Keeping the Promise After Rebirth

Chapter 9: Chapter 9: She Wanted A Divorce

Mo Shian had made a promise to himself that he would marry Weiwei once she grew up, love her, protect her, and give her the world so that she would never feel sad again.

He had fulfilled his promise of marrying her by convincing his grandpa to arrange their marriage, but sadly, he could not seem to fulfill the rest. He had treated her the best he could, but he still could not understand what went wrong.

The first four months of their marriage had been good. She had been shy at first and it took them three weeks to consummate their marriage, but once the deed was done, she had become more active in their marriage and everything was fine. He had even started dreaming of having a baby after another year once she turned twenty.

But now, he didn't know what to do.

She had started to behave weirdly two months ago. Accusing him of not loving her and using her to keep his position as the CEO of Mo Corporation. He couldn't understand any of it because God knows how much he loved her.

He had tried treating her even better, but that only seemed to make things worse. She started treating him like air and wouldn't talk to him even when they ate at the same table and slept on the same bed.

Then Xinya had come to see him and suggested he move out of the bedroom to give Weiwei some space. He had thought it made sense and moved to the guestroom. But he was almost going crazy because he literally couldn't sleep at night without holding her in his arms.

They felt empty and uncomfortable, and so did his heart.

He wanted to hold her so much and make love to her, but he couldn't even say a few words to her before she snapped. He had resulted in sneaking into their bedroom at night to watch her while she slept and steal a few pecks then leave before she woke up in the morning. He hadn't slept well for two weeks since he moved out of their bedroom and it was taking a toll on him.

He still refused to believe the information Xinya had given him. She had said that Weiwei had a lover and was causing problems because she wanted a divorce so she could elope with him. He may not know a lot about women, since Weiwei was his first and only woman, but he knew she would not cheat on him.

He trusted her and believed that whatever the issue was, they would eventually resolve it. He just didn't know when.

Unbeknownst to him, Weiwei had broken his trust and asked for a divorce in their previous life, even though it was not to be with a lover. The issue had also not been resolved even until their deaths.

Mo Shian was brought back from his thoughts by a knock on the door. He walked back to his desk and sat down before he gave his permission.

"Come in." The door was pushed open and in walked his personal assistant, Joel, with a tablet in his hand.

"Sir, your 3:00 PM meeting with the financial department is starting in ten minutes and the CEO of Lishen called to confirm your dinner appointment with him tonight." Informed Joel.

"What did you tell CEO Lishen?" asked Mo Shian.

"I informed him that something important had come up and you had to cancel. The dinner will be rescheduled." Said Joel, who already knew that his boss was not going to dinner while his wife was sick at home.

"That's good, prepare for the meeting, then when it ends I am going home." Said Mo Shian as he took the file that had been sitting on his desk since he came back from his meeting with CEO Clinton. He had to read and sign the documents before going to the meeting with the financial department.

Joel turned and left to go to the conference room and prepare for the meeting while Mo Shian concentrated on the file.

When Joel walked into the conference room he heard a few voices complaining about how hard it had been working for Mo Corporation for the last two months. One of the employees was complaining in a loud voice.

"What is wrong with the boss nowadays? He has been even more unbearable than before the rumors of his marriage surfaced. He used to be strict but this has become a nightmare."

"You are lucky all you got was a scolding. I was asked to re-write my last report three times before it was approved." Another employee chipped in.

"Everyone here is lucky, otherwise you would all face the same fate as Jenny. She got fired. So, all of you had better work hard and stop complaining" said the finance department manager.

When Joel heard all the complaints he couldn't help but shake his head. Boss had been in a bad mood for a while now and he had also been working like his life depended on it. Anyone could tell that he was going through something troublesome, but these lazy people keep making low-level mistakes that only make the boss angry. Yet they had the cheek to complain. He cleared his throat, thus, attracting the attention of all the executives in the meeting room.

"The boss will be here in a few minutes, instead of whining about how your life has become miserable just because you no longer laze around, why don't you go through your presentations one more time to make sure you don't end up angering him," Joel suggested.

"Joel, can you tell us what's happening to the boss? Why has he become like the devil recently? Did something happen?" the employee who had written a report three times asked curiously. Everyone else stopped what they were doing and looked at Joel with expectant eyes.

"Instead of worrying about whether something has happened to the boss, you should worry about what will happen to you if you make another mistake like the last time." Replied Joel as he moved to the seat on the right side of the head of the table.
