Limitless The Strongest Revenant

Chapter 917: For the man you love [2/2]

The moment I thought those sentiments, the girls all flinched. Just from their reactions, it seemed like they read my thoughts. The girls all held me tighter, as if they were terrified of losing me.

'Honey, do you really have to do this?'

'Anata, please don't. It will put you at risk!'

'Darling, I can understand, but I don't like it.'

'Fucking niggers, Possum do we have to?'

Amused at their reactions, I sent positive emotions to their links. I didn't say anything. There was no excuse I could give. We didn't need to do this. But if I wanted to have even a hope of stopping the serpent, I had to.

"…" x4

None of the girls said anything. Yet I knew they felt conflicted. If I hadn't learned of what I just did earlier, I might have reconsidered. North America was not attacked in either World War. But they still joined. It only meant one thing.

'They would be next if they chose not to get involved.'

Like back then. Even if there was no attack on the North American battlefront, we would be next if the others fell. This was likely the reason the wars never stopped. It was masked as aid to send support to those under attack by the demons.

'It's kind of fucked up to think humans have been fighting demons all this time.'

"You are right, I apologize. This is Africa's problem. Going back to the Princes. There should be eight. I only know the locations of three of them. They all will be doing the same thing we are: allowing the prince to live his final days in peace before killing him."

Mia then pouted and said, "Oy, Limitless, can't you order the Awakened to cleanse the princes?" It might be a different problem for everyone else. But not for you."

"Sigh, Mia, stop being stupid. Even if Darling did, the rest of the Royal Harem will go after the Soldats. One of the {Kindred} and this Onye creep is intentionally breaking Africa apart. If they suddenly learn of the Awakened, they will go to war to maintain their power."

"Possum, doesn't he remind you of that Luk bastard, Liv keeps bitching about?"

"He does, Kitten. You think the demons got to him too?"

"Can't be that big of a cunt, otherwise."

Amari and Zanele both furrowed their brows at Jo's insightful comment. Even Mia went wide-eyed at my short exchange with Robyn. Amari then asked in a hurried voice as if he would die if he didn't hear the answer.

"Jo, what do you mean by breaking Africa apart?"

The one to answer him was my Kamisan. She kept rubbing her face on my sleeve as she pouted. It was incredibly adorable. I had to stop myself from hugging her. Because if I did, she would stop. I wanted to watch the Japanese onee-san act like a child a while longer.

"Amari-san, the other continents grew in power because it ended their infighting. Both for humans and the Reapers. Even with the Immortal-sama's wish to unite the continent, his sacrifices were pointless. The harem killing each other makes it so."

"What Aki is trying to say is that. If Africa didn't try to fight each other and joined hands. Hardly anyone would be able to compete with them. That can never happen thought. As the one tasked with unifying the African Royal harem is the one dividing it," Bella added.

"Yeah! Until you kill that bastard, the clans will never unite. They will waste their potential until Hellsgate breaks open. Darling might help. But, without a leader, it will just devolve into infighting again."

I already understood what the girls were trying to say. It was a common idea in anime and manga. If you could not oppose a large kingdom on your own, you would form alliances to gain the strength to do so.

As the smaller clans do not band together, a power that can oppose the {Kindred} families cannot be born. At least until the circumstances change.

And much like Jo said, even if I helped Amari by killing Onye and rallying the smaller clans under him. Until a leader comes forth to command Africa, she will not be of much use to anyone else.

"I see. You all are right. How could I not see through his lies before? Because I was terrified of him, I ran away. How many of the smaller clans got used and killed because of their power? And while we do have Specters, most of them are from the {Kindred} clans."

Zanele's realization caused her to weep. I didn't know if it was due to frustration, sadness, or anger. She covered her mouth, curled up, and closed her eyes. It reminded me of those who had just heard that their lovers or spouses had suddenly died.

"I-Its my fault, I could have helped. Sniff… Abiola Ayotunde, Prince Olamide's mother, my friend, asked me for help. And I told her I had no help to give. The next time I heard of her, she was dead. My fear killed her. I was the reason she died. My only friend…I-I'm so sorry."

It was a classic case of regretful enlightenment. The type that hurt the most due to being unable to do anything but accept what had already happened. The deeper the emotion, the more painful the regret.

Amari and Mia approached the weeping woman and tried to support her. But neither could say much. Zanele's realization was likely something they both knew. In exchange for indulging her cowardice, she retained her reality at the cost of her friend's life.

But while it was sad, I could not indulge her. It was a good thing that we were able to discuss this. Zanele had earlier spoken of wanting to support her husband. And she needed to understand the weight that such a position required. Even by doing nothing, she already made a choice daily.

And now that she grasped both what it would need and the consequences, she would grow. Being an adult lay not in the years one lived but in the responsibility one had decided to take. Zanele was growing in real time as she finally checked the realities she chose to deny.

After about ten minutes, I called out to her, "Zanele."

"Sniff. Yes, Successor?" she answered while still wiping her tears.

"Earlier you expressed your desire to help your husband. As powerful as love is, you need more to change the world. You will have to fight the {Kindred} and Onye. Your people will die; you will suffer. But you need to do so if you wish to change."

"I am aware, Successor. This short meeting with you has allowed me to learn more in an hour than I have in a century. It is probably because of the power you have bestowed upon me. Once again, I thank you."

I nodded at her positive reply. Then I continued, "For the man you love and your continent. Are you willing to pick up this cross and suffer? I can help you, but I cannot carry it for you."

"I am, Successor. Please help me save my continent. If you do, I vow that Africa will offer Hell's Eden her full support in whatever she needs to close Hellsgate."
