Chapter 261: MD-Chapter 260 Unexpected Gain
Arthur had always felt that he had a strange sixth sense, though he could never quite pinpoint its source. For example, when he first encountered the Tesseract, he had a strong feeling that once he got involved with it, no good would come of it.
And indeed, he was sent into space.
Later, after the Tesseract found its way back into his hands, that feeling never returned.
Now, as he stood outside this research facility, an inexplicable sensation suddenly arose in his heart. He had the distinct feeling that he was going to find something unexpected here, though he couldn't quite understand what it was.
The feeling was both unsettling and intriguing.
"Unseen and unheard, avoid danger as you sense it," Arthur suddenly remembered a line from the martial arts manual: "Have I really practiced my fighting skills to this level? Or is this the side effect of my spiritual energy growth? Even powerful beings like the Ancient One and Odin can see glimpses of the future. Could this be an easier version of precognition?"
But he quickly shook his head. If he could predict the future, it would lead to many complications.
Such a power wasn't something he wanted.
Instead, it was this feeling that made him cautious.
He stored his "little black one" (probably a reference to a device or object) in the Disassemble room, and with a flash of his figure, Arthur disappeared.
---
In today's world, there were very few places Arthur couldn't go.
This research facility was definitely not one of them.
Like most facilities, this one had part of its structure above ground and part underground. The most important areas were hidden below the surface.
In a few blinks of an eye, Arthur arrived at the prearranged location.
Timing was crucial in this step; entering the right place at the right time would allow him to perfectly avoid patrols and surveillance cameras.
In less than three minutes, Arthur had reached the door of the research lab.
The Eye of Horus scanned the room, and Arthur spotted the Abomination lying on an extra-long, custom-made bed.
He was wearing white shorts and looked like a corpse, his eyes hollow and lifeless, staring at the ceiling...
Who knew what he had been through!
"There's no way there are real perverts in this research lab, right?" Arthur muttered. "But even if there were, they couldn't possibly have any special intentions towards this Abomination."
After all, the Abomination was invulnerable.
The Eye of Horus easily located the power center of the room.
Arthur casually fumbled for a small explosive, placed it, stepped back a few steps, and detonated it.
The next second, the entire research room went completely dark.
"The backup power should kick in within ten seconds..." Arthur mentally calculated, quickly flashing to the Abomination's side and giving him a light pat. The Abomination disappeared from the bed.
Arthur reappeared in front of the research room.
He quickly changed into the clothes he had prepared earlier, changing his appearance to that of a patrolling soldier.
It was then that the chaos really began. Arthur hid in the corner and watched as a group of soldiers appeared to investigate the situation. He blended in with the crowd, pretending to be part of the search party.
When they discovered that the Abomination was missing, the entire research facility went into a frenzy.
Arthur got into the act, running around and pretending to be dedicated to catching the culprit, almost as if he was about to vow to bring the perpetrator to justice.
Just as he was running with two soldiers who were searching the area, Arthur suddenly stopped.
The Eye of Horus detected another hidden research lab beneath them.
Inside, several people in white lab coats were busy working. But what really caught Arthur's attention was the man in the center of the room, whose head was encased in a strange device. The man writhed in pain, his eyes rolling back in agony.
"This..."
Arthur's eyes flickered. "Interrogation, or...?"
With that thought, his figure instantly appeared in the room.
The researchers in white lab coats didn't notice Arthur's sudden appearance. They were busy, some working on computers, others operating various devices.
"Subject 0148, experiment failure, brain death confirmed."
After some time, one of the researchers spoke up and declared the subject dead.
"Change..."
Another researcher began to speak, but when he turned his head, he saw Arthur.
The sight of Arthur, dressed as a patrolling soldier, caused the researcher's expression to change. "Who are you?"
As he spoke, the researcher took two steps back.
Arthur looked around and quickly noticed a hidden button under the control panel.
He smiled slightly, and in an instant, he was blocking the researcher's path. He grabbed the man's neck from behind with one hand. "I'm just a passerby... I happened to see you doing some interesting experiments. How about telling me what you're really doing here?"
"Do you know what you're doing?"
The other researchers, startled, tried to back away. But the one in Arthur's grip shouted at him, "If I scream now..."
Before he could finish, there was a sharp crack.
Arthur had twisted the man's neck, and his head hung lifelessly.
"Oh, dead."
Arthur looked at the lifeless body in his hand and casually dropped it to the ground. Then, with a slight smile, he turned to the remaining researchers. "Don't be afraid. I'm actually quite friendly. I don't like to kill because I'm a superhero. But if you don't cooperate, I may have to use more extreme methods. Now, let me ask you again - what kind of experiment are you conducting here?"
As he spoke, he moved toward one of the computers.
A researcher near the computer quickly stepped back, afraid of being caught and having his neck snapped like the other one.
Arthur casually interacted with the computer for a moment, and his expression changed slightly.
The computer contained an enormous amount of information.
The names of subjects used for hypnosis and brainwashing experiments, all labeled as "test subjects."
Below the list of test subjects were their actual profiles, which made Arthur's blood run cold.
"Rising business stars, political figures..."
Arthur narrowed his eyes. "You really dare to do this?"
"This has nothing to do with us."
One of the researchers, visibly nervous under Arthur's gaze, stepped forward and said quickly, "We're just researchers! If we don't do this, we'll die too!"
Before he could finish, Arthur saw another researcher rush forward. Without anyone noticing, the researcher pulled out a gun and pointed it at the back of the man who had just spoken. As he prepared to pull the trigger, his eyes shifted to Arthur.
