Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Wang Ye: Nice Driving Skills
Two days later
Mlaid Headquarters, Atlanta, Chief's Office
"Chief, Dr. Erskine has been standing outside the antique shop for three hours."
Jon, after receiving a report from agents monitoring the antique shop, relayed the intelligence to Wang Ye.
"He's here to see me?
Did something happen to Steve?"
"No, according to the latest intel, Steve is performing excellently in military training. Nothing unexpected has occurred."
Wang Ye frowned.
"Then it must be because of Steve's transformation. After all, it's only natural to be suspicious when someone goes from a sickly weakling to a top-performing soldier overnight.
I'll go check it out myself. Jon, I'm leaving you in charge of things here for now.
I likely won't be back for a while."
"Yes, Chief!"
Wang Ye stood up and casually opened a portal, stepping back into the antique shop's main hall.
Through the stained glass window on the front door, he could see a figure pacing back and forth outside presumably Dr. Erskine.
Wang Ye didn't hesitate. He went to open the door and, sure enough, there was the doctor.
"Doctor, what are you doing here?
Don't tell me something happened to Steve?"
Wang Ye feigned concern, his expression puzzled.
"You're mistaken, Mr. Ye. Steve is doing very well in training. I came to ask about the time he spent learning martial arts with you."
Dr. Erskine adjusted his glasses, looking a bit embarrassed.
"So that's what this is about. But that would fall under personal privacy, wouldn't it?
Aren't you afraid I'll refuse to answer if you ask me so directly?"
Wang Ye glanced at the slightly awkward doctor and found it amusing he reminded him of Zola.
"I figured it was worth a try. Steve's transformation has me very curious.
It's a bit of a professional habit I'm overly curious, I suppose."
Dr. Erskine gave a polite, slightly awkward smile, already bracing for rejection.
"Hahaha, since you're curious, I might as well tell you. It's not some great secret.
Don't just stand at the door come in and have a seat in the lounge, we'll talk there."
Wang Ye made a gentlemanly gesture, smiling warmly.
Delighted, the doctor entered the shop.
What followed was Dr. Erskine asking questions about Steve's transformation.
Wang Ye explained everything as the result of physical training through martial arts and emphasized Steve's natural talent for combat, which amplified the effects.
When he saw the skeptical look on the doctor's face, Wang Ye went a step further, pulling out obscure concepts like internal energy, Qi, acupoints, meridians, and dantian to keep spinning the tale.
Faced with such an onslaught of unfamiliar "technical" jargon, even the highly knowledgeable Dr. Erskine was utterly baffled his mind full of question marks, completely lost.
But after hearing so much, he did manage to understand one key point: Steve's case is unique and not something that can be replicated.
As the conversation picked up, the doctor also began discussing science with Wang Ye.
But since Wang Ye had already copied all of Dr. Erskine and Zola's knowledge, he could answer every question with ease and even expand on the topics.
This left Dr. Erskine completely stunned, and he immediately expressed interest in inviting Wang Ye to join the lab as his assistant.
However, Wang Ye didn't give a direct answer. Instead, he smiled and said:
"My shop only just opened a few days ago. Why don't you let me think about it first?"
"Ah…"
The doctor looked around at the many antiques inside the store, then swallowed the words he was about to say.
"Oh hahaha! That was rude of me. Well, Mr. Ye, take your time. I'll head back for now."
Dr. Erskine stood up with a polite smile.
"Doctor, wait don't you want to leave a way for me to contact you? If I decide to accept, how would I reach you?"
"Oh, look at me, I almost forgot!"
The doctor quickly pulled a small notebook from his coat pocket and, taking the pen clipped to his chest, wrote down his phone number. He tore the page out and handed it to Wang Ye.
"Once you've made up your mind, just call this number. I'll be going now."
He waved and hurriedly left.
What followed was another uneventful, laid-back day of manning the shop.
Time passed quickly.
The next morning, Wang Ye called Dr. Erskine and expressed his willingness to participate in the experiment.
Overjoyed, the doctor told him to wait at the shop door, someone would come to pick him up shortly and take him to the secret lab.
Wang Ye locked the door and waited outside. Sure enough, not long after, a black car sped toward him just like something out of a spy movie.
With a graceful maneuver, the car stopped precisely two meters in front of him.
Only then did he get a good look at the driver a striking female officer with wavy auburn hair and bold red lips. Her sharp features exuded both strength and charm.
Even from behind the car window, her curvaceous, wild allure was unmistakable.
"Good morning, Mr. Ye.
I'm Agent Carter. Dr. Erskine asked me to come pick you up."
Wang Ye nodded, opened the door, and sat in the passenger seat, quietly fastening his seatbelt.
"Agent Carter, your driving skills are impressive!
You're the most skilled female driver I've ever met."
"You flatter me, Mr. Ye. It's just a matter of practice.
But really, it's you who's impressive. For the doctor and even the colonel to both recommend you for top-secret research, you're far more than you appear."
"Oh? Is that so? Hahaha...."
