Chapter 42: Chapter 42: Winds of Rōran – Naruto Meets Minato!
"The light rising from the heights of Rōran"
"Mixed feelings"
"The Dragon Vein must be protected"
"Blades are shooting at me, look up at the sky"
"Dust and storms are coming"
"The dazzling sun"
"Flowers are flying and beautiful"
The yellow-haired boy who was huddled in the ruins was awakened by a melodious song.
He turned over to lie flat on his back and gradually opened his bright, blue eyes.
Looking at the unfamiliar environment in front of him, he was a little confused.
However, he was soon drawn by the slightly sad singing and stood up, walking toward the sound.
Then, he saw a young girl with dark red hair, a pink long-sleeved top, black shorts, and black stockings, sitting on a giant rock among the ruins, singing softly.
If you looked closely, you'd notice two streams of tears running down her cheeks. Whatever weighed on her heart, it was enough to pour out in song.
"Hey, where is this place?"
Finally seeing a living person, the boy couldn't wait to ask.
Startled, the girl turned her head, looked at him, and then jumped down from the rock, bolting toward an exit in the ruins.
"Hey, wait!"
He gave chase, but at the exit, two strangely shaped puppets appeared.
"What the heck?"
Before he could react, the puppets raised their hands from beneath their black cloaks.
Flashes of purple light sparked at their fingertips—kunai shot out in a barrage!
The boy dodged backward, narrowly avoiding the attack.
Just as he tried to follow the girl, a mechanism triggered, and three layers of heavy stone doors slammed down in succession, sealing the exit.
"What is going on..."
He was completely thrown off by the unfolding chaos.
Just moments ago, he had been engulfed in a massive burst of energy—and when he woke up, he was here.
"Ugh! This has to be Baizu's fault!"
But as a seasoned ninja, he didn't panic in the face of the unknown.
Instead, he used the light filtering through the five holes above to examine his surroundings calmly.
It looked like he was inside a hundred-meter-high tower. But where exactly, he couldn't tell.
No choice—he had to get out and figure out the rest later.
With that, the boy leapt into action, scaling the stone walls using cracks for footing.
After a dozen leaps, he reached the top floor.
"Here...?!"
Breaking through the glass and jumping out, he landed on a lawn.
Wait a second—was I underground this whole time?
As he looked up, he was stunned.
Hexagonal towers loomed above, stretching into the sky—structures unlike anything he'd seen in all his travels.
Despite having seen much of the shinobi world, this ancient, exotic architecture left him in awe.
"Incredible... So high!"
He shielded his eyes from the dazzling sun and tried to take in more of the surreal view.
"Huh?"
A black dot appeared in the sky—then split into four.
They were puppets—and they were flying!
Before he could piece together what was going on, the four puppets landed and surrounded him.
Zzzzz!
One extended a meat grinder-like blade from its right arm, while another charged an energy beam in its left hand.
"What the—!?"
The boy somersaulted forward, narrowly avoiding the dual assault.
But they weren't done—their belts glowed, and dozens of kunai glowing with purple chakra shot toward him!
Bang!
"Shadow Clone Jutsu!"
Forming the Tiger hand seal mid-air, he unleashed a flurry of clones that intercepted the incoming kunai.
Puppets—definitely!
The boy flipped, chakra flowing into his feet as he latched onto a high beam, hanging upside-down.
He noticed something.
Each puppet had a chakra thread running behind it.
That's the power source!
Reaching into his pouch, he pulled out a custom-made Flying Thunder God Kunai, forged by his father.
As he gathered chakra into his palm, the kunai pulsed with a deep blue glow.
"Ha!"
With a powerful leap, he soared above one of the puppets and sliced clean through its chakra thread.
The puppet sputtered and crashed to the ground instantly.
The other three abruptly scattered, dodging and adapting.
Their facial plates flipped open, revealing glowing barrels aimed directly at him.
Boom!
A purple beam tore through the earth beneath him—he was hit square and plunged into a collapsed cavern.
Debris fell with him, dust filling the air.
As the smoke cleared, the boy groaned and pushed himself up.
"Oww... that's gonna leave a mark."
His combat uniform was shredded, and a bloody gash across his left knee exposed bone.
"Not again..."
Shadows loomed overhead—three more puppets dropped into the cavern.
Their eyes scanned him, then unleashed another hail of kunai!
At that exact moment, a masked, yellow-haired man appeared beside him, wrapped an arm around him, and vanished in a blink!
"Partial Expansion Jutsu!"
Nearby, a towering man with long, dark red hair expanded his right arm to an enormous size, smashing a puppet against the wall with a single slap. The machine crumpled like paper.
"Insect Sphere Jutsu."
Another ninja in black—clearly the giant's teammate—spread his arms, releasing a swarm of black insects from under his cloak.
The cloud of insects engulfed the remaining puppet. Within seconds, its chakra drained completely, and it dropped lifelessly from the air.
The boy, now safe, stared wide-eyed at the three newcomers who had so effortlessly handled the threat.
"Who were those puppets?!"
He asked the masked man, still catching his breath.
"They've been enhanced by the Dragon Vein's chakra," the blond man answered coolly.
Wait a minute...
That voice—why does it sound so familiar?
"Hey... who are you?"
The boy squinted, his gaze sharp.
The masked man looked at him and replied, "You're from Konoha, right? So are we."
He pulled off the mask.
"Wha—?!!"
"Dad?! Dad?!"
Staring back at him was the young, handsome face of Minato Namikaze—the Fourth Hokage.
What... what the hell is going on!?
Meanwhile, leaning against a crumbled pillar nearby, arms crossed, a silver-haired shinobi sighed.
"Y'know, for ancient puppets, they really put up a fight. I mean—who designed these things, and where can I send my complaint letter?"
"Kakashi…" Rin murmured as she healed the boy's leg.
"What? I'm just saying—next time maybe let's not vacation near cursed chakra hotspots, okay?"
Obito rolled his eyes while Kakashi casually flicked a kunai into the air.
"Great. Giant death robots, ancient towers, mystery time warps... Yep. Just another Tuesday."
