Chapter 53: Kai Makes a Move
Back in the Valley of Peace, Po and his friends spent the day questioning Li Shan about everything he knew.
The hidden Panda Village.
The survivors.
The mystical arts of their kind.
Po, despite already knowing some things from his knowledge of the timeline, found himself intrigued. Hearing details from someone who had lived it firsthand was much more enriching than general knowledge.
Li Shan spoke of the ancient ways of the Pandas, their deep connection to Chi, and how they lived in harmony with the world. He also mentioned that not all pandas stayed hidden—some had gone out into the world but never returned.
It made Po wonder… were there other pandas scattered across China? Perhaps warriors who had lost their way?
This was something he would look into later.
For now, he listened, asked questions, and let his curiosity roam.
But far beyond the mortal world… something dark was brewing.
Oogway vs. The Jade Slayer
In the Spirit Realm, beneath the vast, swirling skies of gold and blue, Grandmaster Oogway sat upon a floating rock, his eyes closed in serene meditation.
His consciousness stretched outward, touching the flow of the universe itself.
The stars whispered.
The cosmos hummed.
All was in balance.
Until—
A sudden shift.
A disturbance in the flow of Chi.
Two blades, gleaming with corrupted green energy, whistled through the air toward him, their chain rattling like a viper ready to strike.
Oogway's eyes fluttered open.
Without even turning, he lifted one palm.
The moment the weapons neared, he caught them between his fingers, his grip unyielding.
The Jade Blades trembled in his grasp, trying to resist, trying to lash out with their corruptive power.
Oogway merely sighed.
With a simple twist of his fingers, the chain shattered.
The green jade-like Chi writhed, trying to hold its form, but Oogway's sheer purity of spirit overwhelmed it.
A flash of golden light pulsed outward—
And in an instant, the corrupted weapons vanished.
Silence.
Then—
A low chuckle.
"Oh, Oogway…"
Emerging from the mist, his jade hooves clanking against the rocky ground, Kai the Jade Slayer appeared. His massive frame towered over the turtle, his eyes burning with malicious glee.
"Not bad, old friend," Kai sneered, rolling his shoulders as if preparing for a warm-up. "But you think taking away my blades makes me weak?"
Oogway slowly turned to face him. His expression was unreadable.
"You were always strong, Kai," the old master admitted. "But strength without purpose leads only to destruction."
Kai scoffed. "And yet you still refuse to see the truth. The strong should rule, and the weak should serve."
Oogway let out a small chuckle, shaking his head.
"Then let us see if your strength is enough."
He lowered his stance.
Kai's grin widened.
Then, in a burst of pure Kung Fu mastery, the two legends clashed.
Fist met fist.
Palm struck palm.
The very fabric of the Spirit Realm trembled beneath their battle.
Oogway's movements were effortless, flowing like water, his form as solid as a mountain. Every attack he deflected, every strike he landed, was perfection incarnate.
Kai, in contrast, was brutal and unrelenting, his raw strength devastating. He struck like a warhammer, each attack shaking the very air.
They fought for what felt like eternity.
But Oogway, in the end… allowed himself to be taken.
Not out of defeat.
But faith.
He had felt it—Po's immense power.
He had seen it—the path the Dragon Emperor walked.
And so, as Kai's corrupted Chi chains wrapped around him, as his spirit was drained into the Jade Slayer's power, Oogway did not resist.
Instead, he smiled.
"I trust in Po."
Kai, victorious, threw back his head and laughed.
Oogway was his.
But his work was not yet done.
Now free to roam the Spirit Realm, Kai went about absorbing more Chi.
He gathered power.
Summoned his Jade Warriors.
And when the time was right…
He turned his gaze toward the mortal plane.
A wicked grin spread across his face.
"It's time… for my return."
His hooves slammed into the ground—
And with a flash of green lightning, Kai vanished.
His war against Oogway's legacy had begun.
The Spirit Realm shuddered as an unnatural storm gathered in its skies. Green lightning arced across the heavens, illuminating the ethereal clouds with a sickly glow.
At its center stood Kai, the Jade Slayer.
He planted his massive hooves into the rocky ground, his fists clenched at his sides, brimming with the stolen Chi of countless warriors. His new power surged within him, pulsating, demanding release.
He was stronger than ever before.
And now, finally—
It was time.
Lifting both of his four-fingered hands, he thrust them into the air, gathering his stolen Chi into a massive whirlpool of energy.
A crack split the sky.
The boundary between realms ripped open.
A swirling portal of green flames appeared before him, churning like the mouth of a dragon, leading straight into the mortal world.
Kai grinned.
