Chapter 12: The Battle of Sanyou(8)

I felt my instincts scream at me, as I barely leaned down against my horse, as a glaive swung over my head, cleaving off some hair on my horses head.

I quickly rose, slashing the hostile through the neck with one hand, as my eyes found the battleground again.

Over in Wei´s Vanguard HQ, Shin and Ou Hon were still fighting, but looking towards the enemy reinforcements about to arrive, I knew they´d be forced to halt said fighting soon.

So even with our arrival, they couldn´t kill the man.

However, I turned my eyes back to the current Battlefield.

Almost all of the 700 Wei Troopers had been obliterated, but we had suffered casualties. The 380-man unit had been reduced to merely 150 now. However, with the timely interruption of Mou Ten a few minutes ago, with his 400 troops, we had finally finished them off.

Additionally, my cavalry had been running small charges on the Wei reinforcements, and this Battlefield, harassing the enemy at all times. And with their General gone, they couldn´t form proper reinforcements for the battlefield I fought on, and struggled with Shin and Ou Hon´s fight.

However, they had formed them now, and were moving on towards Shin and Ou Hon, which meant we had to get out of here.

I turned towards Ishiro, to see him breathing heavily. He and I had fought for close to 20 minutes constantly, fighting against mainly infantry and some officers.

I had taken out another 1000 man-commander, while he had taken out 2 of them, I don't know why they had so many Commanders here, but they had gotten some reinforcements from the reserve Commanders, although only some small elites.

"Raise the flag." I said, turning towards one of the only Ginryu Tai soldiers with me.

The man nodded, raising the flag high. Which was the signal for my men to mobilise.

And at the same time, Mou Ten approached me. Followed by his ever loyal right hand. They both seemed exhausted, as exhausted as myself and Ishiro, if not more. But that made sense as well.

"Mou Ten, how is it going?" I asked the man as he approached me, taking a look at the soldiers all around me. The Wei had finally been killed off and the officers were reorganising their units, which was taking some time.

"We've lost half our force, we have about 400 men left, and all of whom are lightly or mildly injured." He said.

"I should have about 250 or so men left, we've been on the move, not getting bogged down, meaning we have about 650 men here." I said and Mou Ten nodded.

"Ye, now we've just got to get Shin out of there." He said, as the dust kicked up by the reinforcements was seen, Shin's men wouldn't hold on for long.

That's when Kyou Kai and one of Ou Hon's Lieutenants approached us.

"We have 90 men left." Kyou Kai said.

"And we have 60." The Lieutenant said.

Oh, so the Gyoku Hou took larger losses than the Hi Shin Unit, but I suppose that makes sense due to their previous battles. And that made 800 in total.

I also spotted my 3 units heading towards us, in the distance.

"Alrighty, let's head off then. My unit will meet us mid-charge." I said, as I turned my horse, and with a nod from Mou Ten. We set off, as I rode beside Mou Ten.

"You know the strategy, we just have to create an opening for Shin and Ou Hon to slip out." Mou Ten said, and I nodded.

"I know, should we use the wedge formation?" I asked Mou Ten as we rode.

"Yeah, with Kyou Kai and Ishiro´s might, we'd gain from the tip of the wedge, and it'll provide necessary morale for the remaining troops." Mou Ten said, and I nodded. Letting Ishiro and Kyou Kai ride to the front, as Mou Ten and I formed up behind them.

At the same time, my 3 cavalry units caught up to us, and began merging with the wedge, as Roku, Mozu and Kaen rode up to me.

"Commander." All 3 of them said in unison.

"It´s good to have ya´ll back, what's your estimated losses?" I asked them, mid-ride.

"Sir, I've lost about 25 men." Kaen said.

"I've lost 15." Roku said, most likely due to him being an actual cavalry commander.

"I´ve lost 30." Mozu said finally, and I quickly calculated it.

So out of the original 285, we've lost about 70 men after splitting, and around 10 while we were one unit. So we've got about 205 men left, little over 200 men.

"So we have a total of 750 then." I said out loud, and Mou Ten sighed, it was lower than we wanted. But only by 50, so I suppose it's fine.

"Alright, let´s hurry up." Mou Ten said, as Ishiro led the way towards Shin and Hon´s battle.

Their duel, or 2v1 was surrounded by troops on either side, the Qin troops holding a defensive circle, while the Wei Forces were rushing them, attempting to clear them out.

They were holding on for dear life, but Hon was too wounded to fight anymore, so it was just Shin against Rin Kon.

Just in time for me to see Shin jump high into the air, and cutting through Rin Ko´s defense, cutting a tendon in his arm, which immobilised his left hand.

If I'm correct, this should be the end of their duel.

And just at that time, Ishiro and Kyou Kai smashed into the Wei Lines from behind, slaughtering their way through the troops.

I rode to the front as I drew my sword, and joined the fray, slashing left and right. Through heads, armours and spears. Killing left and right, bloodying my clothes and hair as I rode forward.

Eventually, we reached the Qin Lines, only to see Shin being dragged onto a horse by one of his men, as Ou Hon held the Wei men back, and Rin Ko was still alive.

So they couldn´t kill Rin even now, when they had been given some extra time.

"ALRIGHT MEN! RETREAT, COVER THE HI SHIN AND GYOKU HOU FORCES!" I shouted as all the horsemen turned their horses around as we bolted out, shifting the exhausted Gyoku Hou and Hi Shin forces into the middle of the wedge.

As Kyou Kai, Kaen, Hozu, Roku, Ishiro and Soo Suuii led from the front, as we quickly escaped the encirclement of the Wei Forces.

However, as much of a victory it was to wound the commanding-general, Rin Ko. I knew we paid a heavy price for it, and I had yet to see how the infantry handled it all. So we'd need to be careful.
