X-Mansion

James "Logan" Howlett (Wolverine), Ororo Munroe (Storm), and Scott Summers (Cyclops)—three key members of the X-Men—stood closely around Charles Xavier, their leader.

Their eyes brimmed with caution as they glared at the unexpected visitor before them, prepared to strike if he posed even the slightest threat to Professor X.

"Don't be nervous. He won't hurt me. It's been a long time, Erik," Charles said gently yet firmly, breaking the tense silence.

A faint, familiar smile curled on his lips as he faced Magneto—Erik Lehnsherr.

Erik stood tall, clad in his signature black helmet and dark cloak. His expression was complex, eyes laden with history and inner turmoil.

"You shouldn't have gotten involved in this, Charles," he said slowly.

Though Magneto didn't specify what "this" was, Charles understood him perfectly.

He was referring to the X-Mansion's alliance with the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. in their mission to eliminate Hell's Kitchen—currently under the control of Alex Ray.

Charles let out a soft sigh, fully aware of Erik's worries.

They were once close friends, divided by ideology.

Erik believed mutants and humans could never coexist in peace. Charles, on the other hand, was certain peace could be achieved through understanding and communication.

It was the unbridgeable gap between them, the reason reconciliation had always eluded them.

"They promised us a future. If we joined the Avengers, they'd give mutants a true home. A place where we can live with dignity and no longer be feared or rejected."

He paused, his voice steady. "They even promised to build a school for us—where our children could learn and grow like any normal kid, to help them integrate into society."

Storm and Cyclops exchanged conflicted glances.

Neither had expected Charles to join the Avengers for their sake—for the sake of all mutants.

They were touched, yet worried. They knew how heavy that decision had weighed on him.

Then Erik's voice cut in, cold and scathing.

"Did they keep their promise? Where's the home they promised? Where's the school? Why are you still here, Charles?"

The disappointment and disapproval in his tone were undeniable.

Charles hesitated for a second—but quickly composed himself. His eyes lifted to Erik with unwavering resolve.

"They said they'd fulfill those promises after the job was done. I believed them."

Erik scoffed. "You're still so naĂŻve. Do you really think they care about us? They're using you."

His tone sharpened, like a blade stripped of any pretense.

"You know how the federal government works. They smile at your face and stab you in the back. Once Hell's Kitchen is gone, we're next. It's not about justice—it's about control."

His voice grew heavier with every word.

"They fear power. That's what this is about. That's what it's always been about."

"A so-called home? That school? It's all a lie."

Charles was quiet.

He didn't argue. He didn't defend S.H.I.E.L.D. or the Avengers.

He just sat in his wheelchair, contemplative.

Logan took a slow drag from his cigar and stared out the window. His eyes revealed a storm of emotion.

Scott looked over at Charles, concern creeping into his voice.

He didn't fully disagree with what Magneto had said.

"I believe them," Charles finally replied.

"You should know... Hell's Kitchen isn't what you think it is. And I know its leader—Alex Ray. He's not a villain. He's a good man. And his power... you wouldn't understand it," Erik added, trying once more to sway Charles.

That revelation surprised Charles. He hadn't known Erik had met Alex, let alone been to Hell's Kitchen.

"I'm not afraid of you laughing at me," Erik said with a bitter smile. "But I tried to recruit Alex Ray to the Brotherhood once."

"What happened?" Logan asked, speaking for the first time.

Everyone turned to look at him—Logan stared back, confused by the sudden attention.

"I lost," Erik said bluntly. "If Alex hadn't held back, I'd be dead."

A heavy silence fell.

That kind of admission—from Magneto—was staggering.

The idea that Erik Lehnsherr, one of the most powerful mutants alive, had been decisively beaten... and spared?

It shook them to the core.

"You're still willing to lead your people into this?" Erik asked, turning his gaze back to Charles.

He had already swallowed his pride to warn them, to share his humiliating defeat in the hope that Charles would understand.

To his dismay, Charles still didn't waver.

"I'll make the necessary arrangements," Charles said firmly.

Erik gave a bitter smile.

"Some things never change. No matter how many years pass, we remain on opposite sides."

He let out a breath.

"So, the X-Men are going to war?"

"Yes," Charles replied. "We have no choice."

Though calm, his words carried unwavering determination.

Suddenly, Erik's aura erupted like a storm.

The sheer force of it caused an oppressive tension to fill the room. Logan, Ororo, and Scott instantly moved to shield Charles.

But Erik didn't attack.

He turned.

And as he reached the exit, he paused. Glancing over his shoulder, his voice carried a gravity that made the air itself feel heavy.

"Charles, you always think I'm wrong. But this time—it's you. The Brotherhood of Mutants will be in this war too."

Charles' eyes widened.

Why would Erik involve the Brotherhood in a conflict that had nothing to do with them?

To help him?

But Erik's next words cut like a blade.

"But we're siding with Hell's Kitchen—to stop you."

He exited without another word.

The door shut behind him with finality.

Storm and Cyclops stood in shock.

They turned to Charles, who now wore a grave expression.

With Erik's involvement, this war had escalated beyond anything they were prepared for.

"Where can we mutants find a place to belong?"
