Marvel: Starting as a Time Criminal, Stealing Powers

Chapter 20: 020 You Annoy Me Again!

Jimmy wanted to say, "If you're going to hit someone, hit him, not me."

But he knew that wasn't possible.

Seeing his teammate get beaten, he decided to save himself from the pain.

Bang! His gun-wielding wrist was grabbed, and the bullet flew past his scalp.

"You trying to die?" Russell looked at Jimmy, who was attempting suicide, and instantly understood the situation.

Surprised, he said, "You're a clone? I didn't expect that. I really underestimated you."

This was the first time he'd seen such a coward. Truly worthy of surviving in the Void.

But it didn't matter.

While it was impossible to loot entries from clones, based on Jimmy's expression, this clone wasn't the original. So even if he looted something, it'd likely be from a regular copy.

Still, that didn't mean the clone was useless.

Russell looked at the dazed clone and suddenly gave him a "very friendly" smile.

"Want to die a little more easily?"

As he spoke, his palm began to glow red.

Sizzle! The scent of burning protein filled the air.

The clone screamed as intense pain shot through his arm.

Two seconds later, his right hand was charred and shattered.

Five seconds later, the right forearm was one step short of needing cumin and chili powder.

Eight seconds later, his elbow was thoroughly charcoal-grilled.

Ten seconds later, Russell and "Jimmy" reached a friendly understanding.

Minutes later...

Russell casually disposed of the clone and fell deep into thought.

He had just extracted a lot of information from Jimmy.

Cassandra's organization had a total of 46 mutants, including:

Juggernaut, Nightcrawler, Pyro, Sabretooth, Lady Deathstrike, Toad, Warpath, Scorpion, Blob, Avalanche, and others.

They were also armed with powerful weapons, plus Cassandra's collection of magical artifacts and potions.

So...

Russell was confused. With a force like that, how the hell did Wolverine and his small squad succeed in Deadpool 3?

He always thought it was exaggerated when he watched the movie.

The electromagnetic truck was never used again. Without it, X-23 and Wolverine wouldn't have counted for much.

Blade and Erica were just flesh and blood—one bullet and they were done.

Gambit... This version was much weaker than the one in the comics.

And Deadpool? His combat ability wasn't anything special.

Russell genuinely couldn't understand how they'd won. As of now, he had no plans to challenge Cassandra's group.

Especially since her psychic powers were ridiculously overpowered.

Even Doctor Strange, with access to the full Sling Ring arsenal, became her trophy. Russell didn't think he could handle that.

Clearly, the Time Pad was the only way out.

With a sigh, he raised his hand and shot the unconscious Siren.

The system prompt echoed in his mind.

[Entry Loot Complete!]

[Ability Acquired: Sonic Wave (Blue-Purple)]

Details:

Sonar: Navigate dark environments by analyzing surrounding vibrations.

Sonic Scream: Emit high-frequency vibrations that disorient and damage targets.

Flight: Achieve subsonic flight using a specialized wingsuit powered by sonic propulsion.

[Would you like to load the ability?]

Russell didn't hesitate—he loaded it immediately.

Sonar wasn't particularly useful.

Flight required a wingsuit, but with the Venom suit, he didn't need one. It could shape-shift and allow flight as needed.

Sonic Scream, however, was a great surprise attack technique—especially in close combat.

And best of all, it didn't involve biting your tongue constantly like Black Canary!

All in all, a worthwhile trip.

Snap! Russell canceled the magic spider web with a finger snap.

If he hadn't wanted to test Spider-Man's combat style combined with magic, he was confident he could've killed the Siren in ten seconds.

Then he turned to the dazed little wolf girl, squatted down, and smiled.

"Hey, kid."

"I just saved your life. Thought of how you're going to repay me?"

Laura stared at him, afraid he was just a hallucination—that he'd disappear the moment she blinked.

"Are you stupid?"

"What kind of drug was that strong?"

Russell pinched her cheek and pulled her eyelids to check her pupils.

Normal.

Just when he was wondering, the little wolf girl suddenly said:

"My name is... Laura."

