Chapter 31: Chapter 31 : The prophecy comes true
Clark's abilities were now recognized. A big reason for this was the scarcity of heroes. With governments worldwide collapsed, managing the remaining survivors was incredibly difficult with so few heroes left. So, even reluctantly, they had to let the younger generation, like Clark, take on some tasks.
It was impossible for Superman and Wonder Woman to have Clark with them all the time. Given their speed, Clark, who was just learning to fly, couldn't keep up. Thus, the task of working with Clark fell to Damian and Jonathan.
As for Wally, also part of the younger generation, his unique identity as a speedster meant he would stay in the Fortress of Solitude with Barry the Flash unless absolutely necessary, avoiding risky situations.
"By the way, are you planning on being a superhero dressed like that?"
The younger heroes' tasks were quite simple. They didn't even need to rescue trapped survivors. Their main job was to maintain order among the survivors while transporting them to the shelter. Such a relaxed mission naturally allowed them to focus on other things, like Clark's attire.
Although he'd received combat training on Paradise Island and had been guided by Wonder Woman for a while, Clark was still wearing ordinary clothes. Standing next to Damian, who was in a Bat-suit, and Jonathan, who had his own Superman suit, Clark looked completely out of place.
"The main thing is, I don't have a hero costume. And I changed into new clothes because my old ones were ruined by Black Adam's lightning."
"Hold on."
Jonathan suddenly seemed to remember something. He instantly blurred into a shadow, darting into the depths of the Fortress of Solitude. But in less than two seconds, he was back, grabbing Clark's wrist and pulling him away.
"Forgot you couldn't change in the hall."
In almost the blink of an eye, Damian was the only one left in the hall.
"Really? Even Superman isn't that careless. How could he just..."
Damian grumbled to himself, but he was too lazy to say anything more.
Meanwhile, Jonathan had brought Clark to his room and began rummaging through the closet. Finally, he pulled out a set of red and blue clothes and handed them to Clark.
"This is the birthday present my dad gave me when I was 8 years old. It's a Superman suit made with Kryptonian technology. Aside from the style and size, it's just like the one I'm wearing. It's no different from the Superman suit my dad wears now. How do you like it? Hurry up and try it on!"
Clark nodded, took off his civilian clothes, and put on the battle suit made of Kryptonian technology. Unlike Superman's tight-fitting suit, this one was closer to everyday wear. While it still fit snugly, it didn't reveal body curves.
The pants and top were separate, and the top even had zippers for easy wearing and removal. It was clear that eight-year-old Jonathan, who had no need to hide his identity, probably wore clothes like this daily.
The similarities were the red and blue color scheme, the "S" logo on the chest representing the House of El emblem, and the red cape. What surprised Clark, however, was how perfectly the clothes fit him. It didn't look like something Jonathan had worn; instead, it seemed custom-made for him.
"Don't be surprised. Kryptonian technology. When I was eight, my body shape was a little different from yours. I was thinner than you, but that's okay. As long as the difference is within a certain range, this suit automatically adjusts its size to the wearer. I couldn't even wear this suit until I was ten years old."
Clark nodded, gaining some minor new insights into Kryptonian technology. Then, he left the room with Jonathan and found Damian still waiting in the hall.
"Wow! This suit is much more pristine than when little Jonathan wore it without being rubbed."
Damian and Jonathan had met through their fathers. Initially, they'd fought until their fathers broke it up. At that time, Jonathan had been wearing this very suit.
"Who are you calling a little dog, Damian?"
"I didn't say anything, you admitted it yourself."
Clark smiled. It seemed even superheroes weren't so different from ordinary people. They experienced the same joys, sorrows, anger, and happiness.
Over the next few days, the heroes began working together. Black Canary, who wielded the omnipotent green light, led a group of superheroes to rescue survivors trapped by the infected worldwide.
Superman and Wonder Woman, heroes with exceptional combat abilities, began escorting survivors in batches to Paradise Island and Gotham Forest. Younger heroes like Clark and Damian weren't skilled at management, so they acted as security, maintaining order among the large number of survivors.
Days passed, and two weeks had gone by since the virus outbreak. Clark began helping others as a hero, and he found joy in it. However, one thing worried him: Lex Luthor had disappeared after using his intellect and the Speed Force to predict the future.
Aside from coming to the Fortress of Solitude for regular internal communications maintenance, Luthor seemed to have vanished. Except for Clark, who knew the truth, the other heroes were too busy to notice Luthor's unusual behavior.
Until this day, the heroes gathered in the Fortress of Solitude again, and everyone unanimously reached a decision: to transport most of the current survivors to Gotham Forest at once by cruise ship.
After filling Gotham Forest, it would be fully handed over to Poison Ivy for management. This would allow more superheroes to focus their strength on protecting the other shelter on Paradise Island.
This was a very good plan. Otherwise, if supplies were always transported in small batches, superheroes would have to divide their attention to protect the safety of two routes and constantly clash with Poison Ivy.
But when Lucian arrived at the mission site and saw the familiar port, he suddenly remembered he had seen such a scene when Luthor foresaw the future. It was behind this scene that the invasion of the Kahndaq infected was secretly hiding, ready to strike.
