Nick Fury didn't expect Carol Danvers to be so eager to jump into action immediately upon returning to Earth.

"Don't rush into anything," he said. "Take a break and get yourself back into top shape first."

He gestured toward her, trying to ease her urgency. "Let me introduce you to the new Avengers I've assembled and fill you in on my plan."

Carol frowned. She understood what Nick meant, but the anxiety gnawed at her. The weight of unresolved galactic responsibilities made it hard to stay grounded.

There was still so much left to deal with out in space, and she couldn't afford to linger on Earth for too long.

She was desperate to resolve the crisis here quickly and return to her work as a space defender.

Noticing her restlessness, Nick softened his tone. "Relax. You've just returned—take a few days to breathe and reconnect with your home planet. You haven't even eaten yet. My treat. You can tell me all about your adventures out there."

Carol knew he meant well. This old friend wanted her to find a bit of peace before the storm.

She sighed and nodded, following him quietly.

As they walked, Nick's thoughts drifted.

Even with Carol back as his ace, he remained cautious about Alex Ray.

It wasn't that he doubted Carol's strength—far from it—but the events that had unfolded at S.H.I.E.L.D. just days ago had left him wary.

He didn't harbor hatred toward Alex. No, this wasn't personal.

To Nick, Alex and his chaotic base in Hell's Kitchen represented an unpredictable variable—dangerous because they answered to no one. Not the government, not S.H.I.E.L.D., not the people.

But if Alex could be brought to heel… if he could be persuaded to join the Avengers… then his power could be redirected into something formidable, something Earth desperately needed.

Even though Nick was on the brink of being stripped of his directorship due to the S.H.I.E.L.D. incident Alex had triggered, he still bore no grudge.

In his mind, if Alex joined the Avengers, everything else—his clashes with Captain America, the damage done to S.H.I.E.L.D.—would pale in comparison to what they could achieve together.

Now that Carol was back, Nick intended to approach Alex one more time. If Alex refused again, then… Nick would have no choice but to eliminate him and his people.

To Nick Fury, it was a matter of survival—his own, and the planet's.

Carol noticed him suddenly stop and furrowed her brow. "What's wrong? Why did you stop?"

She looked around warily, scanning for threats, but sensed no danger.

Nick raised his head toward the gray sky and said calmly, "It's going to rain."

Then, without another word, he resumed walking, leaving Carol blinking in confusion.

"It doesn't look like rain," she thought. "It was clear when I flew in…"

Still puzzled, she followed after him.

. . . . . .

Elsewhere, Alex Ray had just finished explaining the origins and powers of the six Infinity Stones.

Everyone present was spellbound. The mere idea of harnessing such cosmic power stirred wild fantasies in their minds—invincibility, mastery of the universe, the power to reshape destiny. Their pulses quickened at the thought.

Deadpool, of course, was the most animated of all.

He clung tightly to Alex's leg, eyes alight with manic glee, as if he'd just found the golden ticket to every dream he'd ever had.

"Dear Mr. Alex Ray, you have to know where the Mind Stone is! Come on, spill it—I need it!" he begged desperately.

Deadpool had instantly fixated on the Mind Stone. His imagination spiraled out of control.

"With that Stone," he thought, "I could charm anyone. Unlimited girlfriends!"

Then he frowned.

"But wait… wouldn't that be too much? One girl per hour? That's only 24 a day…"

He nodded seriously to himself. "I need to work on my time management skills. Actually… maybe we can multitask."

Saliva dribbled from his mouth onto Alex's leg.

Alex felt the dampness and promptly kicked Deadpool across the room in disgust.

Even without hearing his thoughts, Alex could guess what was going on in Deadpool's depraved mind.

Meanwhile, Wanda and Pietro sat silently, lost in their own thoughts.

If they had the Time Stone, maybe—just maybe—they could bring back their adoptive parents.

But neither of them asked Alex outright. They knew if he had the Time Stone and could use it that way, he would have given it to them already.

What they didn't know was that the Time Stone couldn't save their parents—not the way they hoped.

Harry Osborn, however, couldn't hold back.

"Sir," he asked, "do you know where the Time Stone is? If I get it… can I save my father?"

Others in the room perked up at that—Sandman, who had lost his daughter; John Wick and Doctor Octopus, who had lost their wives; Tony Stark, who had lost his parents.

Alex frowned, then shook his head slowly.

"I did know where it was… once," he said. "It's in the hands of someone I might not be able to beat."

The Ancient One. Too powerful. Too mysterious. Even Alex wasn't sure he could defeat her.

"Also," he continued, "the Time Stone can't bring people back. It's complicated."

He tried to explain simply.

"You can go back to the moment your loved one was alive—but when you return to your present, they'll still be gone. It's a paradox."

He even threw in a basic primer on temporal mechanics for their benefit.

"Lastly, Harry… your universe may be different from ours. I don't even know if the Infinity Stones exist there. There's no Ancient One, no Avengers in your world. You can try to find them, but I can't guarantee anything."

Tony Stark leaned forward, deep in thought.

"Wait… are there really only six Infinity Stones?" he asked. "There's no way there's a seventh, right?"

Alex didn't expect that question. He glanced at Tony with an odd, almost pitying look.

Tony blinked. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

Alex thought, Of course there's a seventh—Knowledge. It might even be sitting in your head, Stark.

But before he could speak, Alex suddenly froze.

Something had changed.

He shot to his feet and raised his voice.

"That's enough for today, everyone. Let's take a break. Get some dinner, introduce yourselves. We'll be working together from now on. I'm heading upstairs."

The others watched him rush off, puzzled and curious but respectful of his sudden exit.

They turned to each other and started mingling, breaking the ice.

Upstairs, Alex opened the door to his room and wasn't surprised to find a bald figure already seated inside.

The Ancient One.

He had sensed the shift in magical energy—her unique aura was unmistakable.

Alex smiled faintly. "Master… I take it you didn't drop by just for tea?"
