Live-in Son-in-law

Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Buffoonery

The next morning, Qin Yi was still in cultivation when he was startled awake by the sound of pounding on the door.

"Qin Yi, come out here," Dong Jinsu shouted from outside.

Qin Yi went over and opened the door.

"Useless! All you do is eat and sleep; you're of no use at all," Dong Jinsu cursed, pointing sharply at Qin Yi's nose.

Qin Yi's eyes darkened, his gaze like two sharp blades piercing outward.

Dong Jinsu trembled slightly, frightened by Qin Yi's gaze. How could this useless man have such a terrifying look?

Actually, Qin Yi did not do it on purpose. After all, he wasn't an ordinary person anymore, and his aura alone could exert significant pressure on ordinary people.

Dong Jinsu felt a bit embarrassed; how could she be scared by just a look from this worthless person? She roared, "Get downstairs; I have something to tell you."

Qin Yi followed Dong Jinsu to the stairwell, took the stair lift, and slowly descended to the first floor. The stair lift had been installed for him by Xia Yanbing, to make it easier for him to move up and down the stairs.

In the living room, Xia Yujiang, Xia Yanbing, and Qin Wan'er were all present.

Qin Wan'er looked at Qin Yi, her large eyes filled with concern. She had heard everything that happened last night.

Dong Jinsu sat down, looked at Qin Yi, and said, "I'll get straight to the point, divorce Xiaobing."

Qin Yi knew that after what happened last night, this moment would eventually come. He just didn't expect Dong Jinsu and Xia Yujiang to be so impatient.

Xia Yujiang said, "If you're willing to divorce Xiaobing, we can give you a sum of money so you and your sister will want for nothing."

Qin Yi didn't care about Xia Yujiang and Dong Jinsu's attitude; what he cared about was Xia Yanbing.

However, Xia Yanbing kept her head down so Qin Yi couldn't see her eyes. But from her demeanor, he could tell she agreed to the divorce.

"Have you made up your mind?" Qin Yi asked, looking at Xia Yanbing calmly.

Xia Yanbing looked up at him, her eyes cold, and nodded slightly.

"Is it because of Han Ning?"

Xia Yanbing shook her head and said indifferently, "I know you don't like him. Even if we divorce, I won't marry him. It's not because of anything else, just that you're my husband, and I don't want to embarrass you."

Xia Yujiang and Dong Jinsu said nothing, thinking Xia Yanbing's words were just a stalling tactic. Once the divorce happened, who she married would be none of Qin Yi's concern.

"What if I don't agree to the divorce?" Qin Yi said.

Xia Yanbing said solemnly, "Qin Yi, your leg was injured to save me, and I have a great responsibility for what you've become. Let's part amicably; you can hate me, that's okay."

"Qin Yi, we're giving you face by discussing this with you. Don't reject our kindness. If you agree, you'll still get the money. If not, we have ways to make the divorce happen, and then you won't get a penny," Xia Yujiang sneered.

Dong Jinsu scorned, "It used to be Xiaobing who didn't want a divorce, and we respected her choice. But now she's made up her mind, and if you keep clinging, you're just embarrassing yourself. We have plenty of ways to ensure the divorce."

Xia Yujiang slammed two pieces of paper in front of Qin Yi and sneered, "Sign it!"

The divorce papers. Qin Yi smirked inside, noticing how well-prepared they were. He picked it up for a glance, suddenly chuckling, "Ten thousand, how generous."

"Hurry and sign, don't waste time, or you won't even get this ten thousand. All these years, you've been living off us; it's good enough we haven't demanded you pay us back. We could kick you out with nothing," Dong Jinsu spat disdainfully.

"Sister-in-law, are you really going to divorce my brother?" Qin Wan'er asked timidly.

Xia Yanbing looked at Qin Wan'er and whispered, "Wan'er, I'm sorry!"

"Useless! We hoped you'd marry into the Liu Family and enjoy a good life, but the Liu Family doesn't want you, this burden," Dong Jinsu mocked.

Qin Wan'er hung her head low, her eyes red with tears.

"Because the Liu Family broke off the engagement, you set your sights on Han Ning, right?" Qin Yi spoke calmly.

Xia Yujiang bellowed, "That's our business, not something a worthless person like you should interfere with. Sign the papers and take that burden away from the Xia Family."

Qin Yi looked at Xia Yanbing, "If the Xia Group's crisis is resolved, will you still divorce me?"

Xia Yanbing was taken aback, her gaze flickering slightly, but she soon returned to indifference and said, "Is there a point in discussing this now? Sign the papers."

"Brother, sign it!" Qin Wan'er suddenly said.

Qin Yi looked at Qin Wan'er in surprise.

"Brother, I'll take care of you. I'll get a job, and it'll be fine," Qin Wan'er couldn't bear to see her brother compromise and endure humiliation.

Qin Yi sighed softly. Qin Wan'er didn't want him to suffer, and he couldn't bear to see Qin Wan'er suffering either. Fine, let it be. At worst, he'd pursue Xia Yanbing all over again; she was destined to be his woman in this lifetime.

Qin Yi picked up the pen.

However, just then, Xia Yanbing's phone, which was on the coffee table, started to ring.

Xia Yanbing answered it, and before she could speak, her face changed dramatically, her bright eyes shining. She caught a glimpse of Qin Yi already writing the word "Qin" on the divorce papers. She quickly stood up, went over, and took the pen from Qin Yi's hand.

Qin Yi was stunned for a moment and looked at Xia Yanbing in surprise.

Dong Jinsu and Xia Yujiang were also stunned; they were so close to succeeding, and Xia Yanbing's actions drove them crazy.

Despite their claims that they could enforce the divorce even if Qin Yi disagreed, anyone with some legal knowledge would know that the Marriage Protection Law prohibits divorce when one spouse is disabled or critically ill.

"Okay, I understand. I'll be there right away," Xia Yanbing said before ending the call.

"Xiaobing, what are you doing?" Dong Jinsu couldn't contain her anger, having finally gotten Qin Yi to agree to the divorce.

"We'll discuss the divorce later; there's an urgent matter at the company that I need to handle," Xia Yanbing said, giving Dong Jinsu no chance to respond, heading straight for the door. However, she returned and took the divorce papers from in front of Qin Yi.

Xia Yujiang slammed his hand on the table, angrily exclaiming, "What is this?"

Dong Jinsu's vulgar face darkened, and Qin Yi knew a storm was brewing.

"Wan'er, go to school, don't be late, and remember to buy some breakfast on the way," Qin Yi signaled to Qin Wan'er.

Qin Wan'er looked at Qin Yi worriedly. Every time these two were in a bad mood, they'd take it out on her brother. As long as she was there, she could help bear some of that burden.

Qin Yi gave her a look, urging her to leave—it would be fine.

Qin Wan'er reluctantly left.

Sure enough, not long after Qin Wan'er left the house, there was a hurricane of shouting inside the villa as Xia Yujiang and Dong Jinsu unleashed all their anger on Qin Yi.

But Qin Yi, on his part, shut off his auditory senses, simply watching Xia Yujiang and Dong Jinsu jump around like jesters, their mouths flapping open and closed, the sheer comedy of it all almost making him laugh out loud.

Qin Yi realized that Xia Yanbing had left because Liu Zhanyuan had taken action. However, he was puzzled about why Xia Yanbing had taken the pen from his hand. Could it be that she liked him just a little? Qin Yi, easily satisfied, felt his spirits lift significantly.
