Chapter 62: Chapter 62: Touch Rin, You Die

The next morning, deep in the bamboo forest.

"We'll split into two teams here. Everyone, stay sharp and give it your best."

Minato paused, preparing to part ways.

"Yesterday's scouts were just recon. Today will be real combat. Be careful."

"Yes!" the three answered in unison.

They dispersed instantly, each team moving with speed and precision.

Minato's speed was blinding, while Kakashi's team charged ahead toward their target, moving at full tilt.

Along the way, they encountered multiple ambushes—but Kakashi's sharp instincts kicked in early, allowing them to spot and eliminate threats before they became problems.

By evening, after a full day of running and skirmishing, they slowed down and began moving more cautiously through the dark forest.

"Kakashi, I'll admit it—you're insanely strong," Obito muttered.

"But we're still a team. You could at least leave something for me to punch."

Having survived several tight situations, Obito was finally loosening up. He looked almost eager now—not to watch, but to fight.

"I've got no problem with that," Kakashi replied lazily, his eyes still scanning the terrain. "Was just trying to save time, that's all."

He glanced back. "If you're so eager, I'll hold off next time and let you go in first—heads up!"

Before the sentence finished, a row of sharpened bamboo spears dropped from above.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

At the same time, a short, wiry Iwagakure ninja leapt up from the brush and hurled a flurry of shuriken toward them.

"Fire Style: Great Fireball Jutsu!"

A massive fireball exploded from Obito's mouth, incinerating the falling bamboo in a wave of heat and smoke.

"Nice shot, Obito!"

Kakashi intercepted every shuriken mid-air, flicking them aside like a bored cashier scanning barcodes. "You earned this one. He's all yours—don't blow it."

"Heh, don't worry, Captain!"

Obito cracked his knuckles, joints popping. "I've been waiting for this!"

Kakashi smirked. Kid finally gets his moment. About time.

Not that this Rock chump can land a hit with me around, but sure—training wheels on.

Unseen by any of them, another Iwa-nin was crouched behind a thick tree, his face twisted into a grin.

"Ninja Art: Camouflage Concealment Technique."

His chakra signature blurred as he melted into the surroundings, completely hidden.

Suddenly—a scream.

"Ahhh!"

Rin's voice.

Kakashi and Obito whipped around.

A new Iwa-nin stood behind them, grinning cruelly. Rin dangled in his grip, unconscious.

"We'll be taking her," he sneered.

With a puff of smoke and a flick of his wrist, he vanished—along with the thin Iwa-nin Obito had been about to fight.

"Damn it!" Obito bolted, only to be caught by Kakashi's outstretched arm.

"Why are you stopping me?!"

"They took Rin for a reason. She's a medical ninja—they want intel, not a corpse. That means she's alive."

Kakashi's tone turned lethal.

"I marked her with Flying Thunder God. If they lay a finger on her…"

His voice dropped to a whisper. "I'll kill them all."

Obito's anger ebbed. He knew Kakashi wouldn't gamble with Rin's life.

"Let's go. If we move fast, they won't even know we're tailing them."

They vanished into the trees, chasing silently through the shadows.

An hour later

"Found it."

Kakashi came to a stop, crouching low.

Ahead, nestled beneath the mountain, was a wide cave entrance nearly ten meters tall.

"Huff... We've got this," Obito whispered, slapping his cheeks with both hands—smack!

Kakashi winced. "Seriously?"

That pop echoed like a shout in a graveyard.

Inside the cave, Rin was tied to a stake. The short Iwa-nin from earlier stood before her, weaving illusion techniques to force information.

Around them, over a dozen Rock ninja lounged or rested—cleaning weapons, sharpening blades.

Then came the pop.

Someone stirred. "We've got company."

The burly Iwa-nin who had taken Rin stood and disappeared into the forest using his camouflage.

Outside, Kakashi placed a hand on Obito's shoulder.

"I was gonna sneak in."

"But since you blew our stealth with your impromptu percussion solo... screw it. We go loud."

Before Obito could reply, Kakashi's eyes narrowed.

Obito vanished and reappeared behind Rin.

"What the—?!"

"Untie her. Guard her," Kakashi said, lightning crackling in his palm. "I'll handle pest control."

The Iwa-nin illusionist blinked—then died. Kakashi's hand was already inside his chest.

"…One," he muttered coldly.

Shouts erupted.

"Kill him!"

"Get the brat!"

Kakashi tilted his head. "You sure? I charge per corpse."

He hurled marked shuriken across the cave.

Flash.

He vanished.

"Two."

A ninja forming seals suddenly collapsed, spine bent the wrong way.

"Three."

An earth jutsu user raised a massive boulder—Kakashi blew through it with a smirk and a Chidori.

"Rock beats scissors. But lightning beats dumb."

"Four."

Another raised a wall.

"Five." Kakashi appeared behind it.

A dome of swirling clay descended.

"Cool trick. I brought anti-dust."

"Six."

"Seven."

Kakashi danced through them like a ghost with a grudge, each kill punctuated by numbers and the glint of kunai.

One charged with a scream.

"You're yelling at a ghost, genius."

"Eight."

Another tried a sneak attack.

"Boo."

"Nine."

Only one was left—trembling, blood dripping down his chin.

"You… you monster!"

Kakashi walked toward him, flicked his Chidori off with a lazy sigh.

"Monster? Nah. I'm the mid-boss. You don't want to meet the guy I'm avenging."

He drew a kunai.

"Wait—!"

Slash.

"Ten."

Silence fell. The cave reeked of ozone and fear.

He turned to Rin—freed now, breathing—but pale.

Kakashi's face softened, just a little.

"You okay?"

She nodded, still shaken.

Obito's Sharingan flashed.

"Kakashi—behind you!"
