Chapter 919: Prove to me [2/2]
Zanele reached a room after some time and removed the mat from the floor. It exposed a wooden door that she pulled open. She made her way down with familiar movements. The girls and I had no trouble navigating in the dark thanks to {Imaging}.
After we got off the ladder, we found ourselves in a long, dark tunnel. A single torch did its best to shine, but it was far from enough. Zanele picked up another small torch. She was about to light it when the girls all pulled out large flashlights.
"How handy! Thank you."
Modern-day torches in hand, we then made our way forward in silence. About five minutes in, the girls began to talk to me via their links out of sheer boredom.
'Mr. Code, you are about to destroy the geopolitical situation of the world. Are you sure about this?'
'Oh! Come on, Bella! It's Darling! The only time he wavers is whether to fill us up or coat us with his baby batter! Forming an army on every continent is something only possible for Darling!'
"Indeed, we could gain a local standing army. We could also trade, share info, and strengthen humanity. This is only possible because of Shujin's {fate}, Exa, and modern weaponry."
'Bloody Oath! That's why my Possum is the best! Besides, if they betray us, we can just kill them all with {Sin of Limitless} and start over. Exa's there too.'
The Bellas' concerns were, of course, valid. Any kingdom would be unsettled if a foreign army resided on its shores. But this was something even modern militaries did. In return for money, poor allies would allow a small military presence.
Of course, the countries first had to get over their fear of getting invaded, but still. The US military, for all its faults, had a good track record. They did not destroy the countries they lived in. They even helped with their law enforcement.
Without this track record, many countries would expel American troops. Locals have, on more than one occasion, sought refuge in American embassies or bases. And my country knew it.
It was the only reason that no other country has 11 carrier strike groups patrolling both the east and the west. Each of these strike groups is capable of waging a full-scale war by itself for an extended period.
I hated the U.S. military. They wasted taxpayer money. But they were the strongest military in the world. No other country had a combat doctrine that forced it to be prepared to fight more than one war at a time.
And this type of combat readiness and efficiency was what I aspired to. I would create as many armies as necessary to achieve this goal. And once we secured the Earth, we would assault Hellsgate from all sides.
'I am sorry I didn't tell you all earlier about my {Kindred}. But this is something I only decided on earlier. Basically, if demons attack us anyway, trying to fight on our own is meaningless. It would be far better to just unite the whole world.
'The rest can continue their dick-measuring contests. Hell's Eden will focus only on subjugating the demons. Given enough time, I can give enough people the things they need to grow stronger. Once they grow to at least Specters, the world will benefit as a whole.'
Bella facepalmed. I felt her frustration through our link. In contrast, Jo and Robyn's links were burning with excitement. Meanwhile, Aki's grip on my hand tightened as she experienced a mix of fear and anticipation.
'Sigh, Honey, I thought I knew you well enough that your actions would never take me off guard. But clearly, I still know jack shit. I mean, come on! Antarctica is already a big enough undertaking. Now you want to police the world! Have some restraint!'
'Hahaha! But aren't the Yankees doing that anyway? If we arm the human armies with Sacreds, they can even hunt the demons for us! Darling's thought process is really smart and bold! I like it a lot!'
'That might be true, Jo, but humans are selfish. They will try to profit in some way; I do not want their evil intentions to taint Shujin's legacy. If we do raise armies, they must be as disciplined as Hellsend.'
'Don't think that will be an issue. Even if it does, that's why we Sheila's are here, right? Just like we did with Hellsend, if you beat enough people they tend to become real docile. Don't worry about a thing, Possum. The Hellcats and I will do the heavy lifting.'
'Thank you, everyone. I would apologize for all the trouble, but I will instead be shameless. I will be relying on you, my precious girls. I cannot do this without you,' I replied with gratitude.
The girls all gave me loving responses as we made our way toward Amari's brother. Zanele reached a dead end after a long journey. There was no door or anything. It felt out of place and did not seem to be part of the hut.
It was cleverly hidden, but I could feel the air ripple from behind the wall. It was either an illusion or something else. Zanele approached the wall and touched it gently. A bright light then came from her palm and began to trace patterns on the surface of the wall.
A second later, a loud thud echoed as the wall in front of us turned to dust. "This is a gift from Blanche; it is a soulgear that creates a room hidden in subspace. It requires my soul signature to open," Zanele explained.
Taking a step inside, we entered. It was a room that looked like it was high in the sky. We could see clouds in all directions. A warm breeze flowed about and kept the room cool and comfortable.
Inside the space was a single modern-day bed with white sheets. Resting on it was an African who had tribal ink on his face. He slept as if he were dead. But, just from seeing him, my vision darkened.
It was like I was hallucinating; soft voices of people crying and screaming entered my ears. My gaze turned red as all a sudden blood began spilling out of the ground. The once clear skies suddenly turned dark and ominous.
[{Mind Shield} has been overpowered. Recalibrating.]
Exa's voice was the only sign that I wasn't losing my mind. The hallucination grew more chaotic. Humanoid beings rose from the river of blood, trying to pull the sleeping prince off the bed.
[Recalibration completed. {Mind Shield} is now back at 100%]
As my AIs' work completed, the blood, figures, and the red sky all began to disappear. Within a few seconds, I again saw the original sky room and the sleeping prince.
"What the fuck was that," I couldn't help but comment.
Somehow, I just did not believe that whatever this thing was, it was simple. I raised my hand and called forth a few friends. With Exa assisting me in visualization, I quickly opened a portal to the village outside.
"{Portal}, Juno, Roach come here."
The two answered my summons and saw the prince on the ground. Yet contrary to my expectations. Roach began to stomp his feet in excitement.
"HAHAHA! I was bored! good thing you are here! let's fight!"
