"The X-Men are rushing to the battlefield as fast as they can."
"Iron Man, who was nearby, has joined the fight. The other Avengers are also en route."
"The military has begun mobilizing, and all available police forces have been deployed."
As Maria Hill delivered her rapid-fire report, Nick Fury's face grew increasingly grim.
It would take time for the military to organize a large-scale counterattack—and time was exactly what they lacked right now.
As for the police…
At best, they could help evacuate civilians and rescue innocents. Their impact on this battle was extremely limited.
The X-Men would still need time to arrive, and the Avengers were not fully assembled yet.
Time was everything now.
With every passing second, hordes of enemies were pouring out of the space portal. Tony alone couldn't possibly stop the flood.
Wearing his Iron Man suit, Tony Stark darted through a storm of energy beams. One after another, micro-missiles—targeted precisely by J.A.R.V.I.S.—took down enemies with surgical accuracy. But against the endless invasion force, it was like holding up an umbrella in a torrential downpour—completely ineffective.
In Manhattan, the invaders spread like a swarm of locusts.
If this continued, they would soon overrun the entire city. The whole metropolis would become a warzone.
"Have we contacted Mike?"
Nick Fury muttered under his breath, a hint of urgency in his tone.
If they could just locate Mike and use his teleportation ability, they could rapidly gather the superheroes and deploy them to defensive positions to intercept the enemies surging into Manhattan.
Maria Hill shook her head.
Nick Fury couldn't help but curse, "Damn it, Mike!"
Just then, his phone rang.
He glanced at the number and quickly answered.
"Mike! Damn it, where the hell are you?!"
Mike replied, "Uh, I was just having dinner at a Michelin-starred restaurant near Madison Square."
Their restaurant had been far enough from the space portal that the fighting had only just reached that area.
"Do you have any idea—"
"Is now really the time for that?" Mike cut him off.
Fury was momentarily speechless, then quickly said, "We need you to teleport the Avengers and the X-Men to the battlefield. They'll take too long to get there on foot."
"Are they traveling in oxcarts or something?"
Mike snarked, then, after confirming their locations, summoned two golden cards and opened two teleportation portals.
Two golden portals appeared in the streets, through which the X-Men and Avengers emerged one by one.
Charles, Raven, Emma, Logan, Remy LeBeau, Scott, Hank McCoy, Jean, Ororo, Wanda, Pietro...
Everyone from Xavier's School who was combat-ready had arrived.
As for the Avengers—
Bruce, Steve, and Tony—who had already joined—were the only ones, making their team seem somewhat underwhelming by comparison.
In the next moment, Mike opened another portal leading to the Helicarrier. Natasha and Barton stepped out.
Even so… compared to the X-Men, the Avengers' lineup still felt rather sparse.
Steve gripped his shield tightly and, watching the incoming wave of enemies, quickly said, "I need to know exactly how far the enemy has spread. We need to lock down this area."
Just as he finished speaking, Tony's voice rang in his earpiece.
"First, Second, and Third Avenue, Madison Avenue, Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh…"
Tony's voice was icy. Then, unable to hold back, he snapped, "If we don't stop them soon, they'll spread even farther!"
Steve looked at Mike and said, "Mike! Open the gates!"
As Tony reported the enemy's positions, Steve had already mapped out the battlefield in his head.
Mike gave a quick reply. Cards appeared between his fingers. With each command from Steve, he opened a new portal, teleporting the X-Men and Avengers to their assigned locations.
In an instant, a defensive network formed by superheroes took shape.
Hawkeye and Cyclops stood atop a high vantage point, attacking enemies while monitoring their movements and reporting updates.
Beast and Wolverine tore through the streets below, savagely cutting down enemy after enemy.
Gambit and Black Widow weaved fluidly through the chaos of the battlefield.
Wanda and Pietro, the twin siblings, fought side-by-side with seamless coordination, shredding a charging enemy together.
As Jean and Raven prepared to move out, Mike grabbed Raven's hand. A glowing card appeared at his fingertips.
Card name: Tsunade.
The card dissolved into shimmering light, and a golden-haired, curvaceous woman's silhouette materialized behind Raven before merging into her body.
"Be careful."
Mike gave Raven a nod. Feeling the surge of power within her, she left with Jean.
The remaining X-Men on site were now Charles, Emma, and Ororo.
Steve turned to Charles and asked, "Can those things be controlled?"
"Absolutely not," Emma replied immediately, even before Charles could speak.
Charles added seriously, "They resemble machines more than living beings."
And that was exactly why—in the original timeline—once the portal closed and the Chitauri mothership was destroyed, the invaders on Earth fell silent.
In other words…
Mike looked up toward the portal in the sky.
If they could take out the mothership up there, the Chitauri would become useless.
A critical piece of intel flashed in his mind.
Steve then gave new orders to Charles and Emma, instructing them to use their powers to calm the nearby civilians and guide them toward shelters.
Both nodded.
Charles looked at Mike and blinked. Then, using his telepathy, he linked the two of them.
"Dad, I've already contacted Erik. He and the Brotherhood are standing by. When the coast is clear, bring them in. They're still on that island he mentioned before."
"Got it."
Mike responded, then added, "Go."
As he spoke, another card appeared between his fingers. He activated it, and a protective spirit merged into Charles's body.
On a battlefield this chaotic, Charles needed some protection.
"Lastly…"
Steve turned to Ororo and said, "Your role is critical."
Ororo raised her head and pointed toward the distant space portal. "That one?"
Steve nodded. "Block it!"
Ororo nodded in return. A breeze began to stir as she rose into the air. With a wave of her hand, dark clouds and fierce winds began to gather under her control. Bolts of lightning—like serpentine dragons—danced through the sky, striking the portal with explosive force.
Steve glanced at Mike and Bruce, then beckoned Bruce over.
"We're going to provide support. As for Mike…"
He adjusted the shield in his hand and handed Mike an in-ear communicator.
"You're on your own. Find a way to shut that thing down!"
