Chapter 78 The Duel [Part 5]
I was slowly getting tired, my muscles aching with every movement, but then I noticed something odd: Mirabel wasn't attacking me. She wasn't even on her feet anymore. I could see her slumped slightly, breathing heavily as her gaze remained locked onto me, a mixture of frustration and determination evident in her eyes.
Her clone was her most powerful spell, and from the way her chest rose and fell, I realized it must have used up almost all her Mana. She was recovering, probably buying herself time before launching another attack. If I could defeat her clone now, the battle would be over. It was an opportunity I couldn't miss.
I took a deep breath as the clone charged at me again. Our swords clashed in another flurry of strikes and counters. I could feel the weight of exhaustion pressing down on me, but I couldn't let it stop me.
Our movements were perfectly synchronized, each strike I made, the clone mirrored flawlessly, countering with equal force and precision. It was unsettling how perfectly it reflected my actions, down to the tiniest shift in stance or flick of the wrist. Neither of us gained the upper hand, locked in a relentless, evenly matched duel.
He mirrored me too well. It was almost eerie. My own fighting style, my strengths, and weaknesses—everything was reflected back at me with unnerving precision. But, I reminded myself, it couldn't copy everything. It might have had my speed and strength but it couldn't copy my skill.
I stepped back, panting slightly but a smile was on my face as I activated my skill.
[Temporal Weapon bind]
I took the initiative and charged towards the clone this time, all the skill I used were already burning through my stamina and I could feel myself getting slow.
The clone swung once I was within reach and I parried the attack immediately and it stopped.
With a burst of energy, I sidestepped and infusing Mana and drove my fist into the clone's head shattering it to piece.
I did that because I didn't want anyone to know I had Mary's skill, so as the clone was stuck in place I kept my sword fixed and used my fist to destroy the clone.
When I looked back at Mirabel, her expression was a mixture of disbelief and frustration. Her eyes widened as she stared at the remains of her defeated clone. She couldn't believe I had actually won against it.
Her mirror spell, powerful as it was, had flaws. That's why she had waited so long to use it. She needed to observe her opponent, figure out their abilities, and then create a clone that could replicate them. But that was the weakness. If a person had abilities they hadn't revealed, the clone wouldn't possess them.
If her clone could have used all my skills, it would have used Temporal Weapon Bind right at the start. But it didn't.
I began to charge towards Mirabel, hoping to press my advantage, but I heard a voice echo through the training grounds.
"Stop. The duel is over," Miss Sofia's voice rang out, clear and authoritative.
I halted in my tracks as the barrier she had placed around the area shimmered and then dissolved. "The winner: Xavier," she announced, her tone final and unquestionable.
"I haven't lost yet!" Mirabel protested, her voice trembling with a mix of exhaustion and anger.
"Your Mana is nearly depleted. What else do you intend to do?" Miss Sofia said, a hint of amusement in her voice. "The duel is over."
I collapsed to the ground, my entire body screaming for rest. My limbs felt like lead, and my breaths came in shallow gasps. Around me, I could hear murmurs and laughter from the students who had gathered to watch. Some were openly laughing at the princess, others whispering behind their hands.
I knew this would be tough, but I hadn't expected it to be this tough. Sweat dripped down my face, and my stamina was hanging by a thread. If I had continued fighting, I would have reached a point where even the War Buff wouldn't have mattered—my body would have simply given out
The system screen appeared in front of me.

[Do you want to break through to stage 4]
My Mana couldn't be upgraded because I'm still at stage 3, I would like to break through right now, but I didn't know the effect it would have.
If I didn't break through in the next 5 minutes my +10 Mana would be lost.
I stared at Mirabel who was staring back at me with a frown on her face, if the ranking battle starts she would be dead last, and Miss Sofia would increase her training, that alone was enough to bring a smile to my face.
'Break through'
[Breaking through to stage 4]
[Physical ability enough to support break through]
[Brace yourself]
'Shit, I knew it' I muttered as I closed my eyes, since the system told me to brace myself it would definitely be painful.
"Have you been holding back all this while?" Mia asked as she tugged my shoulder.
"I haven't" I quickly responded opening my eyes.
"You were faster, too fast...I can't believe you were holding back, that's why you asked if I would win against you in a fight right?"
Before I could answer the screen appeared again.

I blinked in surprise. The pain I had been expecting…never came. Instead, I stared at the numbers on my screen, and my eyes landed on my Mana. It had jumped to 110. The extra 10 from the quest reward had pushed it up significantly, and I now had an entirely new attribute: Spell Power.
With my increased Mana, I could actually focus more on magic now. That explained why Spell Power had been added—it was linked to my abilities as a potential mage. However, since it was currently the lowest of all my stats, my spells still wouldn't pack much punch.
"Xavier," Mia called again, waving her hand in front of my face.
"Sorry, what were you saying?"

"Oh, you're staring at your system. You got an upgrade from the fight, didn't you?" She crossed her arms, looking mildly annoyed. "That explains why you're ignoring me."
"I'm not ignoring you," I replied with a weak chuckle. "I'm just…exhausted. I'm not sure I can even stand up right now."
"After this duel, I'm sure you are, if I was the one that faced her, I would definitely lose to her, also I noticed something, just forget it, should I help you up?" Mia asked.
"Can you carry me back?" I asked and Mia stared at me for some seconds before shaking her head.
Mirabel finally stood up and walked towards me, Mia stepped away as she walked closer.
"This isn't over, we are going to duel again, set a date" Mirabel spoke clearly angry.
"I don't think I want to, we should wait till the ranking starts, it's already here, just 2 weeks and some days left" I spoke.
"So what do you want for our agreement?" She asked.
"What do I want, we agreed that the loser would be a slave to the winner" I asked.
"You think I'm going to be your slave, a princess like me be your slave, tell me one thing you want and I'll do it but I'm not becoming your slave" Mirabel spoke.
"Okay then, I want you to wear something, it's nothing much, [Inventory]"
I opened my inventory from behind me and brought out the slave band, it was just a black assessory that could be wore on the hand and I handed it to her
"I want you to wear this" I spoke.
"Wear it," She muttered as she took the bang from my hands and stared at it, it was nothing, it didn't have any trace of Mana so it was just a normal band wore on the hand.
Mirabel chuckled as she wore it on her right hand, "I'm not going to do anything else for you?"
"Yes, that is all, our agreement to over" I spoke with a smile on my face.
"Why do you have that smile, did you do something to..." She looked at her hand where the slave band was supposed to be at but nothing was there, it was gone.
[The lust system has recognized Mirabel as a slave]
[The slave is unable to refuse a request even when they want to]
