Legendary FBI Detective

Chapter 482: Harvest, Training, and Financial Crisis

Reesi treating everyone was just a joke Luo An made. Before heading to the barbecue restaurant, Luo An called the owner, and shortly after they arrived, grilled beef, lamb, chicken, various seafood, and vegetables were served at the dining table.

"Cheers!" x6

Around the fragrant dining table, agents raised their glasses in a toast and joyfully indulged in the delicacies.

The next morning, Luo An was awakened by the urge to pee. Groggy, he crawled out of bed and went into the bathroom to handle his personal dilemma.

This room is the secondary bedroom on the second floor of the villa, where Luo An usually resides.

Last night, influenced by alcohol, Mona and Luo An were in high spirits; thus, they indulged and played in Mona's room, the villa's master bedroom, for two hours.

Afterwards, as Luo An was about to go into the master bedroom's bathroom to clean up, Mona pushed him out of the room.

This annoyed Luo An quite a bit—what does it mean to use and discard?

While brushing his teeth, Luo An opened the light blue system interface in his mind.

As Luo An expected, the system rated his recent event handling as "excellent," accumulating four treasure chests.

After a sequence of crude transitional animations, the four chests produced one bottle of [Pain Relief Potion], one bottle of [Hemostatic Potion], one bottle of [Featherfall Potion], and one bottle of [Swift Potion].

At this moment, Luo An's system inventory page contained [Stamina Potion x5]

[Hemostatic Potion x5]

[Antidote Potion x5]

[Swift Potion x4]

[Strength Potion x3]

[Sensitivity Potion x1]

[Pain Relief Potion x6]

[Featherfall Potion x3]

[Sleep Potion x1]

[Aquatic Breathing Potion x1]

but it was missing the [Danger Sense Potion] that Luo An had been eagerly longing for, which he felt was most useful.

However, Luo An wasn't in a rush. Given the increasingly simple social demeanor of the Federation, there would be no shortage of chances to obtain treasure chests, and eventually, one would yield a [Danger Sense Potion].

After washing up, Luo An took a bottle of [Stamina Potion] and gulped it down, instantly feeling energized and his lower back returning to optimal condition.

Changing his clothes, Luo An went downstairs to quickly prepare two servings of breakfast, ate his own portion, and after resting for over forty minutes, he entered the gym at the corner of the first floor.

This gym was originally a room designated for a nanny or chef in the villa, but neither Luo An nor Mona liked having housekeepers; they usually tidied up the rooms themselves.

If they couldn't manage, the two would phone community management for temporary cleaning staff.

This left the room vacant, and since both Luo An and Mona needed a place to work out, they bought a treadmill, spin bike, dumbbells, floor mats, and other items, converting the room into a gym.

Initially, there was an exercise ball in this room, but later Mona and Luo An discovered new uses for it, so Mona moved the ball to the wardrobe area in the master bedroom.

Thump! Thump! Thump!

In front of a red punching bag, Luo An practiced boxing and kicking in no particular hurry.

Luo An was very clear about his relationship with the system in his mind: its primary role was to raise the upper limits of his physical capabilities.

Combat techniques, killing techniques, gun skills, and the like still required continuous effort, training, and practice—these were the essentials he relied on.

"Good morning."

As Luo An punched the bag from different angles, Mona walked into the room, her hair tied in a ponytail and wearing a set of deep gray underwear plus gray high-waisted pants, holding the breakfast Luo An had prepared earlier.

Luo An exhaled a deep breath and turned to look at Mona, smiling and saying:

"Good morning."

"Your breakfast tastes much better than mine."

Finishing her breakfast in a few bites, Mona blinked her big eyes and curiously asked:

"Luo An, why is your punching so slow?"

Luo An grinned and replied:

"Because I'm afraid if I move too fast, I'll kill the punching bag."

So far, Luo An had drunk countless bottles of "Physical Stamina Potion", and he had also consumed quite a few "Strength Potions", slowly and gradually increasing, which made his strength very formidable.

