Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Wang Ye: I’m Going Independent!
Wang Ye shook his head, rubbed his temples, and stood up. He took the coffee Jon handed him and took a sip.
"The current frontline battle situation—Hydra should avoid getting involved. I'll handle it on my own in the future."
"Due to all the elite troops being redeployed, the garrisons at various bases have now shut their gates and are in full defensive posture."
"Mm. Go ahead and take care of the paperwork."
Jon nodded respectfully, then sat at the desk and diligently began reviewing the documents. This was a power Wang Ye had tacitly granted him—aside from matters affecting Hydra's survival, Jon was authorized to handle all other affairs.
Alps Base
"The Führer does not like to be ignored, Mr. Schmidt!
It was only because you promised to regularly supply him with high-powered weapons that he agreed to fund your research!
Since you accepted the benefits, you'd better follow the rules!
He even gave you this secret research base as a reward!"
In the base corridor, three of the Führer's so-called close confidants followed behind Wang Ye, chattering non-stop.
(Since they all knew the Red Skull had been disfigured from injecting unstable serum and always wore a mask, they didn't question Wang Ye's appearance in the slightest.)
"Reward?
Do you call this a reward? That's the funniest joke I've heard all year!
He dumped me in this godforsaken place—this is practically exile!"
Wang Ye said dismissively, "Maybe I just didn't fit his ideal image?
Who knows?"
One of the thinner officers noticed the Hydra soldiers in the corridor were wearing gear he'd never seen before, and the terrifying Hydra banners on the wall. He stopped to examine them, a flicker of unease twitching across his face.
"No, no—Mr. Schmidt, to be honest, your current attitude is extremely, extremely dangerous.
The reason you're in this position now is because your Hydra division has become increasingly disappointing, repeatedly testing the Führer's patience.
The weapons you used to supply were of decent quality, but in the past two months, what you've sent barely outperforms standard-issue pistols!"
The tall, thin officer glanced at Wang Ye smugly, emboldened by his official backing.
"And according to our intelligence, two months ago you suddenly redeployed a large number of elite forces—and since then, they've vanished without a trace. Care to explain that?"
"The Führer is worried… how did he put it?" the short, fat officer chimed in.
"We can't allow the Red Skull to run unchecked any longer," added the thin one.
Wang Ye suddenly stopped in his tracks and turned to look at them coldly. His icy, emotionless gaze sent chills down their spines.
"There's no need to play your little routine in front of me. If you're so curious about what I've been doing lately, why don't you come take a look for yourselves?"
The three officers exchanged uneasy glances, all inwardly intimidated by "Schmidt's" aura. They were already regretting volunteering for this assignment but forced themselves to nod.
"Of course, we're eager to see," one replied stiffly.
In the Laboratory
"The Führer's grand ambitions are still as far-fetched as ever. Countless soldiers have died in vain on meaningless battlefields,"
Wang Ye entered the lab and picked up a pre-prepared X-1 light sniper rifle powered by element We1, inspecting it.
"So, what—you're saying magic is the key to winning this war?"
The tall officer sneered, eyes full of ridicule.
"Strictly speaking, that 'magic' falls within the realm of science—just a more advanced branch.
But I understand. With your intelligence, it's impossible to comprehend. The power that's too great always inspires fear and disbelief.
While you lot are busy scheming and backstabbing for world domination, you don't realize that Hydra has already transformed!
I've acquired godlike power. The Hydra of today is no longer the timid organization it once was!"
Wang Ye spoke casually, then disengaged the safety on the X-1 sniper rifle and aimed it at the officer, who instinctively stumbled backward in fright.
"You will pay the price for your arrogance—you'll be brought before the Führer—"
The thin officer, long displeased with Wang Ye, lost his temper and raised his voice, finger pointed accusingly.
"I don't like people pointing fingers at me."
Wang Ye shifted the barrel and pulled the trigger. A crisp sound rang out as a bolt of dazzling blue lightning shot forth, instantly disintegrating the officer—leaving not even ashes behind.
The remaining two officers panicked and tried to escape, only to discover the door had been silently sealed. There was nowhere to run.
Wang Ye didn't waste words. He aimed and pulled the trigger again. In moments, the two trembling officers were erased in a flash of blue light—their lives ending in terror. They had thought this would be an easy assignment, only to meet their deaths.
"Phew~ Finally got rid of those annoying flies! Zola did a great job with this gear.
As of today, Hydra is officially independent!"
Wang Ye placed the sniper rifle on the desk, took a deep breath of the cold mountain air, and smiled faintly as he gazed at the snow-covered peaks.
"Chief, all the intruders outside have been dealt with!"
Jon entered with a look of joy—he had always believed Wang Ye was the true power behind Hydra. Those so-called political leaders weren't even worthy of comparison.
"Good. Let's return to headquarters."
Wang Ye waved his hand, opening a space portal and stepping through it. Jon followed closely behind.
