Chapter 24: Chapter 22: The Vision of the "Future"

Seeing the situation, Nick Fury said helplessly:
"Miss Potts, we don't wish for this either, but if you want to find Stark, I suggest you listen to us."
"You don't want Stark to be lost forever," Hermione silently added in her heart.
With a light wave of her wand, she lifted the Stalom Curse, allowing Pepper to regain her mobility. She staggered slightly but managed to stay upright.
Pepper quickly brushed off these minor inconveniences, rushing to Hermione and crouching down, her eyes filled with hope.
"Child... No, Miss Wizard, is there a way you can find Tony?"
Pepper adapted quickly.
Hermione nodded slowly, "Pretty sister, just stand here and don't move."
Pepper nodded eagerly, like a chick pecking at grains.
All eyes were on Hermione, who had closed her eyes, pointed her wand upward, and was softly muttering an incomprehensible incantation.
"Balabala, Makabaka, Bakabaka, Makabaka, Gunara God of Darkness..."
Colors danced across the ceiling, reflecting a cosmic starry sky.
The mystical atmosphere heightened the tension, as everyone watched intently, not wanting to miss any change.
A minute later, Hermione opened her eyes and looked at Pepper.
"Okay."
"Huh? That's it?" The four present were puzzled.
They expected some strange image to appear, but nothing happened—it was over.
"But... there's nothing here," Pepper pointed to the crystal ball, questioning.
Shouldn't it work like they imagined, with images materializing inside the crystal ball?
Hermione saw through their thoughts and rolled her eyes.
"The prophecy is in my mind, not the crystal ball. I see the future, so it's in my head. Why would it show up there?"
Silence followed.
What now? It made sense, but they were left speechless.
"Then how..."
Hermione seemed exasperated: How do you expect to see the images in my head? We need a way for you to see them too!
"So that's why we need a crystal ball; it can channel your magic and display what you see!"
Natasha chimed in.
"...No, actually, a TV would work too, but I thought the crystal ball seemed cooler."
Hermione lowered her head, her fingers fidgeting sheepishly, feeling a bit embarrassed.
Nick Fury: "..."
Natasha: "..."
Coulson: "..."
Pepper: "..."
"So it needed to be a flawless crystal ball because..."
"Well... because it looks nice."
After that, Hermione quickly hugged the crystal ball, as if fearing Fury might take it back. "This is mine now."
Was I just conned? Fury's expression froze.
After years as director of S.H.I.E.L.D., always the one pulling the strings, he found himself outwitted by a child for the first time.
Stay calm... Nick Fury took a deep breath, lamenting the expensive decoration he'd unwittingly purchased. He reminded himself, she's just a child.
"Hehehe..." Hermione caressed the crystal ball, clearly pleased with her new possession.
Fury's expression darkened further.
"Wait, I'll pull what I saw from my head first."
Hermione, seeing she'd pushed enough, pointed her wand at her temple, extracting several bright filaments, which she then transferred to the crystal ball.
The filaments floated like dandelion seeds, merging into the crystal ball.
The next moment, the crystal ball glowed brightly, like a phone screen lighting up.
Images began to appear.
Though silent, Pepper felt a bit embarrassed watching scenes featuring herself, as if her privacy were being displayed publicly.
Most importantly, she hadn't experienced any of it yet.
Prophecy... Is this what's to come?
The others watched the surreal scene unfold, each lost in thought.
"Tony, I see Tony!"
Pepper exclaimed suddenly.
Everyone focused intently.
One scene showed Pepper at the airport, wearing a white suit, looking anxious as if awaiting someone.
The scene shifted, revealing a figure exiting a plane, one hand bandaged. He appeared injured, but his spirits seemed high.
It was Tony Stark.
Though fragmented, these glimpses offered enough for analysis.
"Does this mean..."
Pepper looked at Hermione, seeking confirmation.
Hermione nodded, serious this time, "Don't worry, he's fine. Even if something happens now, he'll ultimately be safe and rescued."
"Because this is the future!"
Hermione spread her arms wide, as if embracing the sun.
Two out of ten for theatrics.
But no one paid attention to her antics. After relief came shock and awe.
Previously, Nick Fury and the others could rationalize the wizard's magic, but the "prophecy" left them unsettled.
Foretelling the future!
It might sound harmless, but in some ways, it's the most terrifying ability.
With such power, what intelligence couldn't S.H.I.E.L.D. acquire?
Sadly, only wizards wield this power. No matter Hermione's strength, she isn't part of S.H.I.E.L.D.
If S.H.I.E.L.D. had its own wizard... The thought jolted Nick Fury, sparking an idea.
His gaze on Hermione intensified, as if seeing a treasure, making Hermione uncomfortable.
In truth, prophecy wasn't Hermione's forte.
Even if it existed, she couldn't wield it yet.
She merely extracted scenes from "Iron Man" from her memory.
It sounded advanced, but it was a basic application of Legilimency.
Mind extraction, one of the most advanced magics, encompassed memory extraction, development, invasion (Legilimency), mind reading, disguise, Occlumency, and more. The library only covered memory extraction and development.
[Legilimency (disabled): development]
[Extracts part of its memory screen and displays it on a reflective object.]
Not even rated.
But this simple trick was enough to fool S.H.I.E.L.D.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, movie scenes are, in a sense, their real future.
Pepper, initially relieved, now seemed worried again: "But what do we do now?"
They knew Tony would eventually be saved, but not how to save him.
"Just carry on as usual, as if today never happened," Hermione advised. "Especially avoid altering actions based on future knowledge. Don't skip what's needed because you think the future is set."
"Never let prophecies dictate reality," she warned, her demeanor unusually serious.
"You must understand, the future... is not fixed!"
