Chapter 108: Marvel 108
After a day, Matt was released from the hospital.
"Are you really alright?" Brian asked, concern evident in his voice.
Matt nodded. "I'm fine. Remember, we awakened heal fast," he said, reassuring his friend.
Brian nodded, though he still looked slightly guilty. "Man, I wish I could awaken now too," said the lanky guy standing beside them. Matt now remembered his name: Liam.
"Maybe it's your time now," Matt replied. "Sooner or later, it'll happen."
Liam nodded but glanced at Matt curiously. "Are you really okay? You seem... different," he said.
"I'm fine," Matt replied firmly, keeping his expression neutral.
Brian interrupted, trying to change the topic. "Let's go check out our ranks!" he said enthusiastically. The events of the previous day had left him shaken; his sudden awakening had led to him accidentally punching Matt far too hard, sending him into the hospital. Now that things had settled, Brian was eager to see his awakening rank.
"Sure," Matt said casually, knowing that getting a Hunter license would ultimately help him in this world.
They all booked a taxi, and as they sat inside, Liam spoke up, "I wonder what your ranks will be."
Matt glanced at him, and decided to awaken him too. This was the first body he had taken, unlike other awakeners in this world who had only just discovered mana and had yet to learn methods like mana breathing or other techniques. Thanks to his Night Monarch powers, Matt already knew exactly how to harness and manipulate mana.
He patted Liam on the back casually, using the gesture to secretly send a thread of mana into his friend's body. The mana latched onto Liam's system, subtly awakening his innate potential and ensuring his abilities would activate more easily.
They reached their destination, and after paying the fare, they stepped out. As they entered the Awakener Association, Liam's face lit up with nervous excitement. "Guys, I think I awakened too!" he exclaimed, earning curious glances from Brian and Matt.
"Seriously?" Brian asked, his expression brightening as well.
Liam nodded eagerly. "Yeah, it feels... weird, but also powerful."
The group moved through the building to where testing was conducted. After a short wait, Liam's turn came first. As the results displayed on the screen, the examiner raised an eyebrow in surprise.
"Congratulations, you're at the peak of A-rank," the examiner announced.
Liam's jaw dropped. "Peak A-rank? Are you serious?" he stammered, his voice filled with awe.
Brian and Matt exchanged impressed glances. "That's huge, man," Brian said, clapping Liam on the shoulder.
Matt remained quiet, a faint smirk on his face. He knew Liam's success was no coincidence—it was the boost he had subtly given. He was curious to see how his own rank would compare when it was his turn.
'though I already Know its S rank' he mumbled , as he want to see how the machine in this world works.
Next was Brian's turn. As his result came up on the screen, the examiner announced, "A rank."
Brian laughed and looked over at Liam. "Looks like we're both A-rankers!" he said, his tone filled with excitement. Liam nodded, equally thrilled by their results.
"Your turn, buddy," Liam said, grinning. Brian joined in, giving Matt an encouraging pat on the back as the receptionist called his name.
"Please follow me," the receptionist said, gesturing for Matt to enter the testing chamber.
He stepped inside, the massive glass orb sitting prominently in the center of the room. It seemed to radiate an aura of energy, faintly humming as if alive.
"Just place your hand on it and focus on infusing your power," the receptionist instructed.
Matt nodded, stepping forward. As he placed his hand on the orb, he closed his eyes and concentrated. Almost instantly, the orb began to glow brightly, and a sudden surge of golden light filled the room.
The examiner stared at the readings, her face pale with disbelief. "You're… S-rank?" she stuttered, unable to fully grasp the results.
Matt sighed inwardly. Being S-rank in the United States—a country known for having the most S-rank hunters—was bound to draw attention. And attention was the last thing he needed right now.
"Keep it hidden," Matt said, his tone calm but firm.
The receptionist hesitated. "I-I can't do that…" she began, but before she could finish, Matt placed his hand on hers.
Using the Organic Domination power granted by Azi-Dhakha, he subtly manipulated her memory and changed the device's record. In mere moments, the display shifted.
"You're A-rank," she said, her tone steady but her eyes slightly glazed over as Matt nodded.
"Thanks," he said as he turned to leave.
"Here's your license," she said, handing him the small card. "You're really impressive," she added, smiling as he exited the room.
Once he was gone, another examiner entered to check the machine. As they reviewed the orb, confusion filled their face. "Something's off… The system flagged a surge we've never seen before. We may need to recalibrate this."
Unaware of what truly transpired, they began running diagnostics, oblivious to the fact that Matt had altered the outcome entirely.
Matt walked out of the testing room and rejoined his two friends, Brian and Liam, who were both waiting eagerly.
"How'd it go?" Brian asked, grinning widely.
Matt simply nodded, showing his newly issued Hunter license. "A-rank," he said casually, keeping his true result hidden.
Brian and Liam both cheered, clapping him on the back. "Man, we're all A-rankers now. That's awesome!" Brian exclaimed.
Matt, however, was more interested in learning about their Traits. Quietly, he focused and scanned them using his abilities.
[Red Tyrant] (A-Mid Rank)
Type: Strength
Description: A warrior-focused trait that enhances physical power, endurance, and raw combat ability.
[Spirit Summoner] (A-Peak Rank)
Type: Summoning
Description: Allows the summoning of elemental spirits, specializing in ranged and supportive attacks.
Brian's Trait clearly set him on the path of a physical powerhouse, destined to be a front-line warrior. Meanwhile, Liam's Trait leaned heavily into magic, making him a capable summoner and ranged attacker.
'So, Brian's gonna be smashing things up close, and Liam's gonna be raining magic from a distance,' Matt thought, already planning how to best utilize their strengths if the need arose.
"Let's grab something to eat and celebrate our awakenings!" Liam suggested, his excitement bubbling over.
"Yeah, we deserve it," Brian said, flexing his arms proudly.
Matt smirked and nodded, feeling the camaraderie between the three of them. "Sounds good. Let's go."
