"You can look out the window now and tell me how it feels to be watched by a panda," Adams teased, nodding toward the window.

George and the others turned to see Big White, who moments ago seemed lifeless, now lounging at the window, munching on cookies and watching the spectacle.

The atmosphere froze for a moment.

Caught mid-bite, Big White paused, realizing he'd been spotted. With a sheepish grin, he stuffed the remaining cookies into his mouth and retreated back to the fence, pretending nothing had happened. His noisy chewing was comically audible.

---

"I didn't notice when I was asleep, but now I can't stop munching," he thought.

"Those were the cookies I got from Little John today," Gwen sighed, eyeing the empty package.

"Given its behavior, its intelligence rivals that of humans. We should start by meeting its first demand: have the Smithsonian Zoo staff leave," Adams stated.

"But..." the director began, only to be interrupted by Adams.

"You need to leave too."

The staff holding tranquilizer guns glanced uncertainly at their director.

"That's impossible! We borrowed this panda from the Eastern Land after years of negotiation. We can't just give it up," the director protested. He understood the panda's value and was reluctant to let it go.

"I'll discuss this with Congressman Metz and the Eastern Embassy. You must realize this panda's significance surpasses your understanding. Mishandling it could affect U.S. diplomacy with the Eastern Land," Adams explained seriously.

"Can you bear that responsibility?" he pressed. An intelligent, communicative panda was a treasure beyond measure, drawing interest from researchers worldwide.

If an incident occurred due to the zoo's stubbornness, the fallout would be catastrophic. Public backlash from both nations would be overwhelming, not to mention political repercussions and intervention by animal rights groups.

Realizing the gravity of the situation, the director fell silent.

"Now, we need to verify the child's account of Big White. If confirmed, it means this panda can communicate with humans," Adams continued. "Our priority now is its safety. Future decisions will involve the House and the Eastern Embassy."

"Fine, I'll monitor the situation," the director conceded, casting a regretful glance at Big White before leaving with the zoo staff.

---

Once the Smithsonian Zoo team departed, only George, Adams, the animal protection representatives, and Mrs. Stacy remained in Gwen's room.

"As you mentioned, they've left, so Big White can come in. I trust you weren't lying," Adams said to Gwen.

"Of course, I'll call him in," Gwen replied, opening the window and gesturing to Big White on the fire escape.

"Hey, Big White, they're gone. It's safe now. Come inside; it's dangerous out there."

Seeing only the mayor and the Gwens inside, Big White cautiously approached.

Gwen picked him up as he arrived.

"You really gave us a scare today. If that grumpy old zoo director had a heart attack, I wonder if you'd be held responsible," she teased, holding him close.

With Big White safely inside, everyone relaxed.

"Little fellow, it's nice to finally meet you. I'm the mayor of New York City. If you have any requests, let me know," Adams said, intrigued by Big White's round, adorable appearance. He crouched down to pet him.

Big White dodged Adams' hand, retreating behind Gwen.

"He doesn't like being touched by adult males. I only held him under anesthesia last night," George explained to Adams. "But he seems fine with women and children, perhaps due to his gender."

Adams chuckled. "What a unique panda. I've never seen such an intelligent animal. It reminds me of a legend about a bear during World War II."

"Aside from not speaking, he's very human-like. I've heard they even smoked and drank," Adams mused, standing up to address Gwen.

"You mentioned you have a telepathic connection with him, and only you can communicate with him?"

"Uh..." Gwen hesitated until Big White nudged her.

"Yes, it's a strange feeling. I hear his voice in my mind. At first, I thought it was a prank," she explained, gesturing animatedly as she spoke.

"I understand. I'll look into keeping him in New York, possibly at your home. But I have a few questions for him, okay?" Adams asked, gesturing to Big White.

"Please let me record," an animal protection member requested, preparing to capture the moment. This documentation would support future decisions regarding Big White.
