Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Three-Headed Dog?
To be honest, Noah himself felt rather conflicted.
It was his own decision not to get involved in Harry's affairs, yet, in the end, it was also his own decision to join in.
Was he schizophrenic or something?
However, after thinking about it for a long time, Noah came to two conclusions. The first was that he was simply the kind of person who had a talent for courting death and enjoyed throwing himself into such situations.
Think about it—how often does one get the chance to be in this world, knowing in advance whether a situation is dangerous or not?
It would be difficult for anyone to restrain themselves from getting involved, wouldn't it?
Of course, if the danger level was too high or the risks were overwhelming, then only a fool would willingly participate.
The second reason, which Noah found particularly compelling, was that he was doing this to deal with Dumbledore.
That's right, it was all about Dumbledore. His "Mage Alliance" still hadn't recruited any Slytherin members, which did not meet the old wizard's expectations at all!
So, Noah figured that by helping Harry in this incident, he could shift Dumbledore's focus. Maybe—just maybe—the headmaster would overlook the fact that they had yet to bring in a Slytherin.
Of course, even if he didn't forget, helping Harry take care of Voldemort should be more than enough to compensate, right?
If Dumbledore dared to say it wasn't, Noah would definitely have some words for him.
"Believe it or not, I believe it anyway!"
After Noah shared his thoughts with Evan and the others, they immediately supported him.
Indeed, they still hadn't found a suitable Slytherin member, which was a major issue. But if they helped Harry deal with Voldemort, that might change everything.
"Sorry, everyone, it's my fault," Kenn admitted guiltily, since he was in charge of recruiting from Slytherin.
But for various reasons, he had been unable to convince anyone to join. Slytherin's internal situation was far more complicated than he had expected, and Kenn had been blaming himself for his lack of progress.
Now, however, there seemed to be a turning point, so he was naturally on board. Plus, after hearing Noah's analysis, he didn't think this mission would be as dangerous as they'd initially feared.
After their afternoon classes, Noah and the others still went to the Room of Requirement to train after dinner.
But this time, they didn't exhaust their magic as they usually did—they had more important matters to take care of that night.
When the moon was high at midnight, they set off.
Harry and Ron were already waiting in the forbidden corridor on the third floor. The two of them clearly thought Noah and the others had taken too long, but they didn't dare voice their complaints.
"Are you ready?" Noah asked in a low voice, glancing at them.
"Don't worry, Noah, everything is ready. I had Ron pass a message to Professor McGonagall. In about half an hour, she'll find out what's happening," Harry whispered back.
Now was not the time to be making noise. Hogwarts had strict rules against students wandering the castle at night, and if a professor—or worse, Filch—caught them, they'd be in serious trouble.
"Good. Let's go."
Noah nodded and took the lead down the corridor. In the darkness, Hogwarts had a particularly eerie atmosphere. Shadows flickered from the torches on the walls, and ghosts floated by from time to time, making the place even more unsettling.
Noah thought this would be the perfect setting for a horror movie!
No special effects needed—just film everything as it was, add some creepy music, and that would be enough!
Of course, that was just a passing thought. He had no idea if cameras could even capture ghosts, and convincing Hogwarts to allow a film crew inside? Impossible.
"Open the door."
When they reached the door Dumbledore had specifically warned students to stay away from, Noah pulled out his wand and muttered, "Alohomora."
The lock clicked open effortlessly.
Noah felt no sense of accomplishment at all. Instead, he couldn't help but complain internally.
Seriously? That's it?
If they had really wanted to keep something secure, wouldn't they have at least placed some defensive enchantments on the door?
Clearly, this was meant for Harry's story arc!
If they had properly locked it, Harry might not have been able to get through at all!
"Whoa! That dog is huge!"
The moment they stepped inside, they saw the massive three-headed dog lying in the middle of the room, snoring heavily. Evan couldn't help but exclaim. It was clear he wasn't particularly fond of the beast.
Not that he was alone in that opinion—except for Harry and Ron, no one seemed particularly scared of the creature.
"It's massive, yeah, but it also stinks!" Lance grimaced. "I swear, its saliva could suffocate sewer rats!"
"Don't be ridiculous," Kenn scoffed, frowning. "Sewer rats can handle worse smells than this. Don't exaggerate."
"I don't know about this…"
Harry was starting to have second thoughts. These guys didn't seem to take the three-headed dog seriously at all.
Ron, meanwhile, was incredibly tense. His eyes were locked on the sleeping beast, praying it wouldn't wake up.
"You don't need to worry, Harry. It's asleep now, and we can make sure it stays that way. Even if it does wake up, we have plenty of ways to handle it." Noah grinned confidently.
"The three-headed dog is classified as a 'Beast' in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," Lance added casually. "There are several ways to deal with it. For example, using hybrid beast oil, but the ingredients for that are hard to come by, and the potion itself takes time to brew."
"Another method is using a beehive bomb," Ernie continued. "You can probably find those in Knockturn Alley, but they're expensive."
"The last option is high-intensity attack magic," Hermione concluded. "Noah can handle that. But honestly, since it's already asleep, all we really need to do is reinforce its drowsiness, and we'll be fine."
Harry and Ron stared at the group, utterly dumbfounded.
These guys… they were casually listing ways to deal with a terrifying magical beast, explaining everything in detail as if it were basic knowledge!
Suddenly, Harry and Ron regretted asking them for help.
This wasn't just a rescue mission anymore—this was a direct blow to their confidence!
What kind of monsters are these guys?!
They had actually studied books on magical creatures in advance?!
Were they planning to become professional beast hunters? Or exorcists?!
