Chapter 4: Secrets Above The Crusty Kunai
The Kamizuki family lived modestly, tucked above the bustling pizzeria that bore their name: The Crusty Kunai. While the shop below was alive with the aroma of baking dough, sizzling toppings, and the constant chatter of loyal customers, the home above was its own blend of chaos and warmth. Raven Kamizuki—formerly Kushina Uzumaki—had settled into her new life with remarkable speed. Perhaps too remarkable, given her two-week-old body was already capable of standing, walking, and sneaking around when no one was looking.
Not bad for two weeks of training. But this is nothing compared to Grandma Mito, she thought smugly, pacing quietly in her crib while keeping an ear on her parents' antics downstairs.
Aiko Kamizuki, the queen of the Crusty Kunai, had just finished delivering an impassioned speech to a room full of diners about why pizza was the superior culinary art. "Ramen might fill your belly," she declared, waving her rolling pin like a general rallying her troops, "but pizza fills your soul! Who wants a soggy noodle when you can have a crust that crunches like victory?"
The crowd roared their approval, and Aiko grinned triumphantly as she handed out slices of the day's special, the Kunai Supreme, adorned with every topping she could fit without compromising the crust.
"Another masterpiece!" Hajime Kamizuki called from his favorite corner of the shop. He stroked his long sage-like beard, sipping from a steaming cup of coffee as he gazed wistfully into the distance. "Ah, pizza. A metaphor for life itself. Layers of complexity hidden beneath a simple exterior."
Aiko rolled her eyes but didn't bother responding. She knew where this was going.
Hajime stood, raising his coffee mug like a philosopher unveiling the secret to existence. "The crust represents our foundation, strong and unwavering. The sauce is the passion that drives us, bold and tangy. And the toppings—"
"Are whatever you find in the fridge when you're desperate for dinner," Aiko interrupted, smacking him lightly with her rolling pin. "Hajime, I swear, if you scare off another customer with your cryptic nonsense, I'm sending you to Ichiraku Ramen to beg for scraps!"
The mere mention of Ichiraku Ramen sent a visible twitch through Aiko's eyebrow. The infamous ramen shop, run by Teuchi, was a thorn in her side. For years, the two had engaged in a fierce rivalry over culinary supremacy in Konoha, with Teuchi claiming ramen as the ultimate comfort food and Aiko championing pizza as the true soul of the village.
"Teuchi doesn't understand artistry," Aiko fumed as she flipped a fresh pizza into the oven. "He thinks slapping noodles in a bowl and calling it a day is enough to win hearts. But one day, my Crusty Kunai will be the talk of every shinobi in the Hidden Leaf!"
From her crib upstairs, Raven smirked to herself. The rivalry was ridiculous, but it was hard not to admire Aiko's fiery determination. The real irony, of course, was that her former husband —Minato, from her past life—was Ichiraku Ramen's most devoted customer. She could almost hear the chaos that would ensue if Aiko ever learned that.
As the voices faded downstairs, Raven turned her attention inward. Yuumi's shimmering form appeared in the corner of the room, her silver-white fur glowing faintly in the moonlight. "Your parents are… spirited," Yuumi remarked, her tone both amused and fond.
"That's one word for it," Raven muttered mentally, rolling her tiny shoulders. "I like them, though. They're… different. But I didn't ask for this life just to listen to debates about pizza and ramen. What's next?"
Yuumi's tails swayed thoughtfully. "You've made good progress with Nature Chakra, but it's time to expand your control. If you're going to fight effectively, you need tools—tools you can command even when you're not on the front lines."
Raven tilted her head. "You're talking about puppets."
"Exactly," Yuumi said. "Your Rinnegan gives you the ability to imbue life force into objects—or even small creatures. Puppets powered by Nature Chakra will act as extensions of your will, fighting autonomously when needed."
Raven's eyes glinted, their violet Rinnegan patterns faintly glowing. "Sounds like my kind of thing. But where do I start?"
Yuumi hopped down from the crib, her movements graceful and deliberate. "Follow me," she said. "Quietly."
Raven crept after Yuumi, her tiny feet making no sound as she padded across the room. She'd been practicing walking for days now, careful to never let her parents see. To anyone else, she was just an ordinary infant, but in truth, she moved with the poise of someone who'd spent a lifetime training.
Yuumi led her to the window, where the fox leapt effortlessly onto the sill. "Wait here," she said, slipping out into the night. Moments later, she returned with a small bundle—a pair of rabbits caught from the nearby woods.
"These will do," Yuumi said, placing them gently on the floor. "Watch closely."
Yuumi's tails glowed with a soft, otherworldly light as she infused the rabbits with a small amount of her chakra. The creatures stirred, their movements mechanical yet fluid, as if awakened from a dream. "Now it's your turn," Yuumi said, stepping aside.
Raven knelt beside the rabbits, her tiny hands steady as she concentrated. She closed her eyes, feeling the flow of Nature Chakra within her, and directed it outward. A faint green glow surrounded her hands as she placed them on the rabbits, her Rinnegan pulsing softly.
The rabbits twitched, then rose to their feet, their eyes glowing faintly with chakra. They moved in sync with Raven's will, responding to her thoughts like extensions of her own body.
"Not bad for your first try," Yuumi said, her voice tinged with approval. "With practice, you'll be able to control larger and more complex puppets. But remember, these are just tools. Your true power lies in your bond with me."
Raven smiled faintly. "I know. You're my ace, Yuumi. My eternal guardian."
The fox's eyes softened. "And you, Kushina Uzumaki, are my purpose."
The next morning, Aiko burst into Raven's room with her usual energy, scooping the baby into her arms. "Good morning, my little kunai!" she cooed. "Ready to help Mommy conquer Konoha's taste buds?"
Raven blinked up at her, feigning the innocence of a newborn. Aiko carried her downstairs to the shop, where Hajime was already sitting with his coffee, spinning a kunai-shaped pizza cutter like a philosopher with too much time on his hands.
"Ah, the little one graces us with her presence," Hajime said, stroking his beard. "She has the eyes of someone who's seen lifetimes. A soul born anew to unlock the mysteries of existence."
"Hajime," Aiko snapped, smacking him lightly with her rolling pin, "stop acting like a mystic and clean the tables. And don't go filling her head with nonsense!"
"Yes, dear," Hajime replied, his tone exaggeratedly deferential. "But mark my words, this child will change the world."
Raven suppressed a smirk, her tiny fists clenching with determination. "You have no idea," she thought.
As the Kamizukis bickered and the aroma of freshly baked pizza filled the shop, Yuumi's voice echoed softly in Raven's mind. "You're building a good foundation, Kushina. But this is only the beginning."
Raven glanced toward the shadows where Yuumi hid, her violet eyes glinting. "I'm ready," she replied silently. "Let's keep going."
