Johnny Blaze, that reckless daredevil, after so many years, felt a surge of overwhelming emotion erupt from his long-dead heart the moment he saw his journalist ex-girlfriend again—emotions so intense even he couldn't believe it.
So, just before the death-defying stunt show, he agreed to be interviewed by her—and during that talk, he realized one thing:
He still had feelings for her.
And right after the show ended, he raced out of the stadium, chasing after her.
If he missed this chance, he knew he might never get another one.
He was like a madman, yet one driven by reason, speeding down the highway. When he caught up to her news van, he pulled up right alongside it.
"Roxanne!"
Johnny Blaze grinned at his ex-girlfriend through the windshield and blew her a kiss.
Roxanne Simpson glanced at him indifferently. The memory of the time he promised to run away with her, only to leave her waiting alone in the pouring rain all night, resurfaced with a wave of bitterness.
She turned to the cameraman seated beside her. Seeing the way he was exchanging curious looks with Johnny—like he might sell her out at any moment—she snapped coldly, "If you even think about stopping, don't bother coming back to the station."
The driver forced a polite smile at Johnny Blaze and said, "She's the boss."
And with that, he slammed the accelerator down, leaving Johnny in the dust behind the van.
But just seconds later, Johnny caught up again, knocked on the window, and gave them a brilliant smile.
Roxanne tossed her long brown hair and turned her head to the other side, deliberately ignoring him.
Johnny took a deep breath, then suddenly accelerated ahead, swerved sharply, and brought his motorcycle to a skidding stop directly in the van's path.
"Ahhh!"
The driver cried out in alarm, stomping on the brakes, while Roxanne's face went pale with shock.
Skrrt!
The tires screeched violently, smoking as the van slid forward—coming to a halt just inches from Johnny Blaze.
The driver gasped for breath, still shaken, while Roxanne stormed out of the van, furious.
"You maniac!" she yelled.
"I'm crazy for you," Johnny replied with a smile, finding her anger strangely beautiful.
He parked his motorcycle securely and walked slowly toward her.
"What is this supposed to mean?" Roxanne snapped. "Did you forget what you did back then? What's the point of all this now, I—"
Before she could finish, Johnny pulled her into a hug.
"It's so good to see you again," he murmured. "You're not married yet. That makes me really happy."
Roxanne's body weakened slightly, but she still struggled to break free, trying to stay rational.
But then Johnny kissed her—hard—and her mind went completely blank.
That familiar feeling… the taste she hadn't forgotten.
Roxanne suddenly pushed Johnny away, her expression conflicted, emotions she had tried to suppress bubbling to the surface.
"Tomorrow night. Eight o'clock. At the Blue Gold Hotel restaurant," she said, her voice trembling.
Johnny's eyes lit up with joy.
He knew exactly what her words meant. Grinning wide, his white teeth gleamed. "I'll be there. No matter what!"
Roxanne rolled her eyes at him, shoved a business card with her contact info into his hand, and turned back toward the van.
Before getting in, she looked back and said firmly, "Don't be late."
Johnny pressed a kiss to the business card, then let out a loud cheer as he watched her drive away.
But what he didn't see—what no one saw—was an old man standing silently in the middle of the road, leaning on a cane, smiling as he watched Johnny's celebration.
Whoosh!
A truck roared by, and the old man vanished like a phantom.
Agricultural Expo
Despite the name, which might sound dull and rural—like a simple farm product fair—this expo was actually a massive celebration.
Besides the display of agricultural goods, there were all kinds of competitive games with prizes, gambling-style cowboy shows, animal races with betting, a wide variety of snacks, amusement rides—and even a beauty pageant.
After sleeping in for once, Mike and the two girls arrived at the fairgrounds.
As soon as they got out of the car, the vibrant sounds of the crowd overwhelmed them.
Gwen grabbed both Mike and Raven by the hands and dashed to the ticket booth. She bought three tickets, then ran excitedly through the entrance.
"Over here!" she called, jogging ahead. She waved at them, stood in front of a country band for barely three seconds, then zipped off toward a food stand.
The smell of grilled skewers filled the air, and Gwen swallowed her saliva as she looked up at Mike.
They hadn't eaten breakfast—oversleeping had thrown off their routine.
Mike nodded, and Gwen ordered three skewers, handing one each to Mike and Raven. She chomped happily into hers while her eyes began darting around.
There was too much fun and food here—no way a couple of skewers were going to fill her up.
"Hurry, hurry!" she said, already spotting her next target.
"Go for it!"
"Hahaha!"
Suddenly, Gwen's attention was caught by a burst of loud cheering not far away. She glanced back at Mike and Raven, and seeing them following behind, she relaxed, happily munching on her meat skewer as she jogged toward the commotion.
She tried to push through the crowd, but it was so packed that she couldn't squeeze in. Just as she was getting frustrated, Mike lifted her up and extended his arm, letting her sit securely on it.
Gwen wrapped her arms around Mike's neck and finally got a clear view of what everyone was so excited about.
Her eyes lit up, and she exclaimed, "Piglet racing!"
"Go! Go! Go!" she shouted, cheering for the last pig in the race.
Mike looked over.
Heh!
Honestly, watching a bunch of chubby piglets snorting and racing along... they actually looked kind of delicious.
A few seconds later, the piglet race ended. Gwen watched the last piglet cross the finish line and shook her head.
"Sigh, no motivation at all. That's what you get for eating too much and getting fat," she muttered.
"Pfft!"
Raven couldn't help but burst out laughing. She reached over and pinched Gwen's cheek. "Getting chubbier. Feels better every time I do that."
Gwen blinked, then suddenly yelped, "I am NOT getting fat!"
"Haha!"
Mike set Gwen down and said with a chuckle, "Even if you were a little chubby, Daddy wouldn't mind."
"Ahhh! I'm not chubby!" Gwen puffed out her cheeks and grabbed Mike's face, pulling hard. "You're the chubby one, Daddy!"
Mike took a deep breath, puffing out his cheeks in return.
"Gahaha!"
Seeing Mike's silly expression, Gwen burst out laughing. Raven stood to the side, watching the father and daughter with a soft, affectionate gaze.
"Daddy! Put me down, I wanna go over there."
Mike gently lowered the little one, and Gwen looked back at him and Raven. Waving her tiny hand, she said, "I'll go play by myself. I won't run off. You two go have your romantic time!"
She took off running, but after a few steps, she stopped, turned around, and shook her tiny fist at them.
"I'm warning you—don't follow me, or I won't go easy on you!"
With that, Gwen dashed off into the crowd.
