Chapter 59: Chapter 59: Storm Breaks
"Hokage-sama, all the intelligence on the Rock Shinobi is here."
Inside the Hokage's office, Sarutobi Hiruzen accepted the scroll from the ANBU and unrolled it with deliberate care.
This was high-priority intel—smuggled out from Iwagakure by one of Konoha's deep-cover spies, who had risked everything to send it back.
Ever since Iwagakure was placed under sudden martial law, Konoha's agents knew something was wrong. To get this scroll out, three elite teams were wiped out.
Now, only a few bloodstained words remained on the parchment.
Sarutobi Hiruzen read them again. And again.
The new Fourth Raikage, A, had met with Third Tsuchikage Ōnoki and Fourth Mizukage Yagura. The result? A three-way alliance to besiege Konoha.
The atmosphere in the office grew thick with tension. Smoke curled above the Hokage's desk. Beneath it, expressions hardened into grim resolve.
Even the masked ANBU standing silently nearby began to sweat.
Finally, the Third Hokage exhaled and spoke solemnly.
"Summon the two advisors... and Danzo. Emergency council, now."
"Yes!"
Later that evening — Konoha Barbecue Restaurant
"Cheers!"
In the private room, laughter filled the air as Rin, Obito, Guy, Shisui, Kurenai, Asuma, and others clinked cups and celebrated Kakashi's promotion to Jōnin.
"Today's Kakashi's night, so this one's on me!" said Asuma, grinning confidently. "Don't even try to argue."
Being the Hokage's son—and a frequent customer—Asuma had a diamond membership that knocked 30% off the bill.
"Wait, didn't we agree to split the cost?" Obito asked, confused. He'd even cracked open his piggy bank for this.
"Yeah, that's not fair," Rin added, frowning. As the one who organized the party, she wasn't about to let Asuma foot the bill solo.
"Let him have it," Kurenai said, smirking as she rolled her ruby-red eyes at Asuma. "He basically lives here anyway."
Asuma scratched his head and gave a sheepish grin in response.
With that settled, everyone began presenting their gifts.
"Here, Kakashi!" Guy was the first, thrusting a very familiar green one-piece training suit into his hands. "Wear this so we can BURN WITH YOUTH together!"
Kakashi accepted it politely. Internally?
Yeah, no. That thing's a war crime in fabric form. Not even under genjutsu.
Next was Shisui. "This is a backup scroll of my clan's Great Fireball Technique. Hope it helps."
B-rank Fire Style? Now that was a gift. Shisui definitely made Kakashi's "not annoying" list.
Too bad Kakashi had already copied it from the elephant scrolls. But hey—he could re-gift it to Obito and look generous.
Then came Asuma.
"This kunai's custom-made from the Land of Artisans. Contains chakra-conductive metal. Figured it'd come in handy for Flying Thunder God-type stuff."
Kakashi nodded appreciatively.
Chakra-conductive metals weren't just expensive—they were legendary. Some could channel chakra, others could absorb it, even self-repair. No wonder blades like Tobirama's Raijin or the Seven Ninja Swords were so feared.
Hokage's kid flexing hard tonight. Respect.
One by one, the rest offered their carefully chosen gifts. Kakashi thanked them all with calm sincerity.
Only Obito hadn't brought his yet. "It's not ready," he mumbled, a bit embarrassed. "I'll bring it in a few days."
Kakashi smiled. He wasn't worried.
Rin had already given her present earlier—a neatly packed personal medical kit she handed him when they were alone. He now wore it clipped to his belt.
Soon, the savory scent of grilled meat filled the room. The cheerful chaos even drew the attention of Akimichi Chōza, owner of BBQ Q.
When he heard the party was for Kakashi's Jōnin promotion, Chōza—who had been on missions with Kakashi before—grinned and waved a generous hand.
"Meal's on me tonight!"
Asuma sighed in relief. A big discount just became a full freebie.
The mood hit its peak—laughter, food, drinks, more laughter.
Until—
"Akimichi Chōza, the Hokage has summoned you."
A masked ANBU agent appeared at the door, serious.
"Understood. I'll head over immediately."
Chōza nodded to the group. "Eat well, enjoy yourselves."
As he exited briskly, Kakashi's smile faded.
He narrowed his eyes slightly.
Just promoted... and already one of the big clan leaders is summoned by the Hokage?
That was no coincidence.
He said nothing, enjoying the rest of the evening calmly. But after everyone else left and he walked Rin home, Kakashi didn't return directly.
Instead, he strolled the village alone, hands in pockets, pretending to be casual.
Nothing screams "something's off" like ninja-owned shops closing early...
As he passed the commercial district, he noted shuttered windows and sealed entrances. Clan compounds like the Uchiha, Hyūga, and the Ino–Shika–Chō all had internal lights burning late.
Even the Nara were gathering—those guys don't even like standing up unless it's life or death.
Yup. We're definitely doing this again.
Kakashi sighed, glancing up at the moonlit sky.
The war... it's coming.Fantastic. And I just bought new sandals.
