Chapter 52: Ch. 52 - Lucifer!
That man is Lucifer Morningstar, the King of the Devils.
These same words resonated within me as my eyes were glued to the man himself. His aura radiated so much that I knew I couldn't afford to take a peek at his demonic energy.
If I did, I might lose my composure and burn my eyes here, causing an unnecessary scene.
"Good evening, my glorious pawns." Raising his arms, a hint of arrogance flared on Lucifer's face as his shiny silver hair mixed with his royal clothing gave him a weird purple glow that stood out.
'Glorious pawns? I wonder why no one felt offended by those.' Looking around, the old devils around me showed no signs of hostility or getting offended by Lucifer's words.
'He truly lives up to his King of Devils title. Such arrogance against his own kin and yet no one can get angry at him.' I softly chuckled under my breath. Obviously, I'm included among those who aren't offended but for a different reason.
Their reason is because they're too scared and weak to shout that they're upset but for me, it's because I don't see myself as a devil and will never be one.
It's like I'm telling everyone that I identify myself as a human even though I have devil blood flowing through my veins.
It sounds dumb, I know but it has its perks.
"Next month shall be the day that we end the war and watch as God falls from his grace!" As Lucifer finished his words that were supposed to raise the 'morale' of his fellow devils, the old devils simply nodded their heads in agreement and clapped their hands.
The two other men and woman who I assumed as the other Satans beside him simply nodded their heads. However, I can see the mockery and arrogance in their eyes.
The kinds of people who think that the world revolves around them. That they're the center of the universe.
I've seen many of their kind along with the consequences of their arrogance.
In the meantime, his words caused me to raise an eyebrow.
It looks like Lucifer also has his own G-pass if he was able to utter God's name without being zapped on the floor. Interesting.
Now that I've met the man face-to-face, I remembered about my wings issue and what Serafall told me about it.
The man standing in front of so many people is said to be the only one to possess more than one pair of wings. Not even the other Satans standing side by side with him have it.
Before I could dwell on such thoughts further, I felt the presence of a devil approaching us.
"It is a pleasure to meet you again, Zekram." Surprisingly it was a young devil, the youngest among the bunch of old devils surrounding them.
"It's good to see you too, Rizevim." This man wears the same silver hair as Lucifer in front but unlike the latter, Rizevim's face seems to be more tamed and looks like it hasn't experienced challenges and problems yet.
'This man looks familiar.' I squinted my eyes at him, why does his hair remind me of someone I just saw?
"Whose your companion, Zekram?" Finishing their topic, the silver-haired man with a small silver goatee then shifted their discussion to me, who was just meekly standing on the side to not draw much attention.
"A-ah, he's one of my most trusted partners, Chamber. He once took a holy spear on the chest for me. So I trust him." Zekram's smile strained slightly upon the mention of my existence but thankfully, his years of scheming helped him hide it and swiftly introduced me.
To my surprise, he regarded me as his partner instead of a subordinate. Looks like what he said earlier had a hint of truth, he wanted to see me as an ally.
I mean, Zekram could've just called me his subordinate or right-hand man and I wouldn't be able to do anything but to grit my teeth however, now my 'status' was elevated and instead of subordinate, I'm now his partner.
And what's with these lame excuses of taking a holy spear to the chest for him? Last time it was Serafall whom I 'took' a Demonic Bullet to the chest for her and now Zekram with the Holy Spear instead.
Is this how allies are made in this world? Taking attacks on their chests?
"Nice to meet you, Chamber. Hope this won't be the last time we see each other." Rizevim bore a smile on his face as he offered a handshake.
Obviously, I took it and then decided to bring in the ultimate technique.
"I'm sorry but I think I saw you somewhere, do we know each other?" I said while still shaking his hand.
"Haha! I'm definitely sure we haven't but I think I know why you think I'm familiar." With a chuckle, Rizevim looked behind him and pointed at a certain figure as he spoke.
"That man over there is my father. We kinda look alike except that I decided to grow my goatee so people could tell us apart."
"…I'm sorry I think my vision is getting blurry, but are you pointing at Luc-Lord Lucifer?" Running my eyes, I asked for confirmation.
"Yes, Lucifer's my dad. You can tell it just from our hair color. Only the Six Houses of Lucifer along with our Morningstar clan have silver hair colors." Rizevim explained.
"Six Houses of Lucifer?" I shifted the topic with another question upon being introduced to a new info.
"Yes. Six Houses of Lucifer, it's kind of similar to the 72 pillars but it only belongs to only my father. Those houses are the House Lucifuge, House Nebiros, House Satanachia, House Algaliarept, House Fleurity, and finally, the House Sargatanas."
'Six Houses similar to pillars all under Lucifer's command? His force is stronger than I thought.' I muttered under my breath, surprise evident in my tone.
"I'm surprised you didn't know about it, it's like a common knowledge by every devil in the Underworld." Rizevim continued, chuckling at my lack of knowledge. However, on the outside, he might be laughing, but I can see in his eyes that he's grown suspicious of me.
