Konoha: The King of Souls from Uchiha

Chapter 79: CHAPTER 79

c79: Three Magatama Sharingan

Four days later, at precisely three in the morning.

It was deep into the night. The sky was swallowed in silence as wind and snow blanketed Konoha, now slumbering under winter's breath. Only the rotating squads of Chūnin and Tokubetsu Jōnin on duty remained active throughout the village.

Within the Uchiha district, Gen Uchiha lay in his bedding, eyes gently shut—not in slumber, but in controlled mental descent. Through the tethered link of his fragmented soul network, his consciousness projected directly into his hidden research facility nestled beyond Konoha's bounds.

Originally, the powers of the Soul-Soul no Mi bore two critical limitations. First, if the target lacked fear, their soul could not be extracted. Second, users couldn't telepathically issue commands to Homies nor communicate with split souls across distances due to the lack of a true spiritual signal relay.

But Gen had long since circumvented this problem through mastering the Yamanaka Clan's Spiritualization Technique (Shintenshin no Jutsu)—a jutsu designed to transmit consciousness between bodies and communicate from afar. By weaving it into his soul-manipulating ability, he created a feedback loop allowing him to relay directives and consciousness through Homies.

The four bodies he had occupied belonged to missing-nin from various border skirmishes and were reanimated into functional Homies. With even one-eighth of his soul imbued in them, these puppets mimicked the cognitive and emotional range of actual shinobi.

Still, for experimental milestones concerning Uchiha evolution, only Gen's core consciousness could ensure results were accurate.

Under bright white chakra-powered lights in the eastern chamber of the underground facility, Puppet #1 entered the laboratory while Puppets #2 through #4 stood on alert outside.

Puppet #1 initiated the testing phase by affixing specialized probes to Uchiha Yuichi. These were not standard medical tools, but re-engineered Yamanaka neural tracing equipment—originally used for memory extraction and genjutsu analysis. Some devices were scavenged from a former Root blacksite, while others were illegally imported via Amegakure intermediaries.

After being water-deprived and starved for nearly four days, Yuichi's body was frail, and his chakra reserves dangerously low. Still, the jolt of cold metal against his skull made him shudder awake.

"You... what are you... doing?" he mumbled, voice hoarse, barely clinging to lucidity.

Puppet #1 offered no reply. Instead, it methodically inserted neural sensors and chakra flow readers into contact points along Yuichi's scalp and neck. Yuichi's hair had been shaved—standard operating procedure, facilitating faster, cleaner setup.

Once complete, Puppet #1 silently exited, resealing the door behind it.

Exhausted, Yuichi slumped forward. He no longer had the energy to resist.

Three minutes passed before the four puppets returned. After synchronizing their chakra signatures, they simultaneously activated a modified multi-caster Genjutsu. The jutsu—a twisted derivative of the C-rank Hell Viewing Technique (Naraku no Jutsu)—was repurposed by Gen to suppress logical faculties and emotional moderation. It didn't force hallucinations; it made victims dismiss clues and internal contradictions.

"Hey, wake up."

A sharp slap echoed, jarring Yuichi. His mind swam back to reality with effort.

"Kill... just kill me," he growled weakly, his pride refusing to give the enemy any satisfaction.

"We won't kill you," Puppet #1 responded coolly. "But we brought you... company."

Through blurry eyes, Yuichi strained to see. His vision cleared just enough to make out a trembling child—around eight years old, short, pudgy, in an orange civilian jacket. Her mouth gagged, tears streaming from terrified eyes.

"Sister…?" he gasped, his voice breaking. "Why are you… why are you here?"

"Let her go! She's innocent!"

Puppet #1 sneered. "Our Kirigakure contacts had a spy embedded in the Land of Fire. He was compromised retrieving this... asset."

"It's said," he continued coldly, "that when an Uchiha experiences the trauma of losing their closest bonds, their Sharingan evolves. We're here to see if legend becomes reality."

"No! Please! I—"

But the girl's fate was sealed. Without hesitation, Puppets #2 and #3 moved—one sliced her throat, the other pierced her heart with precise shinobi efficiency.

A spray of blood. Her expression froze in agony before dimming into stillness.

Yet behind the act was a layered deception. The child was not Yuichi's actual sister—but a flawlessly transformed Homie animated by a captured civilian soul. One puppet relayed soul energy via its palm, keeping the transformation stable, even through physical trauma. The illusion was flawless.

"No!!!"

Yuichi's agony exploded. His chakra flared. His Mangekyō—no, his Sharingan—twitched. The single tomoe spun violently, splitting into two tomoe before stabilizing.

Dii… dii… dii...

Sensors blared. Chakra and neural fluctuations went off the charts. Color-coded monitors flickered—red for chakra spikes, green for ocular nerve stimulation, violet for emotional stress response.

Gen's hypothesis from his research into Tobirama Senju's early Sharingan documentation was holding true. Profound emotional bonds—grief, rage, despair—could forcibly catalyze visual prowess evolution.

"Oh? Two tomoe, just like that?" Puppet #1 chuckled as he inspected the data streaming in.

Yuichi's eyes burned crimson, his teeth clenched. "You monsters… I'll kill you. I'll destroy your families... and I'll burn your filthy Kirigakure to ash."

Puppet #1 leaned close. "You think that scares a Blood Mist shinobi?"

"Your little eye trick won't even faze one of our low-rank Jōnin."

He turned. "Dispose of the body."

"Yes!" chorused Puppets #2 and #3, dragging the puppet-corpse across the floor. Blood trailed like a cruel ink blot, seeping into the metal grates.

"Don't touch her!" Yuichi screamed.

Crack! A precise chop to the neck. He collapsed.

Even a dual tomoe Sharingan couldn't break the genjutsu without chakra. And without mastery, it couldn't read chakra flows or decipher multiple attackers.

Gen noted all of this. His ultimate goal wasn't cruelty—it was understanding.

Just like Obito Uchiha, who awoke his Mangekyō after witnessing Rin's death—but even Obito had evolved directly from a two-tomoe base. Direct evolution from a single tomoe to Mangekyō was virtually unheard of.

The experiment repeated in the west wing, where Uchiha Mori, subjected to the same visual trauma—this time involving a younger brother—also evolved his Sharingan to two tomoe. Again, the trauma was faked but perfect.

One more puppet was expended. Two more Sharingan sets evolved.

Puppet #1 gathered both sets of data. Then, through the soul-connection link—refined using the same principles as Yamanaka's long-range transmission— relayed them directly back to Gen.

Back in his warm bed, Gen Uchiha opened his eyes slowly.

He reviewed each wave, each data point, each chakra resonance. Cross-referencing variables, aligning theory with outcome.

He wasn't just building a case for evolution. He was mapping the anatomy of trauma.

Somewhere between tragedy and power... lay the truth behind the eyes of the Uchiha.
