"What the hell is written in this newspaper?! How can they slander my territory like this?"

Deadpool threw the newspaper down with a loud thud, grumbling at Alex Ray.

The headline blared across the front page in bold letters:

"The Greatest Evil Force of the 21st Century: Hell's Kitchen"

"Not just that. Practically every newspaper today is filled with stories about Hell's Kitchen," Pietro said, glancing at Alex with concern.

Alex Ray flipped through the paper, his brows furrowing at the onslaught of sensationalist headlines:

"Surprise! He's the Boss Behind Infamous Hell's Kitchen!"

"The Untold Story of Playboy Stark and the Underworld Kingpin!"

"Government Approves Operation to Clean Hell's Kitchen—Three Days to Eliminate the Social Menace!"

Even Alex couldn't hide a trace of surprise at Nick Fury's tactics. The man wasn't just using force—he was now weaponizing public opinion to paint Hell's Kitchen as an irredeemable blight.

To be fair, Hell's Kitchen had once lived up to its name. But since Alex took over, he had invested time, power, and risk to turn things around. It wasn't perfect, but it was changing.

Aunt May noticed the look on Alex's face and understood what he was thinking. She quietly reached for the remote, hoping to switch on something lighthearted to ease the tension.

But as fate would have it, the TV flashed on with a live broadcast of a federal congressman being interviewed.

"Why has the federal government decided to take action against Hell's Kitchen now?" the reporter asked.

The congressman's expression was grim. "This has been a long-standing concern. Our responsibility is to ensure the safety of our citizens. Hell's Kitchen—its people and its environment—is rotten to the core. It's like the sewer of the entire city."

The words struck everyone like a slap to the face. No one had expected such venomous rhetoric. To be labeled as dirty and sinful... it was a public execution of their humanity.

The congressman continued, his voice cold and unwavering: "Hell's Kitchen breeds fear and shame in honest citizens. After extensive planning and cooperation between federal agencies, we've decided to purge this evil place. For the safety of the public, the military has begun mobilizing. We will completely cleanse Hell's Kitchen. Trust your government—we will never tolerate evil!"

Alex's face darkened, his jaw tight. He wasn't angry about being insulted—he had long grown used to it—but seeing the innocent residents of Hell's Kitchen lumped together with criminals made his blood boil.

Most people here weren't evil. They were victims of poverty, of circumstance, of a system that gave them no way out. And now, the government was planning an indiscriminate sweep—an operation that wouldn't spare anyone.

He couldn't allow that.

Aunt May quickly switched the channel again, sensing his growing fury.

But bad luck struck twice. The next broadcast was a street interview segment. A reporter asked passersby what they thought of Hell's Kitchen.

The first was a little girl.

"Do you know about Hell's Kitchen?" the reporter asked.

The girl's eyes widened with fear. "My mom said if I don't behave, she'll send me to Hell's Kitchen… and the devils there will eat me!" She clung to her mother, tears brimming. "I'm a good girl… I don't wanna go there!"

Next up was a teenager on a skateboard.

"Hell yeah I know Hell's Kitchen. That place is a dumpster. All kinds of illegal crap goes down there. I had a buddy who went in and never came back."

Lastly, the reporter interviewed an elderly man.

"Of course I know it!" the man snapped. "Hell's Kitchen has been a cesspool since I was born. Darkness, crime, pain—what else is new? I don't know why the government let it fester this long. Thank God they're finally wiping it out!"

Hearing this barrage of condemnation, Alex's heart sank deeper.

He knew how the world saw Hell's Kitchen—garbage, criminals, a cancer in society. But behind every judgment, there were innocent souls trying to survive in a place life had cornered them into.

He took a long, steady breath.

He wasn't going to let them all be erased.

"Wooohoo! Looks like we're officially the villains now, huh, Alex?" Deadpool said cheerfully, like he was watching a sitcom.

Aunt May turned to Alex with soft eyes. "Don't let it get to you, Mr. Ray. These people… they've never even been to Hell's Kitchen. We know who you really are. And we've seen this place change for the better under your watch."

Pietro stood up and declared with unwavering resolve, "I'll follow you, Alex. No matter where this leads, I'm with you." His eyes burned with loyalty.

Deadpool followed suit, cracking his usual mischievous grin. "And I'll defend the pretty little ladies of Hell's Kitchen! Ain't nobody laying a finger on them while I'm around!" But the seriousness in his eyes told a different story—he meant it.

Alex smiled faintly. "Don't worry. I'm not that fragile. I knew you'd support me. But not everyone in Hell's Kitchen will."

Indeed, the residents had seen the news. Their reactions were scattered, chaotic—just like their lives.

For some, it was another cruel twist of fate. They had tried to live decent lives. They hadn't chosen Hell's Kitchen; Hell's Kitchen had chosen them. Poverty, broken systems, bad luck—those were their crimes.

Alex Ray had given them hope. He had cleaned the streets, cracked down on trafficking, given them a reason to believe change was possible.

Now, that fragile hope was being crushed by tanks and headlines.

Some cried quietly, as if mourning a life not yet lost.

Others exploded with rage. They hurled objects at screens, shattered TVs, and cursed every official and journalist spewing lies. They were ready to fight. Ready to burn down the injustice that had burned them first.

Then there were those who sat still, eyes distant, hearts full of dread. They didn't know what to think anymore. They were born here. Hell's Kitchen wasn't just where they lived—it was who they were. If they left, where would they even go? Who would they become?

And a few turned their pain into blame.

They pointed fingers at Alex Ray.

They whispered bitterly that all of this was his fault—that his provocations had stirred the hornet's nest. That his meddling had drawn the ire of powerful people. That their suffering was the price of his ambition.

But the truth was—Alex never wanted this.

He fought to protect them. He outlawed trafficking and drugs, knowing full well he was stepping on dangerous toes.

He had made enemies. And now those enemies were using the full force of the government against him.

But he wasn't going to run.

And he sure as hell wasn't going to let innocent people pay the price.

Not again.

Not on his watch.
