Chapter 24: Chapter 23: Sheriff Panda
Thanks for review & power stone
"Well, Big White," Gwen said, gently guiding the panda into the room.
Big White scratched behind his ears, eyeing the mayor in his suit. The atmosphere felt unusually serious.
"Don't worry, you're adorable. No one will harm you or lock you up again," Adams assured him, his tone softening as if speaking to a child.
"Gwen mentioned you want to join Sheriff George and become a police officer?"
Big White, unused to such a tone, felt a bit awkward but nodded reluctantly. He preferred the straightforward way George and Peter treated him over the coddling manner of the mayor.
"Why do you want to do this?" Adams inquired, curious.
Big White stepped back, standing upright on his hind legs, and raised his paws. Knowing that Wing Chun was more recognized in America, he demonstrated a Wing Chun stance.
"Kung Fu?" Adams guessed, recognizing it as a form of martial arts from the Eastern Land.
Big White nodded, then leaped into a flying kick, showcasing his panda prowess once more.
Adams furrowed his brow, pondering the display. Impressed by the acrobatics, he still didn't fully grasp the message.
Finally, he turned to Gwen for help.
Gwen, uncertain of Big White's intentions without him speaking, looked away.
Fortunately, George seemed to understand.
"It means he wants to become a police officer to help rescue more victims. The flying kick was what he used to stop the robbers this morning," George explained, recalling the memorable sight of Big White's heroic act.
Seeing their confusion, Big White almost spoke, but George's timely explanation saved him.
"Really?" Adams asked, looking at Big White.
Big White nodded quickly, giving George an appreciative thumbs-up.
"Thank you," George replied, raising his eyebrows in gratitude.
Adams pondered the situation. The disposition of such an extraordinary panda was no easy task. Mishandling could have severe repercussions, but success could bring significant cultural and economic benefits, perhaps even legendary status for New York—and personal accolades for the mayor.
The idea of leaving a historical legacy was appealing not only to those in the Eastern Land but also to many in Western countries.
Especially since the panda's interest lay with the New York police, tied to the city's safety.
Yet, it was risky. New York's criminals wouldn't hesitate to target him despite being a panda.
In Adams' view, the ideal solution was to treat Big White as a city mascot, participating in events to minimize danger.

After saying goodbye to Gwen and Big White, Adams left the bedroom with George and the animal protection representatives.
As New York City's sheriff, George's insights were valuable to Adams. Animal protection groups were also integral to any plans.
In the living room, George poured sake for Adams and the animal protection members, ready to discuss Big White's future.
"Mr. Adams, you're not seriously considering making a panda a police officer at our station, are you?" George asked eagerly.
"Why not? Isn't it cool to have a panda protecting New York City?" Adams replied, sipping his drink.
"It's cool, but dealing with criminals is dangerous. A panda can't use a firearm," George pointed out.
"I agree. Criminals don't just carry knives; they have guns, bombs... A panda can't handle that," the animal protection representative added.
"Don't forget, Big White has high intelligence and can learn quickly."
"I plan to have military and research companies design exclusive weapons for him. With Big White as a promoter, they'd gladly create suitable gear for free," Adams outlined his plan.
"I'll send him to the station once safety is ensured."
"But when he goes on missions, we must ensure both citizen and panda safety. It complicates our work," George argued.
"Take him on less dangerous missions. Consider the benefits of having Big White in the NYPD," Adams suggested, smiling.
"Benefits? I only see trouble," George replied, hands spread in exasperation.
"Think of the economic boost a panda brings. His presence will attract donations, better equipment, faster cars."
"You might even drive a sports car to catch criminals."
"Don't focus solely on him catching criminals; think of the broader advantages," Adams advised.
George's eyes lit up, envisioning a future with tanks and armored vehicles at the station, thanks to Big White's influence.
"Alright, it's tempting. Bringing a panda to work daily is a dream," George's enthusiasm peaked, eager for Big White to don a uniform.
"But don't get too excited. Our discussion is preliminary. The outcome depends on negotiations with Congressman Metz and the Eastern Embassy."
"If they disagree, it's over."
"Oh, and our animal protection ambassador," Adams added, raising a glass to the animal protection group.
"I just need to ensure Big White's safety and freedom. Supervision will follow," the representative said, clinking glasses with Adams as they agreed on Big White's future.
