Looking around, the sky over New York City was filled with continuous gunfire.
The Chitauri army was highly mobile, their unique spacecraft darting between buildings and spreading out to any location they desired.
They deployed forces wherever they needed them.
At this moment, the entire scene was in chaos.
Arthur leaped over the wreckage of a taxi and joined the group of people nearby.
"What's the situation up top?" Steve asked.
"The portal device cannot be shut down, and the pure energy structure is indestructible," Arthur replied. "We might need something with an equal level of energy to close the portal."
"Loki's magic staff?" Natasha suggested first.
Arthur nodded. "So, we need a plan!"
"Who is he?" Hawkeye asked Natasha.
Natasha answered, "He is the Legend."
Steve said, "I've got the police setting up a perimeter."
At that moment, Tony's voice came through: "Has Banner arrived yet?"
"Speaking of which, where is Banner?" Natasha asked Arthur.
Arthur pondered, "I left him at the SHIELD branch."
Natasha thought for a moment. "Did you go to the women's restroom again? Did anyone notice you?"
"We left before they could come out," Arthur shrugged.
Natasha looked exasperated as she spoke. "Seriously, next time you go there, let me know."
"I will," Arthur said. "I'll find Loki and take the magic staff. Remember the battle plan: first, do not let the battlefield expand. Second, the safety of civilians is the top priority. Third, control the aerial battle as much as possible. I'll figure out how to deal with the portal device on Stark Tower… That's it, the rest is up to you guys."
"Understood!" Steve nodded, and Arthur spread his wings and soared into the sky.
He released The Eye of Horus to locate Loki, but before the search could even start, he saw Loki in a Chitauri spacecraft heading straight for him.
The magic staff in Loki's hand emitted a blue glow as it directly targeted Arthur.
In a flash, Arthur vanished from his original spot. "Come on, we need to settle the score for the trick you pulled on me earlier!"
But Loki only smiled and suddenly turned, flying in a different direction.
"Huh?"
Arthur was momentarily stunned. Loki's actions clearly suggested there was a trap!
"But even if it's a trap, I have to go!"
Arthur sighed and, with a spread of his wings, chased after Loki.
While pursuing, he didn't forget to fire a few shots— maybe he could shoot Loki out of the sky?
Though the bullets didn't hit Loki, they did kill his pilot.
Loki's spacecraft spun wildly and disappeared from Arthur's sight after turning around a building.
Arthur immediately followed, tracking with The Eye of Horus. However, The Eye of Horus provided no trace of Loki, nor was the spacecraft anywhere to be found.
"What's going on?"
Arthur quickly arrived at the scene, looking around in confusion but finding nothing.
While he was still puzzled, a blue light suddenly shot out from a nearby building. The attack was so abrupt that Arthur didn't even have a chance to react before his ankle was entangled. In the next moment, he was forcefully dragged away.
With a crash, he smashed through the glass and fell to the ground.
A strong gust of wind howled above him. Arthur activated his psychic shield just in time to see Loki's magic staff strike the shield forcefully.
The collision caused a massive rebound force, making Loki stumble back two steps.
Arthur reached down and pulled at his ankle, where the blue energy had quickly dissipated.
At that moment, a Chitauri with a distinctly different appearance emerged from a corner. "Is this the troublesome human you mentioned?"
Arthur looked at the newcomer with a curious expression on his face. His attire was notably different from the other Chitauri soldiers and he appeared more regal and distinguished. Coupled with his tone, his attitude towards Loki, and his distinctive mask…
"Are you the leader of the Chitauri?" Arthur asked with a deep frown on his face. "Why are you here?"
No one answered him. Loki merely sneered and said, "Don't underestimate him. Although he's just a human, he possesses the power to challenge gods. That's why I need to join forces with you to defeat him as quickly as possible."
"Just defeat him?"
The Chitauri leader sneered, "I think killing him would be easier."
"No!"
Loki said firmly, "This is my war. I need him."
"Only this once… Don't forget the promise you made to me."
As the leader finished speaking, he suddenly punched Arthur's psychic shield.
With a sharp crack, the shield shattered, and in the next moment, the leader was right in front of Arthur, grabbing him by the neck and tossing him back with immense force. Arthur was propelled at high speed, smashing through several walls before finally crashing through the glass on the other side of the building and disappearing from view.
"Is this really a tough opponent?" The Chitauri leader looked at his hand and cast a disdainful glance at Loki.
Loki's expression darkened, and he leaped after Arthur.
However, upon reaching the window, he still couldn't find any trace of Arthur.
The Chitauri leader followed suit. "I don't think he's worth us teaming up…"
Just as he said this, he was suddenly kicked hard in the rear, and in the next second, he was thrown out, while howling his throat out in pain.
Loki turned around to see Arthur grinning behind him, before saying. "Goodbye!"
With that, Arthur kicked out, and Loki's figure instantly vanished.
Arthur quickly turned around and grabbed Loki's wrist. "Got you!"
"And then?"
Loki smiled and leaped, forcefully pushing Arthur out of the window.
With his wings spread, Arthur twisted Loki's arm but suddenly felt a mysterious force acting on his whole body. His expression changed, and his movements slowed just enough for Loki to slip out of his grasp.
A blue beam wrapped around Loki's waist, instantly transporting him away.
Arthur looked over and saw the Chitauri leader, with a fierce expression on his face, bringing Loki to his side and glaring angrily at Arthur.
Clearly, he was extremely displeased with the recent kick to his ass!