God dammit, I should've just kept the question to myself.
"Hahaha! Well, Rizevim, you know how devils are nowadays, their heads are filled with fulfilling the ambitions of the Great Lucifer to the point that they even forget their own names." Thankfully, Zekram came to the rescue, swooping in at the perfect time.
"I see. Well, winning the war is more important than knowing miscellaneous things so it's understandable." Rizevim shrugged his shoulders and said, causing me to mentally sigh in relief.
"Anyways, I'll leave you two gentlemen for now. I have some matters to catch up with the others." With a nod of approval towards me, Rizevim took a small sip of his wine before leaving.
Turning to Zekram to apologize for almost blowing our cover, he beat me to it.
"I should've told you this information first before bringing you here." Zekram sighed, owning up to the mistake.
"What should we do next?" I whispered back, low enough to the point that even the sharp ears of the devils around me would be unable to hear.
"We'll stay around. The Satans surely have more to announce than that." Zekram replied, his eyes staying on Lucifer's figure from a distance.
True to Zekram's words, Lucifer gathered everyone's attention as his announcement caused murmurs and whispers around.
"We have allied with the Fallen Angels. They would be willing to give us a hand to fight God!" Lucifer yelled with a snarky tone.
"Allied with the Fallen Angels." I hear Zekram mutter to himself, his eyes squinting as he continued.
"I should've expected this." He continued.
"Will there be any change to the plans?" I asked in which the devil shook his head.
"No, in fact, this might even benefit us. I don't trust that Azazel, he surely have his own motives for allying with Lucifer. We might gain ourselves an ally against the Six Houses and those that are loyal to the Four Satans." He concluded.
"Azazel?" I said confusedly.
"He's the current leader of the Fallen Angels, or Grigori as he likes to call themselves. They're the weakest among the three factions but that doesn't make them weak in a literal sense. They still have access to the holy light, hence fighting them is like fighting the Angels themselves, quite troublesome especially considering that they're immune to the weakness of the Angels."
"Weakness? Angels have weakness?"
"Of course. Their weakness is that they cannot commit a sin, Angels cannot sin because of they do, they'll fall from grace. So they mustn't feel lust, wrath, pride, greed, sloth and glutonny. One of those is enough to bring even the strongest of Angels, down from Big G'a embrace."
"So what you're saying is that both devils and angels have their respective weaknesses but the fallen angels doesn't, how is it that they're the weakest then?"
"One answer. Population and lack of strong leader. Devils have the Four Satans, Angels have Big G, however, the Grigori only have Azazel and some Archangels. They're strong sure, but nowhere near as strong as Lucifer or Big G."
Hearing his explanation, I couldn't help but marvel at the new information.
So in the end, the strength of a force resides within its leader. If the leader is weak, the entire force would be too. But if the leader is strong, even if his force is weak, it would be considered as strong.
While thinking of this, I couldn't help but wander to myself and the force I'm trying to build.
I lack everything that a strong force has. Population, strong leader, and strong subordinates.
I don't have even one of those.
Thinking about this, I clenched my fists and my determination to increase both my strength and the Mystic Society grew.
I should focus on myself first. I can gather at least 10 students and train them until they're strong enough to take down at least an Ultimate-class before granting them the title of a Master.
If in the Marvel Universe, all it takes is to learn the Mirror Dimension to be considered a Master Sorcerer, mine would be different.
I want them to be able to go toe to toe with an Ultimate-class being before being deemed as a Mastsr Sorcerer.
"…ber. Chamber!" Suddenly, I was snapped out from my thoughts by Zekram's voice.
"Huh?"
"The meeting came to an end. It's time to go back."
I was about to nod my head when suddenly, my eyes caught a glimpse of something that sent chills up on my spine.
Lucifer Morningstar himself, was staring straight at me, ignoring the calls of the other old devils around him, even his own son.
Our eyes met and suddenly, I felt a spark inside me as pressure descended over my shoulders.
At the same time, a voice spoke to my head.
["You smell familiar. Who are you?"]
Despite hearing the voice for the first time, I already knew who it belongs to.
It's Lucifer.
["I don't understand, Lord Lucifer. I'm just a humble devil…"]
Responding in kind, I continued to stare at his eyes and a few seconds have passed as Lucifer finally shifted his attention elsewhere, as if our talk hadn't just happened.
"What's wrong? You paced out for almost a minute. Are you okay?" Zekram shook my shoulders, bringing me back to reality.
"Are you okay?"
Hearing his words, I nodded my head while contemplating whether I should tell him about my short but meaningful encounter with Lucifer.
However, reminding myself that Zekram also have his own motives that he's hiding from me, I decided against telling him.
If there's someone I could trust in this universe, that would be myself or God.
Giving Lucifer who was busy talking to his son, Rizevim, a one last look, I followed Zekram out of the meeting room.
