*Ais Wallenstein POV*
Ais leaned against the dungeon wall, her golden eyes fixated on the distant corridor Ethan had fought through.
Blood still stained the stone. The mutated monsters were already dissolving, but the memory of how he fought lingered in her mind.
She had watched the entire skirmish.
His movements weren't like the others. Sharp. Controlled. But it wasn't just skill—it was the way he reacted, like his body had already faced death more than once. Like instinct and experience danced together with his blade.
"…He's different," she whispered.
"Say that again?" Tiona asked beside her.
Ais didn't reply. Her fingers clenched the hilt of her sword.
He wasn't stronger than her—not yet. But for a Level 2, he was beyond anything she'd seen. And that made her… curious.
And a little excited.
---
### **The Expedition Divides**
Ais turned back to the group as Finn regrouped the teams deeper into the 25th floor.
There were five expeditionary units, each led by at least one high-level adventurer. They'd agreed to spread out to investigate the tremors, mutated monsters, and any signs of what could be triggering it all.
The Loki Familia's main force, with Riveria, Gareth, Bete, and the twins, was the lead spear. Ais naturally stayed with them.
Ethan was placed in the second unit, with a smaller force of elite Level 3s and 4s. Despite objections from others, Finn had insisted.
"He's the one who noticed it first. That counts for something," he had said.
---
### **The Unease Spreads**
As they descended further, the air changed.
Thicker. Heavier.
Magic clung to the air like damp mist. The monsters were fewer now—but stronger. And more silent. It felt like the Dungeon was holding its breath.
Riveria raised a hand and closed her eyes.
"…There's a presence. It's not natural," she muttered.
Gareth's brow furrowed. "A trap?"
"No," Ais said quietly, stepping forward. "A warning."
---
Elsewhere in the Dungeon
Farther ahead, the third team had encountered a malformed Goliath—a grotesque version of the 17th-floor floor boss. It was stitched with mana, warped and howling in agony. It had taken five adventurers to bring it down. Two were injured badly.
"It shouldn't be here," one of them muttered. "Goliaths don't spawn this deep."
Back near the rear, the fifth team discovered another anomaly.
A door.
Made of stone. Perfectly round, covered in ancient markings that none of the mages could decipher. It wasn't part of the dungeon's natural architecture.
And it was humming.
One of the mages reached out to touch it—and screamed as their fingers were burned.
Finn's voice came through the linked communication crystal. "Everyone regroup. Prepare to fall back if needed."
But it was too late.
---
Ais stopped walking.
The air was dead still. Her instincts—the ones she honed after years of battling monsters—screamed at her.
"…Something's coming."
"From where?" Bete growled.
"Everywhere," she whispered.
Then it began.
The stone cracked beneath them. A wave of monstrous energy surged from below, rolling through the floors like a shockwave.
Far in the distance, someone's voice shouted through the crystal.
**"THE WALL—IT'S ALIVE—!"**
---
Ais watched as the walls shimmered—runes glowing dimly—before **creatures began emerging directly from the stone**, like they were part of the Dungeon itself.
Dark, humanoid beings. Their skin looked like obsidian. Their eyes burned white-hot. No magic stones. No howls. Just silence and death.
One lunged toward an adventurer. He screamed—then was cut in half in a blur.
Riveria reacted instantly, magic circles igniting. "Everyone! Defensive positions—NOW!"
-
And Ethan
In the midst of another squad, Ais caught a glimpse of Ethan through the communication crystal. Surrounded. Calm. Lili behind him, drawing her crossbow.
He wasn't afraid.
He stepped forward—eyes blazing—and met the obsidian creature head-on.
One strike.
**One clean kill.**
She felt her heart skip.
Finn's voice came through the crystal again. "All units—we may be dealing with an irregular threat. Be ready to withdraw. Hold positions until further orders."
---
Ais exhaled slowly, watching the monster's bloodless corpse dissolve into nothing.
This wasn't just another Dungeon event. It was something worse.
Something intentional.
And in the middle of it—**he stood tall**.
"…I want to fight him even more now," Ais whispered.
Behind her, Riveria said, "You might not have the chance if this gets out of hand."
Ais just smiled faintly.
Then came the silence again.
And the Dungeon watched.