She spoke slowly but clearly—afraid he wouldn't hear her right.

Russell paused for a second, then nodded firmly.

"I'm Russell."

He didn't want to be called Su Luo in this world, so he transliterated to Russell.

That would be his name in the Marvel Universe from now on.

The old Russell was gone—this was the one climbing to the top.

Laura repeated his name a few times, then looked up seriously.

"I'm not a bad person."

Now he was the one feeling awkward.

"I know. I was just joking earlier."

"By the way, where's your base? I'll take you back."

Trying to change the subject, Russell stood up.

Laura nodded, seemingly figuring something out. Then, without hesitation, she declared:

"I'll be your girlfriend!"

Cough!

Russell almost choked on his own breath.

This girl was way too serious.

"No need to repay a favor like this."

"Comics are full of lies. Don't follow them."

He muttered as he easily lifted her onto his back, completely unaffected by her adamantium-laced body.

Following her directions, they walked for more than two hours before arriving at a hidden base deep in the woods near a spring.

From the outside, it looked like an abandoned house, half-sunken and partially buried into the mountain.

But inside, it was clean. There were several mismatched sofas—obviously scavenged from different places.

The central reservoir was crystal clear.

Deeper in was a cave.

Russell recognized this as Laura's base from Deadpool 3.

But...

"Where are your teammates?"

Laura, now feeling much better, shook her head.

"No teammates. I've been surviving alone in the Void for three years."

So she hadn't met Blade, Gambit, or the others yet...

Russell placed her on the sofa and asked:

"Why haven't you gone to one of the mutant enclaves?"

"Isn't there a more friendly group than Cassandra's?"

Laura shook her head.

"When I first arrived in the Void, that group picked me up."

"It was chaotic. You couldn't tell who was genuinely good or just pretending."

"I went to the black market once, and they used me to lure enemies. After I escaped, I've been alone ever since."

In the Void, true good guys were practically extinct.

Russell sighed but didn't offer empty comfort. She was strong enough to not need it.

"How are you feeling now?"

Russell still had business near the river.

If he could avoid flying in the Void, he would.

If he could avoid opening a portal, even better.

Attracting Elrios again would be a pain—he didn't want another long hike back.

But then he heard Laura's weak voice:

"I feel terrible. I still can't move."

Russell scratched his head.

He couldn't just leave her like this. If someone broke in, all his efforts would be for nothing.

"Then I won't leave just yet."

He picked her up again.

"Where's your room? I'll take you there."

"Over there," Laura said, pointing to the cave.

Russell carried her in.

It was dark and barely lit. About ten centimeters in, there was a tripwire across the floor—an early warning trap.

No problem. With his night vision, Russell walked deeper.

About ten meters in, he found a room carved into the rock, seven or eight square meters in size. A makeshift wall sectioned off a space.

With Spider-sense, he could feel an empty space behind the wall—probably an escape route.

He was about to lay her on a simple mattress...

But suddenly, Laura's arms wrapped tightly around his neck, pulling him down.

Russell landed on top of her.

Spider-Sense didn't activate—no danger.

But... what was this?

Then Laura spoke—not weakly this time:

"Didn't you say I'm your girlfriend?"

"Are you trying to ghost me?"

Russell was speechless.

"It was just a joke..."

"I'm serious!" she snapped.

He could feel her breath on his face. It tickled and stirred something inside.

"I'm sixteen. That's an adult!"

"You're just trying to repay a debt. Really, don't take it that far—"

"I like you. My heart beats faster when I'm with you. You can feel it."

Russell paused, unsure what to say.

The moment from earlier came back to him—the warmth when he woke up today.

Laura clearly sensed his hesitation.

"I can feel your heart racing. Don't pretend you're not into this!"

"So..."

"Do you want a sixteen-year-old girl to stay lonely forever?"

Her breath got closer.

She smelled... really nice.

Russell smiled.

The body always tells the truth.

What was he being awkward for?

This time, he took the initiative and leaned in.

That night, in the darkness...

It was no longer quiet.
