra," Kakashi said, flexing his arm dramatically.
Rin ignored him, checking his body again, head to toe, with clinical urgency.
Then—
Smack.
Before he could react, Rin hugged him tightly, burying her face in his shoulder.
"Idiot! Idiot! Idiot!"
"Why are you always so stubborn?! That was the Raikage! What if—what if you died?!"
"Do you even care how scared I was?"
Her sobs echoed in his ears.
Kakashi, wide-eyed at first, slowly relaxed. He gently patted her back, soft and cautious, as though holding something irreplaceable.
Nearby, Obito clenched his fists.
Then released them.
Clenched again.
And finally... let go.
"Ahem... not to interrupt this beautifully awkward teenage love confession," Minato teased with a smile, "but this is still a battlefield."
His voice was light, but his eyes were full of warmth. The scene reminded him of his early days with Kushina.
Not to mention... Rin had trained under Lady Tsunade, and now had comparable super strength.
Poor Kakashi. Minato suddenly felt a deep sense of camaraderie.
"Ah!"
Rin squealed and pulled away, blushing furiously and hiding her face.
"Heh..." Kakashi scratched his head, then stood up and adjusted his flak jacket with a practiced tug.
His eyes drifted to the fallen Raikage.
Rasa, Fugaku, and the others—who had been watching the drama unfold—turned serious again.
"Since the Third Raikage was defeated by you and your team, this body is yours," Rasa said, glancing at Minato. "You may take it."
In this war, Konoha's reinforcements had turned the tide. Without them, Sand Shinobi might have been wiped out.
Letting Konoha handle the Raikage's remains was both fair... and convenient.
Besides, possessing the corpse of a Kage meant also inheriting the wrath of his village.
Though Sand had technically won, their losses were severe. Rasa had no interest in provoking Kumogakure further.
Minato nodded, accepting silently. He produced a sealing scroll and stored the Raikage's body inside.
Seeing the matter concluded, he prepared to depart.
Despite Rasa's attempts to convince them to stay longer, Minato declined politely.
The group gathered to leave.
"Kakashi-senpai! Obito-senpai! Rin-nee! Long time no see!"
A familiar voice called out.
"Shisui? You're here too?" Kakashi blinked in surprise.
Uchiha Shisui approached with a smile. Kakashi's former rival in the Chūnin Exams, the two had developed mutual respect after many private sparring sessions.
"Yes, the clan head brought out the elite, and I was lucky enough to tag along," Shisui said sheepishly.
"To be fair," Kakashi said, "you're more 'elite' than half the Jonin here."
Shisui looked flustered. "I-I don't think I deserve that…"
"You're being modest again," Kakashi smirked. "Typical."
He glanced at Obito, who had been quiet the entire walk.
"Something up with Senpai Obito?" Shisui asked, tilting his head. "He's been quiet this whole time."
"Huh?" Obito blinked, clearly lost in thought. "Oh, uh… nothing. Probably just the heat."
He forced a laugh. Nobody bought it.
"Anyway!" Kakashi said, stepping between them quickly. "Shisui, I've picked up some new combat tricks. Let's exchange notes later."
He knew exactly what Shisui was about to ask.
And as the person involved, he was the last one who should be comforting Obito right now.
Because love… love was complicated.
In the original timeline, Kakashi had blamed himself for Obito's "death," and rejected Rin's feelings out of guilt.
The tragedy that followed had pushed the entire world toward chaos.
Not again.
Kakashi clenched his fist behind his back.
This time, I'll protect Rin.
If anyone wants to hurt her…
They'll have to go through me first.
Even if it's Uchiha Madara.
