Gwen watched the two people walk away quickly, then turned to look at Carrie.
None of them were ordinary.
From their conversation just now, she realized that much. But strangely, she didn't feel afraid.
Because her father was right here.
"Carrie? Sis, is your name Carrie?"
Gwen looked up at her.
Carrie nodded, a bit nervously, and said, "Those two just now were crazy. You don't need to worry about them."
"Oh!"
Gwen responded obediently, then added, "I won't tell my brother."
Carrie paused for a moment, then chuckled softly.
If her classmates had been as friendly and sweet to her back then, maybe she wouldn't have turned out the way she did.
But... this wasn't so bad either.
Carrie thought silently, then smiled at Gwen and said, "Come on, I'll take you to play some other games."
"Yay!"
Elsewhere, the Water Demon and Earth Demon moved through the crowd, looking very upset.
They hadn't expected that woman to be so terrifying.
Only now did they realize that Blackheart liked her not just because of her beauty—but also her incredible power.
The memory of being controlled by an invisible force, like puppets completely cut off from their own bodies, filled them with lingering fear.
"Let's go get something to eat."
The Earth Demon suggested, his eyes scanning the crowd in search of prey.
The Water Demon agreed without objection.
They had come here to hunt souls. Running into Carrie had just been an accident.
Suddenly, a man appeared, walking straight toward them. Their gazes locked on him simultaneously.
Dangerous—extremely dangerous!
The moment they saw him, they felt as though something terrifying had fixed its gaze on them.
A second later, both of them turned to flee without hesitation.
But before their feet could even leave the ground, they froze like statues.
An invisible mental force locked them in place—freezing even their thoughts.
Even as demons with powerful souls, they had no resistance against a force of this magnitude.
Not far away, Mike manipulated their bodies to a secluded corner and placed his hand on their foreheads.
A terrifying psychic force ravaged their minds, violently searching for the information Mike wanted.
Blackheart's henchmen? After the San Venganza Contract?
The woman was named Carrie—the one Blackheart was chasing.
Blackheart wasn't here right now. He was out searching for the contract with the Wind Demon. These two had only come here looking for a little food.
Having obtained what he needed, Mike withdrew his hand. The demons' souls, completely shredded, caused them to collapse instantly.
He instinctively reached for a Fire Release card to incinerate the bodies, but paused.
"Uh... this location isn't ideal for burning things..."
Rubbing his chin in thought, Mike stood there for a few seconds before manifesting a new technique.
Lava Release: Technique of the Melting Beast.
He muttered the words internally, then pressed his hand forward. A glob of acid appeared and fell onto the corpses.
The acid was both sticky and highly corrosive. As soon as it landed, it engulfed the bodies completely.
One second… two seconds…
The corpses collapsed inward, completely dissolved without a trace.
Mike looked on in surprise and muttered, "That worked better than expected... I should make some cards for this technique."
A moment later, he vanished from where he stood and reappeared beside Raven.
Raven looked at him and asked, "How did it go?"
"Handled," Mike replied flatly.
Just two worthless demons—how dare they even think of harming Gwen.
"Let's go find Gwen," Raven said anxiously. "I don't feel at ease."
There was still a woman with Gwen. While she didn't seem to have any ill intent, she was still a demon, and Raven didn't trust her.
Mike nodded, and the two of them headed toward Gwen.
At that moment, Gwen and Carrie were playing a goldfish scooping game.
The stall owner nearby looked increasingly unhappy.
The paper scoops were supposed to break easily—making it hard to catch even one fish. Yet Gwen had already scooped up over twenty little goldfish.
"Haha! This is awesome! Another one!"
Gwen cheered excitedly. Noticing the owner's darkened expression, she giggled and tugged Carrie's sleeve. "Sis, let's go."
Carrie nodded, picked up the small glass fishbowl, and handed it to Gwen.
Gwen's eyes sparkled. She handed the bowl to the stall owner and said, "Mister, if you refund our money, we'll give you all the fish back."
The stall owner immediately pulled out five yuan and handed it over.
Gwen took the money, waved it at Carrie, and said with a grin, "Sis, we made a profit!"
Carrie smiled and nodded, finding Gwen more and more likable. "How did we make a profit?"
"We had fun—and didn't spend a single penny."
Gwen giggled and added, "Sis, let me treat you to something to eat!"
Just as the two turned to leave, Mike and Raven appeared before them.
"Dad," Gwen called out, holding Carrie's hand as she smiled at the two of them. "I was just about to go get food with this big sis."
"Gwen, come here for a moment,"
Raven smiled gently at Gwen, but her eyes remained sharply focused on Carrie, filled with caution.
Carrie let go of Gwen's hand and took a small step back. "I mean no harm," she said softly.
The pressure she felt from Mike was immense.
"I know," Mike replied calmly. Once Raven had taken Gwen's hand, he reached out and tapped Gwen's nose before turning to Carrie with a neutral expression. "If you meant any harm, you wouldn't still be standing."
Carrie's eyes narrowed slightly, and her thoughts immediately went to the Earth and Water Demons who had fled just moments ago.
"Dad, this sis is Brother Clark's classmate," Gwen explained quickly.
Mike gave a small nod. "I remember you. Weren't you taken by Mephisto? How did you end up mixed up with Blackheart?"
Before Carrie could reply, Mike continued, "Blackheart's after the San Venganza Contract, right? Are you also after it?"
Carrie's pupils contracted. A strange sense of fear crept over her.
She felt completely exposed—seen through.
Mike looked at her and smiled faintly. "Go ahead. Tell me—what do you want the contract for?"
The overwhelming pressure radiating from Mike made Carrie pause—but then she let out a light laugh. "As expected of his father… you really are something."
With that subtle praise, she slowly began to explain.
Blackheart, the son of Mephisto—the Lord of Hell.
As demons, the relationship between father and son was anything but friendly.
Blackheart wanted to overthrow his father, take his place as the new ruler of Hell, maybe even forge his own dominion. That's why he came to the human world in search of power—and the San Venganza Contract was the key to it.
The San Venganza Contract was made years ago between Mephisto and every single soul in a village called San Venganza.
He had helped the village—but in return, he turned all its residents into corrupted worshippers. Their souls were soaked in sin.
When these people died, they didn't pass on peacefully—they became wrathful, evil spirits. One thousand of them.
A terrifying source of power.
According to the original deal, Mephisto was supposed to collect those souls.
But when the villagers died, the one sent to collect them rebelled—taking the contract and vanishing without a trace.
Without the contract, the agreement couldn't be fulfilled.