With a mighty step, he walked forward—
And vanished.
Somewhere in the cold, snow-covered mountains, a green explosion shattered the silence.
Energy tore through the landscape, sending a shockwave across the peaks, cracking the ice, and blasting snow from the cliffs. The winds howled in protest, carrying the reverberations of something unnatural—something powerful.
And at the center of it all—
Kai stood, back in the flesh.
He inhaled deeply, feeling the crisp air of the mortal world fill his lungs once more. The cold did not bother him; the sheer power coursing through his jade-infused veins burned hotter than any fire.
He exhaled.
Then he threw his arms wide open, his voice booming with triumphant laughter.
"I HAVE RETURNED!"
His voice echoed through the mountains, shaking the very stones beneath his feet.
It had taken him centuries, but at long last, he was here.
No longer banished.
No longer trapped in the Spirit Realm.
He had stolen Oogway's Chi. He had conquered the greatest masters of the past.
And now, he would do what he should have done 500 years ago.
He would burn Oogway's legacy to the ground.
He would destroy everything that turtle ever touched.
"China will remember my name," Kai declared, his jade swords materializing at his sides. "The era of Oogway is over! The era of Kai begins!"
His hooves thundered as he began marching down the mountains.
He would spread fear.
He would make the people cower.
He would remind the world of his power.
And yet…
As he neared the first human settlement, an uneasy feeling settled in his chest.
Something felt… wrong.
Very wrong.
Kai reached the village gates.
A simple settlement of farmers and traders, barely worth noticing.
But it was his first step toward dominance.
He strode forward, his presence towering over the mortals.
A passing merchant froze at the sight of him, his basket of vegetables nearly slipping from his grasp.
Kai smirked.
Finally, a mortal to spread his name.
He stepped closer, his massive frame casting a shadow over the trembling man.
"You there!" Kai's voice was low, dangerous, like distant thunder. "Do you know who I am?"
The merchant gulped. "I—I… uh…"
Kai leaned down, his jade eyes glowing ominously. "Say it. Say my name."
The man stared. Blinked. Then, after a long pause, he hesitantly answered—
"…The Dragon Emperor?"
Silence.
Kai's grin faltered.
"What?"
The merchant winced. "Y-you mean Po, right? The Dragon Emperor? The Supreme Master of Kung Fu? The benevolent ruler of China?"
Kai's eye twitched.
"No. ME. KAI."
The merchant blinked again.
"Uh… who?"
A vein bulged in Kai's forehead.
The Jade Slayer. The one who fought beside Oogway. The one who conquered the Spirit Realm.
And this worm did not even know his name?
With an irritated growl, he released the man, letting him stumble away.
Kai turned toward an older man sitting on a porch, stroking his long beard.
Maybe this one would remember.
"You, old one," Kai grunted. "Surely you know of me? The great warrior, Kai! The Jade Slayer!"
The old man squinted up at him.
"Hmm… Kai… Kai…?" He tapped his chin thoughtfully.
Kai nodded, arms crossed. Finally.
Then—
"Oh! You mean Po!" the old man said with a grin. "Yes, the Dragon Emperor! The savior of China! The strongest Kung Fu master to ever live!"
Kai's eye twitched again.
"No. Not Po." His voice was dangerously low. "Me. KAI."
The old man frowned. "Who?"
Kai's breath hitched.
He turned, grabbing a passing woman. "YOU! DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?"
The woman gasped. "You're talking about His Majesty, Po?"
Kai's eye twitched harder.
"NO. NOT PO. ME. KAI!"
Another pedestrian walked by. "Oh, yeah, Po, the benevolent ruler of China! Saved us all!"
Kai's jade aura flared in frustration.
Another man. "Oh, Po! The God of Kung Fu! Oogway's Second Coming!"
Another. "Po! The Immortal Warrior! The Unbreakable Emperor!"
Everywhere he turned, the people only spoke of Po.
The Dragon Emperor.
The Savior of China.
The strongest warrior to ever live.
Kai's rage boiled over.
He roared, his Chi-infused hooves stomping the ground, sending a shockwave through the village.
The mortals screamed and scattered, fleeing from his wrath.
This was unacceptable.
Unforgivable.
Oogway was supposed to be erased.
And yet, instead of the world bowing to him, it had crowned another.
Po.
A fat, bumbling panda had taken his place as the greatest warrior in history.
His nostrils flared.
His fists clenched.
His mind burned with one thought.
This cannot stand.
If Po had taken his place…
Then Po had to die.
With a final snarl, Kai vanished in a burst of green flames—
His sights now set on the Jade Palace.
And the Dragon Emperor who dared steal his legend.