Previously, Luo An had secretly bought a hanging sandbag, and when he gave it his all, it didn't take long before the sandbag was kicked into the wall by Luo An, scattering its contents all over the ground.

Hence, Luo An punching the sandbag was more about repeatedly practicing the moves for killing and fighting; speed was not important.

"..."

Mona knew that Luo An was strong but didn't know the specifics; she took it as a joke from Luo An, gave him a glance, set aside her plate, and started doing some simple muscle stretching.

It was not suitable to exercise straight after eating because it could easily cause conditions like gastric ptosis over time; it wasn't until forty minutes later that Mona stepped onto the treadmill and started exercising properly.

Luo An continued to punch the sandbag at his own pace; after running on the treadmill for a while, Mona suddenly mentioned:

"Luo An, I want to invest my money, do you have any suggestions?"

Yesterday, while having a meal with Reesi, Mona learned from her that the stocks she bought following Luo An's advice had made her a lot of money.

After that, Reesi used eighty percent of the extra gains obtained from the Special Investigation Team to continue purchasing those stocks.

No one ignores the prospect of making money; Mona had previously overlooked this, only reminded of it when she saw Reesi's face full of admiration and gratitude for Luo An.

"Investment..."

Hearing this word, Luo An frowned slightly, and his punching slowed to a stop.

Luo An wasn't particularly versed in the principles behind the financial crisis but remembered the story just before the official outbreak of the 2008 financial crisis, which began with the Federal Reserve starting to raise interest rates.

With the rise in interest rates, subprime borrowers could not afford the higher interest and rates, and thus began to default on their loans.

Once these people defaulted on their loans, it triggered a wave of foreclosures, ultimately leading to company losses, bank bankruptcies, the collapse of investment banks, and the explosive onset of the financial crisis.

The year was now 2006, and Luo An had taken a look at the interest rates of the Federal Reserve Fund during a recent break; they had increased significantly since 2004, which meant the financial crisis was fast approaching.

"... Luo An? Luo An?!"

After calling out loudly for a few times, Mona then asked:

"What are you thinking about?"

"Nothing."

Regaining his thoughts, Luo An smiled, took off his gloves, tossed them aside, and said with a smile:

"Mona, there's no rush with the investment thing, let me study it in detail later."

"OK."

Mona's expression was a bit puzzled, but she nodded in agreement; after such a long time of experiences and adjustments, she trusted that Luo An wouldn't deceive her.

After finishing their workout, Luo An and Mona went back to their respective rooms, changed clothes, and set off for work.

What made Mona somewhat speechless was that every day on the way to work, Luo An sat in the passenger seat of the white Ford car she drove.

The black Ford sedan in the garage was only driven by Luo An during holidays; on ordinary days, he more often drove the SUV from the Special Investigation Team.

The follow-up work for the "Massacre of the Former Team Supervisor's Family" case, thanks to the data provided by the Homeland Security Department, led to quickly establishing the charges against the leader of the Luo Ya Drug Trafficking Group, Tahveli, and the subsequent court proceedings and other tasks were not needed to be continuously followed up by the Special Investigation Team.

In the following days, under the wise leadership of Luo An, the group leader, the members of the Special Investigation Team began a nine-to-five job pattern, skiving off and loafing around.

Time quickly moved to next week's Friday, and in a chair in the office area, Reesi, holding a bag of snacks, asked while eating:

"What are your plans for the next two days?"

Winslow grinned and asked:

"Why, Reesi, are you planning to treat us to a meal?"

Slap—

"Eat your snacks; stop talking nonsense."

Reesi gave Winslow a glance and tossed him a bag of snacks.

Winslow laughed heartily, Reesi couldn't be bothered with him, and looking around, noticed that one person was missing from their office area, so she asked:

"Where did Michelle go?"

"While you were in the restroom, she was called by Luo An to the conference room."

Mona pointed to a nearby room and said:

"Just now, people from the IRS came."

"IRS?!"
