Just then, a Marine, rummaging through a mound of corpses, spotted something buried among them. His eyes lit up as he grasped the hilt and pulled out a blade stained with blood and grime.
"Look! This blade… it's Rocks' sword!"
"Rocks' sword? That legendary blade? The one said to rival even the likes of Murakumogiri and Shodai Kitetsu?!"
"Among the twelve Supreme Grade swords, this one—'Yoru no Kokuō'—was wielded by Rocks himself! If we return it, maybe Marineford can finally nurture a new generation of top-tier swordsmen!"
"Then don't waste time—bring back his body too! Proof that the World Government defeated the terror of the seas!"
A heated discussion broke out among the Marines. For the World Government, dragging back Rocks' corpse was symbolic—a trophy to announce their victory over the strongest pirate of his era. His sword, a symbol of his terrifying reign, was a prize no one dared to ignore.
But not far away, a shadow stood silently, eyes dim with cold fury.
"Put it down," Ayr said darkly, his tone absolute.
Though Ayr never fully admired Rocks' cruelty, he acknowledged the man's significance. Whatever grudge lingered between them, Rocks had shown him the path of strength. His burial belonged here—where he fell. Not paraded like a prize.
If Ayr had any say, the Marines would not desecrate the body of the man once called the King Above Kings.
"Ay... Ayr?! It's him!!"
The sudden appearance of the infamous Ayr sent a wave of dread through the Marine elites.
His performance in the Valley of the Gods battle had already become the stuff of nightmares—defeating Zephyr and then Admiral Kong back-to-back. How could one man carry that much power?
"W-We don't have to give it up! He's exhausted!"
"Right! Don't forget—he used that giant Susanoo armor technique, clashed with two Admirals, and then even fought off multiple top-level pirates! There's no way he's recovered!"
"This is our chance! If we kill him now, we'll become heroes of justice!"
Hope sparked in their eyes—not from courage, but ambition. What better promotion than slaying the monster of the Rocks pirates?
They gave each other silent nods. Then—like a pack of jackals—they surged forward.
"Kill him!!!"
Steel gleamed. Haki ignited. The ground trembled as they charged.
Ayr stared with pity.
"What a bunch of fools."
He moved.
"Shing!!"
From his waist, he drew the demon-sealing blade Slayer. Instantly, its blackened edge flared with Conqueror's Haki, and a storm of sword aura screamed outward.
"Shiing!!"
A crescent-shaped sword wave cleaved the air.
"Pupupupu!"
Blood sprayed. Dozens of Marine elites collapsed—severed by a single slash.
"H-How!? He… he can still fight?!"
"No way! His stamina should've hit rock bottom! This is impossible!"
"Monster! He's a damn monster!! Retreat!! Run or we'll all die!"
Terror flooded their ranks. The same arrogance that brought them charging now sent them fleeing in all directions.
Desperate, they dropped the corpse and the sword, scrambling to survive the shadow of Ayr's power.
"Too late."
"SHING!!"
Another slash.
Sword aura weaved across the battlefield like a blade of wind. Screams. Silence. Blood mist.
The remaining Marines fell where they stood.
Ayr resheathed Slayer.
The wind fell still.
He walked up to Rocks' headless corpse—thrown aside like trash.
Ayr's eyes swept across the battlefield, then found it: the severed head of Rocks D. Xebec, lying bloodied and half-buried near a shattered boulder.
Gently, he picked it up and set it atop the lifeless body.
Even now, Rocks' expression held arrogance. His eyes, though closed, seemed to sneer at the world.
"That's all I can do for you… Captain."
Everyone—Marine, Roger Pirates, even some Rocks Pirates—wanted Rocks dead.
The World Government feared his ideals.
Roger sought to end his reign.
Even his own crew, seduced by the promise of taking his legacy, turned their blades.
No one wanted him to leave this battlefield alive.
Not even Ayr, with all his strength, could have reversed that fate.
Ayr wiped the blood from the Supreme Grade sword—Yoru no Kokuō. Just gripping it made the Haki in his arms resonate. The sword wasn't just forged steel. It pulsed with history, wrath, and conquest.
A true blade of a conqueror.
He found its ornate scabbard among the rubble and secured the sword at his waist.
"I'll carry your sword now."
The blade had lost its master. But the Will of Rocks—the drive to stand above all—lived on in Ayr.
He carved a pit with a burst of Haki-infused slashes, then gently laid Rocks' body to rest within it.
A silent burial. No honor guard. No epitaph.
Just the man who killed gods burying the man who tried to become one.
Then, without looking back, Ayr turned and left.
Elsewhere, on the outer rim of the Valley of the Gods, chaos reigned.
Sengoku, encased in the Buddha form of his Mythical Zoan fruit, clashed violently with Whitebeard. Thunderous shockwaves cracked the terrain, while remnants of both sides' forces clashed all around them.
Though the fight began near the center of the island, their battlefield had shifted near the cliffs overlooking the ocean.
"BOOM!!!"
Sengoku's golden palm smashed against Whitebeard's bisento. The old man was sent flying back, skidding through broken trees and shattered stone.
He landed on one knee, panting.
Before facing Sengoku, Whitebeard had fought Deros of the CPO—a brutal fight that drained much of his power.
And now, with every strike exchanged with the Fleet Admiral, his body creaked under the strain.
"Give up, Edward," Sengoku said, stepping forward, eyes gleaming with fury. "You've lost."
Whitebeard coughed up blood. But his face… still bore that rebellious grin.
"I'm not down yet, Sengoku."
He rose, one hand gripping his bisento, the other wiping blood from his chin. Despite the exhaustion, despite the pain—he stood.
Because if men like Rocks could die here…
Then monsters like him had no choice but to fight harder.
