LET'S GO GAMBLING! [OPM]

Chapter 11: 11

Didn't Webnovel have something goofy that required your story to have 15k words or something? My memory is very fuzzy...

Anyway!

Should I keep the character profile page? It's kind of annoying to update it all the time but also helpful. I dunno, I think I'm gonna keep it.

LET'S GO GAMBLING!

——————————————————

It was a brand new day full of opportunities.

It was a brand new day full of... actually, no disappointment this time.

Kenshin's gambling paid off, who would've thought? At some point, he was willing to bet, hehe, that some days he was luckier than others. Or in some specific circumstances, like the deer incident. Although this was in reality just happenstance and bizarre coincidences.

He received one single golden ticket, which wasn't anything groundbreaking, but this wasn't what he was focused on. No, it was the prismatic ability ticket he had used up. The single most overpowered aspect of Compulsive Gambler, a basically infinite ability glitch. I

Kenshin knew beforehand that an ability like Compulsive Gambler was just sheer bullshit, and while it couldn't affect sentient beings like the deer he fought before, it could affect everything else. Honestly, he was hoping there was a limit to that. He didn't want to trip and accidentally gamble the fucking Earth away!

But back to the point.

Cardcaster couldn't have come at a better time as the Hero Entrance Exam drew ever closer. Kenshin sat on his bed, in his hand, holding a magenta-coloured card that burned with ethereal fire, the king of hearts visible on its surface, the white lines burning with pristine white colour.

It was a minor shame he couldn't pick the colour, but honestly, he was fine with magenta. He looked at the burning card in his hand with a wide smile, honestly with the aesthetic of his base ability so well he was surprised it took this long to get. Plus, it was useful for both ranged and close-quarters combat, given that he could alternate between the explosive and penetrative effects of his cards, but not both at the same time.

Yes, Cardcaster would go a long fucking way to help him get to the top. And if he could pile some more abilities on top of it, well, that's an almost scary thought...

But Kenshin held himself back from getting too giddy, the thought of having a long-ass ability list was very... lovely. But at the same time, unless he pulled something that increases his intellect or allows him to stack multiple abilities on top of each other, it would make him a jack of all trades, master of none. He was a human. He had a limited lifespan. He wasn't a genius. As he was now, he couldn't draw out the full potential of having, let's say, a dozen offensive & defensive abilities.

"Those are the thoughts of a loser..." he whispered under his breath as he crushed the magenta card in his hand.

Indeed, the road to the top wasn't going to be easy. Getting strong may not take as long as Kenshin originally thought, but staying strong and surviving against the growing threat of powerful monsters certainly wouldn't be done overnight.

Now that he had a useful fighting ability, and at least an A- in every attribute, he was feeling confident. Not too confident, that way lay death, but confident enough to whoop the ass of any deer with handguns for antlers.

"It's testing time."

Indeed it was, Kenshin wanted to see just how good this new Cardcaster ability was. And what better place than the abandoned ruins of Z-City? Granted, he couldn't just go willy-nilly throwing explosives around, but he could really easily find a half-demolished warehouse or a building.

Hopefully...

Actually, if he goes too far, he might get charged...

Oh well, you live and you learn, right? Might as well try out Cardcaster now that he has it. Who knows, he might even stumble on a random, (hopefully) weak monster! He almost couldn't believe he was thinking this, but that would actually be nice. Just as a form of measure, he needed to know where he stood against them because with at least A- in every attribute, being kicked around by common monsters would spell doom for him.

So that's what his plan was for today. Fuck the gym, he had other things planned!

He got up and went out. No headphones this time, and he made sure to put Saitama on speed dial just in case.

Funnily enough, it took Kenshin exactly five minutes to find a half-demolished warehouse. Yeah, it was that easy. To be fair half the buildings in this area were not pristine, but this one was just barely standing. Two of its four walls were gone and so was the roof, the inside was full of rubble too.

"Perfect."

Walking through the rubble left Kenshin a bit uneasy, but it wasn't difficult. A magenta-coloured card manifested itself in his hand, and soon, two others followed suit. The three burning cards were lodged between his fingers, and with a simple flick, he threw them into a rusted, badly damaged steel barrel that was placed against one of the two standing walls.

His aim was immaculate, surprisingly good for a guy that never done that before as all three projectiles found their mark. They made a strange, low-pitched sound as they quickly flew through the air, like a drawn-out laser from a sci-fi movie.

They stabbed through the barrel and the wall behind it, gliding through effortlessly.

Kenshin didn't even check what the cards were and just threw them, but damn, that was... insane.

"Oh yeah, now we're cookin' with gas."
